I'm currently working on a game module (fan based - not official) for Neverwinter Nights (a role-playing video game) based on the Firefly 'verse. I'd include all of our favorite characters (crew and villains alike) as well as toss in a few other Joss-verse characters. Since there are constraints to what I can build, Serenity herself will have to be a village since there isn't currently an option for building spaceships or futuristic technology at all.

I've just started the module so it will most likely be a while before the module is finished. Does anyone here own Neverwinter Nights and would they be interested in play-testing or playing the module when it's finished?

I've actually got a couple of modules planned. The first would involve River's rescue (rewriting Firefly history a bit to include a PC in the rescue with Simon). The second would involve Badger and some employment opportunities. Saffron and Niska may also make appearances (if not in the 2nd module, in future modules). Let me know. I'd love to get feedback from the Browncoats on this project.

I've also got the game, and it sounds great! I haven't played recently because I haven't seen anything worth playing. Keep us up to date on the status, and I would love to test it for you.

I'll test too. I've been through a couple times as different classes. We've also done a little mod-ing around here, but nothing that ever got distributed.

I would suggest making Serenity an indoor tileset. Many of the indoor castle sets look much closer to the inside of a ship than any of the outdoor sets.

I actually thought about using the sewer tileset to create Serenity since it's mostly metal and grates. I'll have to re-think some things and sketch out the layout. Does anyone know if there's a blueprint of the Serenity layout anywhere?

I'm going to make use of the chinese translations that I've seen for some of the dialogue. I'm trying to decide if I want to make options for romances between PCs and NPCs. But if I did that, I'd want to offer options...it might be too complicated for my first module. Even though it's my first module, I want it to be a fairly high quality piece. I've played enough modules that I didn't like to want to make mine not just a great first module but a great module, period. Does anyone have opinions on the romances angle? I'd definitely say that Wash and Zoe wouldn't be romantic options. They're married and I couldn't find it in my heart to break up the one happily involved couple in Joss-dom. Jury's out on this one. You guys let me know if it's interesting or not.

Thanks for all of the feedback so far! I'm really excited about this. In fact, I got out of bed last night around 2:00 a.m. and was laying out plot points and items that I'd want to include. I'm such a geek...

Don't squat with your spurs on.

A friend just left NWN with me. I don't know if it will work on my antiquated machine or how long it would take me to get to speed. IF I can over come those obstacles, I'd be interesed. Is there a module for a boat? Maybe you could make Serenity a sailing ship.

Thanks, Radegund & SergeantX! These are perfect. You rock!

I'm still building areas and NPCs (and probably will be for awhile). I've briefly sketched out the plot for the first module with occasional details. Once I get the areas and NPCs completely built, I'll start working on the dialogue. The emphasis will be on role-playing but I'll make a concerted effort to balance that out with plenty of bad guys to kill. I know I like role-playing but I also appreciate the ability to cause massive damage.

I'll keep everyone updated as I progress. Thanks again for the support and feedback.

Wow - I only just found this (and only just registered with the site). Too bad it seems horribly out of date! At any rate, I've been toying with the idea myself for a while, as marketing-the-show ploy, of course :)

I'm a very experienced DM, NWN builder, and NWN custom content user. If the D20 modern system is up to it (I'm not sure if it is yet), we could really make something amazing.

A module isn't really necessary, per se - what is needed is a DM-run CAMPAIGN. I run a regular D&D group each week, and I never really need to script or such - just good storylines and believable areas. Anybody could do it!

Interested, anyone?

- Forrestwolf (also name on NWN)

Actually with the Aurora Toolset you should be able to build a spacehips interior if you have the time. The toolset is extremly powerful and I have seen programmers use it to create things from scratch. I think you have to be a very good programmer to that stuff but it isn't impossible. I'd look up other people's projects using the toolset and if they have something to what you want ask them ow they did it.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Well, I'm already looking into it. I downloaded some "Hak Paks" - NWN custom content packages - with these things in them:

1) modern "Complex" interior - will work for Serenity corridors and the cargo bay
2) modern "City" exterior - good for Core worlds like Ariel
3) Oriental interior - WOW! - this will be a great set for Serenity sleeping areas
4) Oriental exterior - good for some buildings like the magistrate's building in Jayne's Paradise
5) exterior rustic "drylands" - great for the wild west exteriors

That's the areas, for now. It may be enough, though I'd like to find some modern INTERIORS other than the Complex for things like the med-bay.

I've also got these items/people I'm looking into:

1) Mexican western-style clothing, some fancy late 19th century clothing, 3 musketeer hats ("Nice hat!" is a necessity, and these are the only ones I've got), dresses, Asian-style dresses.

