JAMIECHAMBERS

Good morning, folks!

Margaret Weis Productions is here at the Origins Games Expo here in Columbus, Ohio -- one of the largest and most important shows in the hobby games industry. It is also the home of the Origins Awards, where the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design recognizes excellence and awards a "Callie" to the winning games.

I'm excited and pleased to report that last night the Serenity Role Playing Game received the Gamer's Choice Award for Best Role Playing Game in the past year! Once again the Browncoats have proved to be the most active and involved group of fans, winning the day against wildly popular properties such as World of Warcraft.

There are lots of people to thank for the creation of the Serenity Role Playing Game itself. I had an amazing team of developers and playtesters who contributed the design and evolution of the game. You know who you are, and I thank you for helping me create the now-award-winning Big Damn Game. And thanks of course to Susan "11th Hour" Tomb for making the book so beautiful inside and out!

I want to thank Joss Whedon for creating a 'Verse so filled with flavor and storytelling potential that it made my job seem easy. Firefly and Serenity are amazing accomplishments, and it was a true pleasure to create a game that allows the fans to create their own ships, crews, and tales of adventure out in the black.

I absoutely must thank my dear friend Margaret Weis. She created a new company bearing her name, and chose me to not only run her business on a day-to-day basis, but to design and write the very first product. Her guidance, friendship, and support mean to the world to me.

I have to thank my beautiful and amazing wife, Renae. She continually makes sacrifices to let me live out my dreams, and became a "game industry widow" for many months while I worked on making the Serenity RPG all it could be.

Finally, I wish to thank Browncoats everywhere for maintaining their enthusiasm and support for all things Firefly and Serenity, for embracing the Serenity Role Playing Game, and for spreading the word to them that need it told.

** Jamie

Congratulations! There does seem to be a bit of magic hovering around this franchise. Glad you could benefit.

As someone who has never played (or been particularly interested in playing) an RPG, yet bought and enjoyed your Firefly RPG, I'd like to thank you for helping flesh out the 'verse. There's a real thirst out here for more stories from these characters. Perhaps your win will nudge the powers that be in the right direction.

Jamie already emailed the news to me... but just had to say it's so cool that our lil' ol' RPG won this award. It means that the Serenity RPG has brought a lot of enjoyment to fans. And, perhaps with this award, more attention will be drawn to the RPG and people unfamiliar with Serenity will want to find out more about the 'verse. It could happen!

We just got approval from Univeral yesterday on the cover art... YAY!

I'd love to share the design with y'all, but need to check with Jamie first about when it's okay to officially do that.

I've already handed over the interior page "arty" graphic stuff, and Jamie is working on the layout for all the text. The putting together of the novel is definitely in the home stretch now. After that, there's the approval process with Universal of course... so let's hope that moves along without too many bumps.

It's gettin' there... thanks for askin'.

I'm going away for the weekend, and in Springfield, MO where I go thru is my son -in -law's and my favorite comic store. We always stop on the way thru and hold up the rest of the trip because it's hard for us to leave.

I am going to buy the Serenity RPG this time when I go. I can't wait to get it!

Oh, and the guy behind the counter... ( he's always there!) is a Browncoat.. so it's always fun.
