Ok, clearly I'm an ideot, but I can't play those eps for the love of sex. Seriously, I've downloaded about 5 diffrent players, none of which work. I've tryed all the players I already had on my computer, none of which work. I've upgraded, cleaned my memory, and sacrificed a chicken, and the files still are unplayable! Am I the only one having this problem?

The first thing to do would be to describe your operating system and the specs on your computer. I'm sure someone can help you.

umm....
was it a *FULL* chicken that you sacrificed?
Not one from KFC?

Ok, pending updates on your OS, I'd suggest getting a Software DVD player, like WinDVD, that should install the codecs you need...

One way I got the codecs I needed for some old episodes of buffy was from teh kazaa lite site.(check google)

They have like every rare codec in a package(and all the normal ones too) for free along with a decent player if you need one(I didn't)

Just another thing to try.

Oh and the most important thing, what OS? Its assumed windows, but if not, that makes this a bit harder ;)

Don't squat with your spurs on.

Can you be more specific? Does the system crash or do you get a message window?

I get a little window with every player (window's media, Quick time, Win DVD, and a whole bunch more) that says the file is unreadable. I've downloaded other files offline and never had this problem. My computer is about a year and a quarter old and I'm using windows xp. Everything's good but those stupid files? Should I try and download them again? Could something of happend?

Harri, I had the same problem using the same Windows XP when I tried to dowlad formthe Physicschick bit.torrent site.

When I use LJC's mirror site, (there are 2-- Message and HoG you can find links in the threads right here)it plays on Realplayer with no problems at all. Have you tried deleting the bit.torrent files and downloading from LJC? I can tell you I was nuts for about 4 days and the eps are all great among the best. Good Luck
Kate

I think if you search Google for the Nimo Codec Pack, all your troubles will go away.

The titles are "Trash" and "Heart of Gold" and "The Message" This is the sight I downloaded them off of and the site I tryed to download the player off of. I think I figured out what went wrong with my system -- hopefully it'll work the first time for you.

You can get the unaired eps here:
http://grove.susurrous.net:81/trash.html

But you need to download and install BitTorrent first:

STONEGARGOYLE

Hello everybody. I know I would be going nuts if I couldn't find these episodes so I thought I'd chime in.

I got them from here:
http://www.loony-archivist.com/firefly/heart.htm

Change that last word to trash or message for the other episodes. Blitz fast downloads.

I think the reason everybody is having so much trouble playing the big files is that while they are .mpg's, they are mpg2's, not the more common mpg1's.

The mpg2's are of a higher resolution but are somewhat finicky.

I used a little program called TMpegEnc (freeware, do a Google search) to convert them to mpg1's. They were about 460 MB when done and make splendid VCDs. I even made my own Title/Splash screens. Also, most any PC can read them with no trouble once they've been converted.

If you download the avi files you may need to install the Nimo Codec pack (Google it). AVI files come in all sorts of flavors but usually are compressed with some sort of DivX encoding that has to be decoded. That's the second half of CoDec (Code-Decode). You can use a little freeware program called - and I'm not kidding - GSpot to determine just which codec you need.

Oh, and about Bit Torrent - the file you are downloading with bit torrent appears to be full size even though you may only have a partial download, so when you try to play it you get the message that you need bittorrent, or something like that. Usually this means it's not fully downloaded. Bit Torrent gave me fits.

And real player sux. Alot.

Don't give up! All three of the episodes are brilliant, I especially liked Trash and Heart of Gold. I've watched each of them numerous times now. It's great how you can pick up on subtle nuances on subsequent viewings. So many double meanings and long distance foreshadowing. Extraordinary writing and dialogue.

Sorry. I'm starting to go on about it. I'll stop.

Succatash and StonedGargoyle are correct.

The Nimo codec pack (I use nimo50build8 myself) and the TMpegEnc are both very good. They should solve your problems. A little note, you may have to uninstall nimo to get some of your favorite older games to play.

Has anyone recommended that you try the Divx player? If so, disregard me. If not, it's great for the stubborn avi's.
