I haven't seen a post about this yet...

I get UHD, anybody else? Can't wait for Sept. 24! I'm gonna host a FireflyHD partay!

This has to bode well for the franchise's future.

One thing that really intrigues me about this is the fact that it's going to be shown on UHD. That's Universal High Definition.

This has to mean that Universal is still very much aware of this franchise. I'm thinkin' we will rise again!

So they've got rights to air it?

May not be smart, and it may not please you, but you're definitely gonna see what I have to say.

Universal is part of the same company that runs SciFi Channel, so yes. I have no idea whether they had to make some special arrangement with the Nameless Network to run them in High Def, though.

I wonder if it'll get a HD-DVD release, a new HD box set will look mighty shiny next to Serenity on HD-DVD.

I think that's very likely -- but there's a catch. If it's released by Fox, it'll be Blu-Ray (the BDM is on HD-DVD).

However, it looks like this conversion is being done by Universal, so maybe they'll be the ones to release it. That would eliminate the format conflict and Browncoats could choose an HD-DVD player.

I for one am not planning to buy a one-format player, unless and until one of the two formats is a clear winner. But I might change my tune if BOTH the series and BDM were available on HD-DVD.

My boss has an HD DVD player and we watched part of Serenity on it when he had it at work. The clarity, the colors, the CG, the detail was simply AMAZING.

Seems like Fox is throwing a lot of effort behind a show it canceled after 11 episodes. No doubt they've realized their mistake but as much as I'd really love to see Firefly back on the air, I'd really hate it if it was Fox bringing it back.

I'd rather see it on sci-fi which has proven (look at their popular Friday lineup!) that they can run popular programming like this and keep it going via good marketing and placement.

Blue-ray - don't even bother. That is going to go the way of old beta machines before it even gets too far off the ground.

There's been no confirmation yet that it is being released on either HD DVD or BluRay yet, at the moment all we know is it is being shown on a HD TV channel.

Fox only supports BluRay whereas Universal only supports HD DVD so it does seem likely that unless Universal bought the rights wholesale to Firefly (which hasn't been said anywhere), any HD release on the series will be on BluRay. Which means if you want it them both on disk, you need two machines.

Sigh.

Yeah.

I just cannot believe the idiocy of these consumer electronics companies who couldn't get together on a single standard. It's Beta vs. VHS all over again, only this time the public will remember and simply opt for none of the above until the dust settles -- by which time neither[\i] format may be viable.

My only concern will be the fact that FireFly was shot on 35mm film and it is being digitized to 1080i high definition, which is not the same as being captured with a HD camera. It will look great on an HDTV, I am sure, but it will not look stunning, as HD video looks on an HDTV when captured with an HD camera...
