is anyone else having trouble with Amazon?
I went to check out with my shopping cart at Amazon with
2 Serenity DVDs
1 Firefly DVDs

but in checkout they had altered my order to 5,
and wouldn't let me check out because THAT is too many
but it wouldn't let me alter it back to "1"

is anyone else having a problem?

Nope . . .that's really weird. Small glitch?

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

Clearly an evil plot to stop you.

Have you tried simply emptying the cart and starting over?

Yes, I have exactly the same problem. I order qty 1, and it changes it to 5 with a message that says that it *reduced* my quantity to the maximum allowable.

I have reported the bug to Amazon. Their tech had to pass the problem along to their web team. Supposedly it will be fixed by the end of the day, but we'll see.

Is it Serenity or Firefly you're all having the problem with?

I'm glad to hear this!
sorry you are having problems too, DonCoat,
but it means that Amazon actually has a problem and should be working to fix it!

(maybe they are just sold out of Firefly DVDs?)

thanks for letting me know

yw!

Out of curiosity, did you ever try to order a large quantity of Serenity DVDs previously? I did, a long time back (I think I ordered 10). It was after that that I started having this problem. I'm wondering whether that has something to do with this problem. If you did something similar, it would be evidence that that's what causes it.

...hmmm, two "that that"'s in one paragraph. Strange.

By the way, when I reported the problem (and after they confirmed it was real), the Amazon tech gave me a $5 credit on my account, just for the hassle. So you might want to call their tech support too!

I just ordered one from Amazon as well with no problems. Well not actually Amazon, one of their independant sellers. Must have just been a small glich in the system. Probably from too many Browncoats buying all of the ruttin DVD's.

That would be really cool if we'd already sold them out! But that stinks about the ordering glitches. Good luck with it!

I just placed an order and had no troubles.

Firefly was at 8 ranking and Serenity was at 23...

I had the same problem, and yes, I did try to order more when they originally came out. Amazon would only let me order in lots of five. So I bought two lots of five...THEN. Now, I just want one.

The sales count no matter where you get them, so maybe I'll get one from one of their independent sellers.

When I looked, about an hour ago (10 PDT), Firefly was at #3 and Serenity was at #7!

I'll email Amazon with my problem. If enough people complain, they should get right on it.

I'm seeing Firefly at #8 and Serenity at #23.
Or am I looking at the wrong list?

Surely we can do better than that?

I went back and looked. I was looking at the TV DVD sales and Science Fiction sales. What you all are talking about is the overall list.

However, the individual TV list is telling because from the time I saw it at 10ish to now at 11:30, Firefly went from 3 to 2. I can't seem to find a movie list.

All the buying we're doing will surely impact the overall list by midnight tonight, not to mention all the sales of Serenity that are happening in retail stores.

Is there some place to track total sales of Serenity?

It could be the 'verse telling you to buy more! Just a few minutes ago I just ordered 2-Firefly and 3-Serenity from Amazon through the link on the homepage here and the order processed as expected. (Will I complain if I get 5 of each? Not until the VISA bill arrives!) Maybe all the east coast Browncoats gave it too much of a workout this morning and we west coast late risers owe y'all thanks for getting it all fixed before we got online. 'preciate it!

The same thing happened to me last December, and I still can't order Serenity. Amazon sucks! They are lying if they say it will be fixed at the end of the day. I have emailed and called a hundred times and they kept telling me tech support will look into it. Finally, I demanded to speak with a manager.

Bottom line is that 5 is the limit, per account. I'm not talking about trying to buy 5 at once. Amazon counts your total order history. You can phone Amazon and order more, or you have to create a new account. It's BULLSHIT.

There's a little drop down box on the right that shows the maximum allowable.

Serenity's limit is 5:

But, Batman's limit is 30. NO FAIR!

The last email I received from Amazon said this:

Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.

I am sorry to learn that you are unable to purchase additional copy of "Serenity (Widescreen Edition)."

Please keep in mind that we are a retailer, not a wholesaler. We want as many customers as possible to be able to enjoy the items we sell, and so for some popular items we've limited the quantity that an individual customer may purchase from our store.

It is always important for us to hear how customers react to all aspects of shopping at Amazon.com. Strong customer feedback like yours helps us continue to improve the selection and service we provide, and we appreciate the time you took to write to us.

We hope you'll understand. Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com.

I guess they don't want our money?

That's pretty odd. It seems strange that the limit would apply forever. I could understand limiting the number you could buy per day, or per month. But I haven't bought a copy since last December!

It really does seem like they're shooting themselves in the foot with this rule. Good grief, if I buy more than five copies I'm a reseller all of a sudden? Yeesh.

Well, I'm sure DeepDiscountDVD won't have any problem selling me a bunch more copies.

well I gave up on Amazon and ordered through Overstock.com
unfortunately that doesn't benefit Haken at all,
but I'll give a separate donation to this beloved site.

I've never had any problems w/Amazon before,
and I use them a lot...
but if they are trying to slow down the buying of Firefly DVDs
(is that paranoid of me thinking that? That they are trying to promote Batman Begins while hindering Firefly sales?)
then I'll stop doing business with them completely,
because it isn't like there aren't a hundred different sites for ordering stuff online.

I think the problem is that with the special, they are selling at or below cost.

They probably think that people ordering more than four or five are retailers trying to take advantage of the special to refill their own stock.

except that that is not a unique price,
Overstock has them at the same price,
and WalMart (online) and Best Buy have both offered them for less ($10/each instead of $11/each)

I imagine that Chis is right, in a week or so Amazon will respond to my e-mails and apologize for their system glitch... and maybe even offer a $5 certificate like they did w/Doncoat

but it IS very annoying!

I finally ordered through overstock.com too. The price hadn't gone up there.

This is the first time I've had problems with Amazon, and I'm not happy. I sort of think of Amazon as the indicator of how my favorite tv show and my favorite movie are doing. But if they are impeding the sales by their policy, then I am really angry. I was also not happy that the price went up in the middle of the day.

I seem to remember that BestBuy had the same policy at Christmas, so I got five copies there and five copies from Amazon.

Well, I finally made my Serenity Day purchase of Serenity. So I am happy and content. And I donated to Haken. So it's all been sorted out.

Happy Serenity Day, everyone!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I just ordered two copies of Serenity, since they had gone up on the price that got me free shipping. No problems with the order as far as I can see at this time.

Amazon sent me an e-mail which was no help at all, and I couldn't even write back to them w/reply...
(it was one of those e-mails that won't allow replies)
which I wanted to do because I wanted to send them a copy of the bad order form,
because I think if they could see it, they could see the glitch in their system....

I did manage to tell them (on another complaint/help form at their site) that I ordered thru Overstock...

wankers.
