SIRIUS

Hi all!

I'm new here, well not really new since I joined the browncoat ranks sometime ago and I created an account but never used it so this is my first post on this site but not other Firefly devoted sites. I have been reading an article-topic about if Jayne is a bad guy or not and it got me thinking when someone mentioned a quote Joss made "In the 'verse, the good guys don't wear hats." So....my question is....dya think that Joss already has some of the storyline mapped out and written down somewhere and is just waiting for a venue to display his artwork.

Keep flying all and stay shiny!

"Do you know what the chain of command is here? It's the chain I go get and beat you with to show you who's in rutten command."

"We're still flying"
"That's not much"
"It's enough"

Welcome to the board! And i think he has a general idea of where he thinks it might go, but i think the 'verse really would probably simply unfold by itself if put in the form of a series or something long-term.

Basically, Joss has the 'verse in his head, and i think it'll probably play out with twists and turns, and their might be stuff that he didn't suspect when he first started out. It'd spring to life so to speak.

And again welcome. If FollowMall hasn't already gotten you your Browncoat, then he'll do so shortly, well probably within 24 hours at least.

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

given how far ahead he plants ideas and clues in quite a few of his creations I'd say yes, but then there's also the whole going with the creative flow that Joss is so in tune with!

eg: (point1) BtVS in "Dopelgangland" - after Willow meets her 'evil twin' from the alternate reality she is somewhat disturbed to note that her 'alternate-self' is "a bit gay"... much, much later (s4?) she starts a relationship with Tara!

eg: (point 2) Spike was meant to come, do his thing, and go - never to be heard of again - BUT there was such a special presence that Joss had to work with the character again and again and allow the character to grow!

There's is a definite story we have been set up for but have not yet heard, but had the story continued it would have evolved for sure!

Love that you joined us! - Magdalena x x

P.S. Just remembered a comment Joss made about how "we're not supposed to like Jayne - but as we get to know him, the audience starts to love him!"... Shiney!

Oops, sorry. Knew that, just screwed up. And yes, we hand out browncoats to first time posters 'round here. And therefore you should get a browncoat at some point.

If you read the interview, with Whedon in the visual companion, he as much as says that he had a general storyline for the run of the show, but hadn't filled in the details. Basically, I think he knows where it ends up, and probably a number of interesting points along the way, but hasn't, for example, written the third season finale.

When Firefly was cancelled, he said that one of the things he learned was "Don't tell your cast that the show is going to last seven seasons until you get to season seven" (or something similar), so it seems pretty clear that he was looking at a seven year story arc (like BtVS).

I have the feeling that he said 7 seasons because that's how long a lot of shows go lately.

I'm sure he had big plans for the show. He had something in mind for Book, I'm sure. And I think we've only scratched the surface on River. Definitely things we don't know about Inara. He left it wide open for Niska to show up again. And he probably wants to address Mal's religion some time.

This would be why I want more Firefly! Argh...

Seven seasons is not any kind of "industry standard." I think he said (tentatively) seven because that would give him long enough to tell most of the stories he wanted.

Again, as I've said, read the Whedon interviews in the Official Visual Companion and you get a pretty good (if vague) idea of a lot of what he wanted to do.

BLINKER

One of the biggest changes of plan is that Jayne was meant to be merely a dumb, unlikable, traitorous thug who really does get flushed out the airlock in "Ariel." This was even foreshadowed on the season premiere of "Buffy," of all places, with a tombstone in the background that read "ARIEL JANE." Of course, Joss ended up being so impressed with what Adam Baldwin brought to the role that he couldn't go through with it.

So basically, there was stuff mapped out in advance, but it was never set in stone. Uh, unless you count the tombstone.

On the main screen near the top of the page is a string of links. Near the right is 'MY FIREFLY' click that and you can add things to your profile including your sig, a tagline - which shows up by your name, and some personal information if you want to put it in there and you can choose from a selection of premade avatars.
