Okay, is there anyway to get the two-disc special edition thing of Serenity (the BDM)? Apparently it's only sold in Australia and a couple European countries. So is there any way to get it here in the US? Any ideas, anybody?

I aim to misbehave.

Here ya go, chief.

It even comes with a limited edition tin box! For those who are in to such. Only problem is that it can be kinda expensive. Oh well.

And it's region 2 or 4 and PAL encoded so you'll need some nonstandard (and illegal) video equipment to play it.

C'mon Universal us Norteamericanos would really love to see this released for our market. Don't you want to make money?

If youve got a computer with a DVD/RW drive, and DVD Shrink or a program like it, you can take the Region encoding off, then burn it, and watch it anywhere.

Like I said nonstandard and illegal equipment. Though I guess DVD-rw is more or less standard on new compys region stripping and reburning is still illegal.

awww ...

why d'"they" (YOU know... the "Powers That Be") ( oh don't try to play dumb, "You KNOW Who You Are"...) inSIST on making this kinda thing so hard for me?

WHY?!? I say, "WH-HY-YY!!!"...

I am, at best, disapp... I mean, I'm just trying to give these folks my hard earned money - SHYTE - as they say in "Trainspotting"®, all i wanna do is Buy This Disc!! ...ANY of these discs... ALL of these discs... the BDS - the BDM - the BDAustralian-Tin-Box, I don't care... I'm just trying to give these people more money...

Of course, I admit I'd most like to give them some more of my hard-earned dollars (H.E.D. - ??) for Serenitish products that haven't been created yet but... I realize I'm "preachin' to the choir," here. If only Universal was listening...

Y'know... if Universal isn't listening to all our collective voices then... "they're just stupid, inbred stacks of meat."

Just set your DVD drive to Region 4 and enjoy, legally. You can usually switch regions 5 times.
I have the Australian tin box and of course the German Limited Edition, and they both play on my region 2 players. For region 1 DVDs, I got one of my DVD drives permanently set to region 1.
It eludes me why they don't release the Limited Edition in the US. Maybe because the extra extras were added for the Australian version (a panel in Sydney, for example), when the US version was already out.
Anyways, maybe we should ask Universal to release the Limited Edition (maybe even with MORE bomus materials) in the US - the market is obviously there, as they can clearly see from S-Days success. You know YOU'd buy it.
Should be possible to release it for Christmas, if they're game.

Hey, thanks everyone. I really wish that they would just release it in the US though, with even more special features, lol. I don't want to do anything illegal so i guess i'm not going to do it, lol. I bet they will soon. They'd be kind of crazy not to.

I aim to misbehave.

*picks up and hugs his copy*

Well, there's a few extended scenes, some behind the scenes stuff, a Q&A with Joss... a nice tin too (with a reversible cover so you don't have to have the huge Australian rating bit on the front).

I'll be putting one up for auction shortly for Equality Now (I've gotten rather delayed due to unforeseen real life stuff) and if the winning bidder wants, I'll also enclose a copy of the discs made region free.

There's supposed to be a "Shiny Edition" in the pipe for R1. Not sure when it's supposed to be released though. Word is, it will include a cast commentary, and deleted scenes, that's all I've heard so far.

IANAL (lawyer), but I don't believe it's illegal to make a for-personal-use, region-stripped copy of a DVD that you bought.

By the way, even doing that doesn't guarantee that your DVD player and/or TV will accept and play the PAL format. For example, my DVD player plays the region-stripped copy but my TV won't sync to it. I can play the Aussie DVD on my 'puter just fine, though.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

If you buy a multi region dvd player, it wouldn't be illegal. That's what I did, it was only 40 euros(50ish dollars), I'm sure you can pick up an equally cheap one it the States. Then there's always the issue of PAL/NTSC compatibility for your TV, unless you have a HDTV - I think they display both systems . Or just buy it to play on your computer. There's always ways to make that work.

Either way I'd say buy the region 4 DVD if you can, i doubt it'd be that expensive to ship to the US - it's got so much more good stuff then the region 1 version, especially the deleted scenes and the Aussie Q and A .

I ordered my Aussie copy from www.cd-wow.com,

http://www1.cd-wow.com/searchresults.php?searchfield=serenity

they're UK based, but they ship from Hong Kong, and they deliver worldwide, FOR FREE!!
We're still flying.

I've linked a very informative page that outlines your options (both above AND below board) on DVD regions and how to get around these pesky codes. Good Luck!

Just rumor mill fodder from various DVD News sites and forums, hence the "supposed to be" part.

I keep thinking aobut the Pioneer for $179. the thing I can't figure out is, if it'll play HD-DVD's I don't think it will tho.

I tend to think I'll wait to buy my next DVD player when the Blue-ray vs. HD-DVD issue gets played out a bit more. But then again they do have a $69 one.
