Well, as near as I can tell (New Zealanders chime in here, since you'd know), both Australia and New Zealand are considered part of "Oceania" which isn't technically a continent, but a "macrogeographic region".

*shrug*

Dunno how to score all of this for marketing purposes here, heh.

Speaking of Marketing,

If you don't think New Zealand and Aussieland count as two continents, for marketing purposes
I'm counting them that way (I'll throw in a 4? mark).

I'm sure the Aussie's think of themselves as being on their own continent...so therefore New Zealand must be on another one, right??? What do you mean thinking doesn't count?

For marketing purposes, here is an idea

So maybe someone should go start an argument on a geography website...and spread the word about the Serenity Screenings.

USA, Canada, Scotland, England, Aussieland and New Zealand. June 2006 Serenity Charity Screenings in how many continents?

One? Two? Three? Four?

Be sure to mention it's for charity and link to the press release http://www.prweb.com/releases/2006/4/prweb376866.htm
and the website http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com

Unfortunately New Zealand is about the size of a postage stamp so it does not count as it's own continent (unlike Australia). It is however, full of wonderful intelligent Kiwis (NZers) who love Firefly so I hope that we get a Serenity screening.

Australia is an island. In fact the biggest I think, or is that Greenland, can never remember...

Anyway New Zealand is a country as is the USA and Canada... wait am I taking this way too seriously....

A continent is a land divided by countries, such as Africa. One large continent with many countries within: Ghana, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Sudan, Morrocco etc

I am taking this way to seriously aren't I ?

Unless the official count has changed since I was in school, there are seven continents. In no particular order, they are:

North America
South America
East America... no, wait, that's wrong...
Europe
Africa
Asia
Australia (a continent with only one country on it)
Antarctica (a continent with no countries on it)

Clearly we have screenings on at least two continents, N.A. and Oz.

Now, strictly speaking, any body of land that's not a continent is "just" an island. That includes Greenland, Iceland, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, the various islands of Japan, and so on. However, due to proximity and shared history, the British Isles are often considered to be a part of Europe. By the same argument, New Zealand could be lumped with Australia, Madagascar with Africa, Japan with Asia, etc.

So, depending on how you want to classify those islands, it's either two continents and two islands, three continents and one island, or just three continents.

Four is right out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't disagree on any particular point.
You have to call it three, I'm afraid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent
There is still widespread disagreement in the scientific community over what exactly constitutes a Continent. According to Geologists, it's defined by techtonic plate (making India it's own continent). Geographers define them by geographic diliniation (making India a sub-continent).
If you went to school in Latin America, you know very well that there are SIX continents, because North & South America are one continent.
Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, Micronesia, etc should be considered part of the Oceania or Australasian continent.
Sorry to complicate the issue, Bix!
YAY!!!
I live in Wellington and due to New Zealand's population distribution, (in that Auckland is New Zealand's only decent sized city - over 1 million souls), it usually gets all the good stuff and everyone else misses out. I'm so glad that Wellington is getting a screening, and getting one first - it's only proper given that Wellington is New Zealand's capital city and cultural centre.
Yep
Except for when events such as Moonlight Rising and Flanvention II etc are on as it's a little too far, not to mention expensive to travel to
Never mind, one must count one's blessings - which will be very easy on the 23rd.
Our BDHs should be made to undertake a Flanvention world tour that includes Germany and New Zealand
They could enjoy themselves in their downtime looking at our countries' breathtaking scenery and drinking our very fine wines.
Amen to that.
Actually, I was suprised to see how many Browncoats there were to see Jewel at the Wellington event about a month ago. Never though we had that many... I'm happy to be proven wrong.
Firefly is also playing here on Friday nights, as well as Saturday mornings and afternoons at the moment. Pretty bad advertising, and poor time slots, but it seems that's our lot in life.
Oh, come on! You got Jewel at Armageddon, we got nada. I flew down for that!
'course, we may just be getting Summer in October...
So, who do I talk to about getting tickets to this here Auckland screening?
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na, Wom-bat-maaaaaaaan!
We get nothing in Germany. Joss, Nathan and Summer (CALL ME!) have been here for a pre-screening in october, but that's about it. Not that I don't love them for it.
I wasn't a Browncoat back then so I didn't know, btw. The pre-screening was about 20 minutes from where I live.
I was actually born and lived for many years in Christchurch so I agree that it is the "unoffical" cultural capital of New Zealand
However, the New Zealand Arts Festival etc is centred in Wellington - probably because is the capital city of New Zealand and the seat of Government. When I lived in Christchurch I used to love to go to the Court Theatre and once saw an amazing production of "Angels in America".
Now I live in Wellington and it's not the same - I miss the wide open avenues and calm sunny days that Christchurch has.
But on the bright side Wellington is getting it's Serenity screening (so it's good for something)