2) Guns - lots o' guns. This won't be a problem, even though NWN is supposed to be medieval :)

3) modern placeables - should be very useful. I'd like to reskin the Coke can into a Blue Sun can, as well as some other reskins.

4) nifty items like umbrellas (one with a chinese dragon!), fans, etc.

5) various faces that may help flesh out the Firefly theme.

I'm going to be trying to put it all together, and see what the end result LOOKS like. I'll also try adding a few new textures, though I'm not that experienced at that sort of thing.

Afterwards, I'll post a few screenshots so people can comment. The plan would be for me or someone else to run a regular roleplaying session using the NWN client and the Firefly Hak Pak I'll put together! We'll see how far I get :)

The haks are all assembled, and I'm making nifty screenshots. Check out the first in the images section! I'll get back to hashing out the T20 (Traveller) rules in NWN...

The plan is to run a campaign, and allow others to do the same - it won't be a MODULE per-se, but rather a DM-run soundstage - no single-player, just multiplayer roleplaying.

I just stared a Yahoo group for the development project, and sent out some invites. If you'd like to join up, just let me know your email! You're welcome to contact me (kline at researchsupport.com) as well.

I'll be running beta-test games at the upcoming Neverwinter Nights convention, NWCon - I need to get things ready by April 16, as a result!

Bioware will even mention it in their weekly news blurb, and it will be a "Highlight Game" for the convention...gulp!

Any help greatly appreciated - haks are just about ready to post, so people should be able to get actual content from me VERY SOON.

Thanks,
Forrestwolf

Offical mention! The Bioware (makers of Neverwinternights) web site features NWCon - the online NWN gaming convention about to happen on April 16-18 - and the organizer of NWCon mentions the NWN Firefly game we're going to run!

Here's the quote (link http://forums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html?topic=338004&forum=41):

---
NWCon II is coming Friday 4/16 thru Sunday 4/18, with a kickoff extravaganza on the evening of Thursday, 4/15!
...snip...
And winning the "stretch-the-engine-to-the-limit" award is Forrestwolf, who is planning to run a demo session based on the Firefly "sci-fi meets the wild west" universe.

Shiny!

Now I'm worried I'll get too many players...

Also, I've posted the base module and hak paks for download on NWVault - they should be available tomorrow (Thursday) - look for things by Forrestwolf. The module IS NOT solo - it'll need a DM/referee to bring it to life - and it's really just an alpha version for development.

Yay! The whole point of Firefly NWN was to get more Firefly coverage in a different venue, and it seems to be working.

Hey, I am still around. I'm just getting over being extremely ill and am starting to continue work on my firefly modules. I'm thrilled to see that someone else has been working on modules for NWN as well. It sounds like an awesome module, Forrestwolf. I can't wait to see it!

Now that I'm getting back up to speed, I'll post updates as I get things completed.

Glad to see you - I'd hoped you'd come back! It was your post that got me energized in the first place.

The base module and haks are now available for download at:

http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/modules/data/1080769905000.shtml

The module isn't a single-player module - it's a development system. If you want, and it's not too much trouble considering how much you've already done, you might consider exporting your areas and work, and importing them into my base module. You'll end up with all the haks and such, and can actually have Serenity as a modern (metal decking, modern electronics, etc.) interior, as well as lots of fun Western-style drylands and Oriental tilesets.

That's the idea - to let other people in the community create and run their OWN NWN campaigns on an ongoing basis.

This sounds awesome! When I get home, I'll download the module and the haks! Before I became sick in September, I had built several areas on Persephone and created a few of the NPC characters with conversations and quests. I have story outlines with quests and characters for 2 modules so far. The Hordes of the Underdark Expansion has multiple henchmen so I hope to create a single player (and possibly multiplayer) module that allows the Firefly crew NPCs to be controlled by the player. I've got lots of ideas and some concrete things done. Once I take an indepth look at what you have done, I may find that the hard things are already done. I will post more later tonight or tomorrow. Yay! I'm really looking forward to seeing your work!

Well, tonight's the big night...at 9 pm Eastern US time, I'll be running the first-ever Alpha test of a Firefly-based Neverwinter Nights game.

I don't want to give it all away, but the characters - crew and passengers of a Firefly-class transport vessel - will land on Higgen's Moon to pick up cargo near Canton. Despite the fact that it should be a straightforward smuggling operation, things will of course go wrong. Strangers in the night, a statue of a lost hero and the rescue of a new one - things will never be the same for Canton.

If the lack of sleep doesn't get me (I've been pulling very late nights finishing this), it's going to be goram shiny. I'll be taking screenshots for posting an image, and people are welcome to check us out at www.neverwinterconnections.com.
