Whoever is in charge of cross-posting the juicy bits that appear on the main board over here seems to be remiss in their duties.

So here's the link: http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/messages?msg=8513.1

Well that certainly is awesome news! We've just got to hope that the project doesn't get stalled now.

One thing I've been wondering is, how can Firefly's various plots fit into a 2 hour movie? Is it going to have to change the story from the way it was done in "Serenity?" I mean, they're going to have to show the characters meeting up, otherwise people who didn't see the series are going to have the same problem we all did when Fox aired the shows out of order and not understand what's going on. That's a big no-no for movies.

Another question is, could a Firefly movie possibly restart the series if it does well? There was a time when every other movie was made into a series (Buffy being a perfect example), but I don't know of many that have made the transition from series to movie back to series. A movie franchise would be ok, but I'd much rather have a series back.

Of course, the series is probably not going to come back anytime soon... Nathan Fillion has his talent holding contract with NBC, and Morena Baccarin has a pilot that got picked up by Fox called "Still Life." Both of those deals would have to go away before the series could be revived.

Maybe the series could be revived of NBC without Morena. Inara was always talking about leaving anyway. Not that I don't like her, but she is the most expendable character. We can find Mal a new love interest. Hell, I'd do it!

I know. Not a snowball's chance in hell on either count, but one can dream.

The though occurs to me, if there was a Firefly movie, would the possibility not exist that it would begin with an extended look at the Battle of Serenity, the backstory on River, maybe some on Book and Jayne and etc?

All this, I would think, would be intresting and involving stuff, but once you got all those threads flowing towards that date when the last of the 9 come together in "Serenity" how do yu have a climax to the movie unless you cover the same ground covered in the pilot?

Alternatly, if you DON'T do backstory, how does the non Firefly-junkie know anything about who these people are and what they are like?

Is it possible to do the backstories for a while, then jump to an adventure that happens some time AFTER the TV eps we have seen?

Perhaps establish something of Book's history (which we have presumed was as an allince operative on some level) and use it as a platform to tell the story?

i.e.

First act does some stage setting on who mal and Zoe are and why they are fighting, then shifts to Book (or whatever he's called at the time) and establishes him involved in some duplicity that his concience can't live with and which connects him with some Alliance baddie. Tie this baddie into what's being done to River...
(Maybe Book is a loyal operative of Mr. Bad Guy in the taking down of Mal's Rebels but after having done so he becomes aware of the project involving River and sees his boss for the Bad Guy he is for the firs time and questions his own existance and flees to the monestary - you get the idea...)
Throw in some shot or other to establish Jayne (not sure how you establish Wash and Kaylee...maybe Kaylee is an orphan teen Mal rescues during the war or something, I dunno...)

act 2...the battle of Serenity, Book, Mal, Zoe, and Mr. Bad Guy's role in it, and Book's revelation and reaction to it...smattering of other characters along the way...

act 3... Mr. Bad Guy finds out where River is, and makes the connection to Mal. Book cannot stay out of the conflict, at some point Mal finds out his history and hates him for it but Book redeems himself in Mal's eyes by being instrumental in taking down Mr. Bad Guy and so forth......

Some holes I'm sure, and I really don't care for giving away so much of Book's mystery, but it seems to me that you are limited in how you can make a movie acsesable to the public without trampling on the series.

I'll take any Firefly I can get, but I too can see the value in being back on TV rather than a series of films.

Still, I ain't spittin on good news!

Not only does he still post, he's even been known on occasion to meet up with fans one on one for a beer or lunch.
