Firefly is now 15th on the Best Sellers list on Amazon, and Serenity is now 35th. I find this troubling. Why is it? Did we all spend ourselves out on Serenity Day? It seems strange, since the vast majority of the DVDs bought on Serenity Day and after were by Browncoats, and some friends, why are they now so low? Of course, you guys are all probably used to that by now, but to me, i find it disturbingly low. Firefly had been in the top ten for like 3 months or something, and Serenity was 23rd or so before Serenity Day.

And, what happens now? I've heard talk of "Serenity Summer" but what does that entail? What's the next move for us Browncoats?

I aim to misbehave.

Personnaly, I don't 15th on the Amazon best sellers list is low for a tv show that had 1 season and was canceled forever ago.

But one must also answer, what is above them? That may be an indicator - Are the things above new releases of blocknusters?

Actually, i never thought of that, and looking at it, they are mostly new releases.

And i hadn't looked back in the history for a while, in fact, we're doing okay (average). But why did Firefly go down so much? It had been number 8 or 9 for like a month straight, and then it dropped to 15. Idk, it's just the drop below what it was before. And Serenity is still doing better than it was, but will it hold?

Most important part of this though is: what now? We had Serenity Day, it was a big success (i think, don't have sales numbers but we definitely spiked) and that's great. But what now?

I aim to misbehave.

Not only new releases, but also some deep discounts on some of them.

We were at #2 on the 23rd, with nothing between us and #1 except Suryiana, and suddenly, Suryiana goes on sale for $9.99. Good marketing move on Amazon's part. They have to show the distributors that they can effectively sell and market.

Oh, and I would bet their sales peeps KNEW about Serenity Day. That's their job, and that's why we got that great sale price early on the 23rd.

What was the sale price? I missed it.

I do think that the current price is a deterrent. Having bought several Firefly sets for $19.99 in the past colors one's feelings about buying them for $34.99, which is what they were last I checked.

Cool graphic PhoenixRose

The numbers reflect just what they are suposed to. The spike is from what the fans were able to accomplish and to show theres still a market for this property. We are who brought the sales up in the first place.

Now there are plenty of unclaimed browncoats still out there. Their numbers are still finding their way to the verse so things should level out. The way I see it. Folks don't buy things sight-unseen. The BDM and BDS have to be rented or watched at a friends house before someone will fall in love with the show and buy it on their own. June 23 was a success, but we can't expect sales to stay on top when new unseen movies are coming out all the time.

"serenity Summer" is not over. Its just gotten back to normal until next go around.

see ya,Z

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the point of "Serenity Day" to buy DVDs in actual stores and not so much via online services like Amazon?

I think the vast majority avoided online stores this time because "empty the shelves" was much more fun.

What happened? He see your face?

Right On ZZ...

We did what we were supposed to do....

Serenity has definitely not had a normal sales life cycle that you would typically see. The sales run it had was very long.... making its money in DVD sales not the Box Office.

The sales spike we created on the 23rd was just that, a spike ...to hopefully make the movie exec.s take notice of an abnormal increase... and of course, affect the overall bottomline. (mo money, mo money, etc.)

And buying from stores was not THE point. I and others did however make a point that we should not ALL focus on the online stores, but give some love to local stores which, in turn, would create more BUZZ. The Charity screenings has created a huge amount of Buzz and gave a nice PR boost to our and equality Now's cause. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. (EDIT: Arrrr! with, of course, realistic business expectations)

So... everybody... Serenity Day was the beginning of the an entire summer-filled campainge of browncoat recruitment and sales. go for it....

Right-on fellow browncoat. The entertainment execs should sit up and take notice.
Lets see, a second Serenity movie, well lets do the math. Add up all the loyal fans that have seen the tv show (when it aired)+ the movie Serenity at the theater + Serenity on dvd + the Firefly series on dvd = well a BDA (big damn amount). This number is guaranteed to hit the theaters a second time for a sequel. Thats not counting on all the converts they will bring to the movie house with them. That should mean something.
