MISBEHAVEN

I attended the showing in Cleveland. Ours appears to have been one of the smaller gatherings, but I think it's safe to say that we all had blast.

The Madison, WI showing was a blast, even though I was kind of wet and smelled like a lake. I love my copy of the movie at home, but on the big screen is definitely the best. The 2nd best would be my parents big screen TV with wireless headphones (ends up kind of like surround sound).

Back to packing!

My post about the Atlanta GA screening:

The drama for the evening: our film melted! It got caught in the projector and it melted before our eye! It was the scene when Mal is fighting the Operative in the Generator room. The Op. asks what Mal's sin is and it cuts to Mal....and stops and we watched as Mal melted away! Melting film can be a very beautiful thing...but not when its Mal!! see, heres my theory on the film melting....the projector finally succommed to the hotness that is Mal! Just couldn't take it anymore.

So they fixed it and it comes back mid "wrath" so you can now buy a t-shirt that says "Ath: A new Deadly Sin"

I had a great time at this screening. I was so thankful that the organizers were able to put it together in such a short amount of time! (about a week-ish?). They showed the trailer from Done the Impossible, had a small costume contest, a raffle (I won this great shirt. It says "There were space monkeys" on on the back theres a well, space monkey!)and Lilac Trading station was selling his wares. I drove to Atlanta from Savannah to see it (so it was about an 8 hour round trip ) but it was so worth it! ( at least I had company and without him I wouldn't have gone. SO many thanks to my buddy who went with me!) I became a Browncoat a little while after I saw Serenity in theaters so I got to watch it as a true Browncoat (if still alittle green) and it was amazing. I feel that getting to see it last night in a theater with other Browncoats gave me an idea of how all you original 'Coats felt when you saw the preview screenings a year ago. What a rush! Esp. the introduction of Serenity. I get chills everytime I watch that sequence on my dinky computer screen. So seeing it in theaters (again) was amazing! I remember that sequence blowing me away when I saw for the 1st time. To a general movie goer, it was just a kick ass sequence...but at the screening, it was so familar..not quite sure how to describe it...and what blew me away was the context in which I was getting to see it. Very very cool. This film is a big screen film. Its the way it should be watched so my many thanks for the Atlanta Browncoats for getting the job done! :)

SHINYALORA

went to the tucson serenity/buffy sing-along double header and the serenity showing sold out and had to turn poor browncoats away. we also had a guy who said his daughter had been born the day before (ours was the 24th so that would make it the 23rd on joss's birthday) and that she was named mikayla aka kaylee :) i also won a very shiny prize from our raffle that consisted of the buffy core book and the once more with feeling soundtrack, and converted my sister because she had never seen the movie the whole way through or on a big screen. all around it was just a wonderful night! wtg tucson organizers!

LIONESS

The Toronto screening went really well from my perspective - but I was organizing and had twice as many people show up to buy tickets at the theatre than I expected,so I was very happy.
No costumes that I saw - we hadn't mentioned it and wouldn't have had time to do a judging in any case.
We made just over $2,000 Cdn, with about 220 in the audience. I know there were some people who had never seen it before and many who hadn't seen it on the big screen, and that was very cool too.

It was great seeing Serenity on the Silver Screen again. I was the one driving the Bio-diesel powered antique white Mercedes Benz 300D (the Riviera was in the shop, getting a new gas tank)

I've never seen that theater so full before. I saw V for Vendetta a week before and there were only 3 other people there.

RALEIGHBROWNCOAT

Here is what I posted to the CSTS yahoo group on Thursday night right after the Raleigh screening (you can find this and other reports at http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/reports BTW):

"Whew -- just returned from the Raleigh screening shindig and it was SHINY!! Our theater was filled to capacity and everyone had a stupendous time. We had door prizes and raffle prizes -- I won a Kaylee gift basket, complete with jacks, tool set, and a teddy bear, which one of my little ones will love! The winners of the costume contest were awarded really shiny trophy plaques that a local Browncoat who owns a trophy shop had donated. He even created a really cool commemorative "thank you" plaque for the theater owners. This theater, Raleighwood Cinema Grill, is one of those places where you can eat food & drink mudder's milk while watching the BDM -- and we sure did!

