Joss says 'thanks'
Quote:

June 25 2006
The Claw of Doom. It's coming. And it can't be stopped. But anyway...

Sorry I don't have a link, and about that whole claw mislead -- the claw isn't actually coming, it's resting peacefully. (The Beak of Waking Up Really Cranky is, however, on the move.)

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, yes I AM interested in meeting, your web-photos are pretty intoxicating, so E-mail me at VikingPrincess3.org and please make sure absolutely no one finds out about... ah, which site is this? Hmmm. 'Kay. Uh, that was a joke, like the claw thing. This is the "Thank you" message. I got it now.

Thank you. All. First, for all your birthday wishes, which meant a lot to my spectacularly old self. (Special kudos to the person who pointed out that I am now old enough to order a drink twice over, as I have quoted that extensively, and also had more drinks.) I had a very nice birthday and feel terribly well-preserved, 'cept for that damn knee. I saw my friends and destroyed my enemies, so it was a mellow day. And all your wishes were read and appreciated.

But the second "Thank You" is obviously for the screenings, and everyone's involvement. Apparantly there is only One True B!x and we should stop worshipping false B!x's (I had a golden B!x calf that was SO cute, but it's e-bay bound). What an achievement. I wish I could have been at one, but destroying my enemies is time-consuming (and where the @#$% do I hide Goddard's body? He's ENORMOUS!). I got an E-mail from Jessica Neuwirth, who was of course thrilled and grateful for the whole thing. It's by your efforts that my movie has become inexorably linked to such a vital, under-recognized cause, and so y'all should be frantically patting yourselves on the backs. Thank you. It matters. Plus, fun!

I have lurked, but I've restrained myself from yakkin' 'cause I didn't feel right about it while the official, no-really-I-mean-it-this-time first draft of Wonder Woman was unfinished. But I'm posting now. Hmmm, what could that mean?

Well, I gotta go. Or, sit right here but type other stuff. Many many thanks, or as Morena Baccarin would say, "Huh?"

Yours Gratefully, VikingPrincess3.

I agree with you, b!X. And I also think -- noting that he posted so soon after the event and reading between the lines -- that he is geniunely surprised at how well this event did and truly grateful. Think about it -- it will probably be in the $70-$80k range by the time it's all tallied. That is ALOT of money, by any standard. Far higher than I had originally estimated.

I am proud to have been a part of it. Thanks, b!X, for leading the way.

Ivy:
Our Joss enjoys the obscure jokes, for instance The One True B!x is a guy (girl?) who uploaded a lot of photos in one of the Whedonesque threads:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/cantstoptheserenity/pool/
and evidently the B!x name caught Joss' attention while he was lovin' the photos....

I think he couldn't attend the screening because:
1. finishing 'Wonder Woman' script
2. he has an actual family who planned a party
3. engaged in the business of drinking twice as much as usual and trying to dispose of Drew Goddard's remains
(who was one of the writers on Buffy & Angel)

was there anything else?
don't ask me to explain the claw, because I'm clueless about claws....

Actually, TheOneTrueB!x was the conciever, organizer and driving force of the SerenityNow/EqualityNow movement. Joss was recognizing his excellence!

As for the rest, Joss probably tried to get tickets to the LA showing but it was sold out.
(That's a joke! I'm sure if he'd wanted a ticket, they could have put him in a folding chair in the back of the last aisle.)

Thanks for the clarification.

It was really the "destroying his enemies" thing that I didn't get. (And I didn't know who Drew Goddard was....is Joss now mad at him?)

Usually I can handle (and sorta follow) his obscure and wry humor....but this was totally over my head.

I didn't know if anything he said was at all relavant to the future (or lack thereof) of the Firefly 'verse.

mad at Drew Goddard? Perish the thought...
one could more easily imagine being mad at puppies.
Isn't he the Drew that wrote 'Dirty Girls'? One of the truly great episodes from Buffy's S7 which introduced Nathan Fillion's character AND showed us Faith fighting a Vulcan (one of the great moments in the History of TV!)?

Anyway, see? I didn't understand my own self:

I love reading posts of Jossy-goodness. Shiny! Joss-posts always give me something to giggle about. I do have a question though about the Morena "huh" reference, I seem to recall reading something about her not appropriately responding sometime when a thanks was in order but I can't remember any specifics. Can anyone jog my memory?
Also you know that the Morena reference immediately following the talk of the not unfinished WW script might produce a wee bit of dun-dun-dun CASTING SPECULATION (cue eery music). Ok I'll stop now.

Yes, that was the convention. Or as Buffy/Angel fans call it Moonlight Rising.

I think Nathan Fillion must understand about the Charity aspect of the Serenity Now/Equality Now screenings...or if he doesn't his parents and his brother will be explaining it to him.

The event was amazing in EDMONTON CITY OF FILLION! I've never been so proud to be a part of something before. The amount of walk-ups we got was humbling and even Nathan's parents and brother came out to support. I'll admit I tried to control my fangurl smiles but it was hard because whenever his dad smiled I started to smile again. It was like Smile Time except without the puppets of evil along with no Angel-puppet...

Not only did we raise money for an amazing cause but it also spread the word of what Equality Now is all about and hopefully those people will tell more people who will tell more people and... yeah you get the point.

I heard a lot of people say that buying another Serenity on June 23rd was a waste of money - I think the Amazon rank says otherwise. #2 is the highest its been since way back in January.

I don't know if the total sales are anywhere near enough for a sequel yet, but this'll certainly show up on Universal's radar.
