I realise times have changed, and I realise I'm about to speak on two different fandoms, one of which I'm no longer an enthusiast. But still, isn't it odd how history can repeat itself? Just go with me on this for a few minutes.....

Once upon a time, I was a hardcore Trekkie. Yes, I freely admit this and I welcome anyone's recommendation to a recovery program no matter how many steps it takes. BUT, being a Trekkie made me realise something about being a Browncoat. And that something is, by no means is it over till it's over.

The original Star Trek was cancelled after three seasons (the last of which was indubitably lousy, IMO). The fans raised hell. A movie was made. This first movie was a box-office flop, its overall quality was less than inspiring and it was the earliest proof that the even-numbered Star Trek movies are invariably better than the odd-numbered ones. Now before the Great Bird of the Galaxy does something really messy on me, allow me to point out that there are enough even-numbered and odd-numbered Star Trek movies to prove this - despite the first one's poor performance, nine more have followed in its flat wake over the last 25 years. And now if you'll continue to bear with me, I'm going to get to the point...

Firefly was cancelled after less than one season. Again the fans raised hell. Another movie was made. This movie was fantastic, incredible, mind-boggling, whopping in every respect - except its box-office performance. So the prevailing question is, do we as Browncoats have a similar story to look forward to? That in spite of this mild disappointment, studio execs might be imposed upon, however reluctantly, to give Uncle Joss another chance at telling his story? Let's aim to find out, my friends. As the Serenity Summer draws upon us, let's be bad guys - let the world know that Firefly has an audience and that we will do whatever it takes to expand that audience! Let us continue forth to the four corners of the Earth-that-will-have-been and, be our efforts subtle or overt, throw a coat of brown upon every back we see. True, things may get a little oh-God-oh-God-we're-all-gonna-die before we're through, but if there's even the remotest chance we might witness a miracle...

...I say, so be it.

ETA: Heh - I just noticed I posted this at 17:01 hours Eastern. Those of you unawares, that's the U.S.S. Enterprise's hull number.

I see another Serenity movie as a unstoppable fact. The fanbase is just to big and the concept is to good. Look at BattleStar Galactica, that show died eons ago, but its still back for another kicking. The question is just how long will it take untill we get another? Personally I hope we get it sooner then later

You can’t stop the Signal.
Keep spreading the word about Firefly!

I agree with everything you say (except as a big fan of all things Trek myself, I disagree with the notion that there's anything shameful in that! lol)

- Shiny. Let's be bad guys.

I agree also that we'll get a new Serenity movie sooner rather than later. The fan base is expanding rapidly and Hollywood is putting out a lot of goesee (did I spell it right?) and most of it is remakes of old movies that no one is spending their hard earned money on.

Serenity is fresh and original, with a growing fan base and I predict that a sequel will be announced by the end of the year or the spring of 2007 and at your local Cineplex by 2008.

Hope I don't have to fall on my sword on this.

One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I hope your predictive powers are accurate (or a little slow, as Im not sure I can wait till 2008 to see Captain Mal and crew on the big screen again).

Serenity is just too damn pretty to die!!

I think we could have a firefly series back on tv, especially since "theman" (mr. lucas) will be venturing into tv land soon. other networks will be looking for there own star wars type show. all these networks do is copy each other with there own franchises. I still say use a show to lead into a movie. make the movie as a climax to the season, 23 episodes telling a story that finishes with one big climax on the big screen.

"And I think calling him that is an insult to the psychotic lowlife community."

Steamer, I like the way you think. THe more the better. Actually, right now I'd settle for anything from Hollywood that isn't a remake or a revamp of a TV show. More Serenity is just what the Dr. ordered.