As an aside, this was the first time seeing the BDM on the big screen for me. And, I took a buddy of mine who had never seen the BDM at all, not even on DVD. (Super props to our respective wives, who stayed home to watch our respective little ones). Anyway, the look on his face, at a particularly ... shocking moment ... was priceless. He had a huge smile, though, on his face as we were leaving the theater, heading home to our families. He thanked me for inviting him and said that Serenity was a truly great film.

All I can say is that the generosity of the Browncoats, the enthusiasm, and the sheer friendliness of the whole gang made this one event I won't forget in a long, long time. I am so proud to be a Browncoat!"

Thanks again, Bix, for overseeing this massive project, and also Flame, our local Cappy, for organizing our Raleigh screening. And thanks to all the other Browncoats who went to the screenings. What a great event!!

MAKESUSMIGHTY

My thoughts on the Boston screening of the BDM and on Equality Now.

Not real good with words - Don't use them much myself. But I'm here to say that my first experience with a CULT viewing of any film ever was the MOST enjoyable time I've ever had in a movie theater, even including my long ago teen years in the back row. I join DONCOAT (please see his post) in a JAYNE HATS off to the NEW ENGLAND BCs and Equality NOW for organizing this special event. Not gonna say all the gushing things about Joss, Serenity, Firefly and the BDHs' here, don't need to repeat. You know them all or you won't be here reading this post.
But still I just have to say that it was surely a fine thing to see that beloved ship sail across the big screen once again - that never gets old!

Please forgive me but I feel compelled at this time to remind everyone that Equality Now is just a group of people that have taken on the dirtiest end of the dirtiest stick there ever was in human history, and they just took it. And that's something. If you went to the screenings or not be a real Browncoat, send them a buck or five, support them. Think of all the cultures all around the world that either permits or forces one half of the human population into an existance that you would not tolerate. It happens even in enlightend countries that have laws against it. Be a real Browncoat. Do it.

Thanks for reading this.

FOREVERSHINY

Did anyone go to the Albany one? I didn't get to ask if anyone from here went...

Honestly, it was almost better than seeing it the first time around, cause the Palace had a better sound system. Surround sound, man! It was great. All hail the Browncoats!

Glad you had such an amazing time, MakesUsMighty, and they did take that stick, didn't they? Thanks for bringing it back to one of the reasons why we did this.

DARKJESTER

I was at the Charlotte screening, and we had a great time! About 150 fans, some absolute newbies as well as old Browncoats. In fact, a young couple traded their MI3 tickets back in to come and watch Serenity with us!

We had a local newspaper reporter, who is also a Browncoat, to draw names for the raffle, but I didn't win anything. I did get some video of the drawings, and the whole theater saying "Happy Birthday Joss!". I also got some video of the fan table with CallMeSerenity, Ash and Jadehand handing out tickets and selling T-Shirts and the like.

I got to see some old friends from the North Carolina Big Damn Movie Premiere Party last September 30th, and meet some new fans/flans/Browncoats. I wish I could have hit the pub afterwards with others, but I was there with my son, and he's 13 - a bit too young for pubbing! There was talk of meeting up at DragonCon this year, so here's hoping!

MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."

MIMA

lioness didn't do justice to the description of Toronto. here's the highlights: serenity up on the big marquee outside gave me chills. charming theater, great crowd- atmo was fun but respectful everyone laughed at all the right places, people were quietly singing the fruity oaty bar song (but i was the only one singing firefly at the end of the credits that i heard). tons of great fan tshirts. raffle- I won! they did it really well- simple and quick. they organized a big dinner for everyone who wanted to go afterward. thanks for all you did lioness! great time was had by this rochester browncoat and her husband! i agree with another person- seeing it up on the big screen again was incredible. after watching it for so long on the small screen... it took my breath away. oh and the joss speech at the beginning was awesome.

lioness- post the link for the great big happy bday shout out for joss.

LIONESS

Well shucks, Mima, thanks! Did you come to the dinner afterwards? 'Cause I'm sorry that I didn't talk to you if you did. Unless I did and was just to tired to notice!
I'll post the video including the shout out to Joss once it is done. Our videographer is busy making up something else for a panel we are doing at the TT20 con this weekend. "Serenity: The things that made you go oooh!"
And I was singing the Firefly theme at the end as we rushed to get the door prizes out! But quietly.
