I was thinking that we should write some new intros to firefly, like the ones Book and Mal do, for each of the characters. They could all be done from the individual character's point of view and say something new about the 'verse or Earth-that-was. Anyway, post your submissions in reply.

From Inara's perspective:

I'm a whore, but I'm not used up.
I am on a space ship with a group of smugglers.

We even picked up a preacher. I can tell he's no Shepherd, he didn't fool me when he knelt and cried at my feet.

Sex? Not so much. Haven't had a decent job in weeks. The captain wants my ass but he can't have it. I love him but nobody knows.

A Companion always chooses. A gun could change my mind.

Wish I could take credit for this one, but it's from Lux Lucre's site: I guess the voice would be: William...(insert heavy emoting)... Shatner.

Space: The everyday frontier. These are the voyages of the cargo ship Serenity. Her mission...

"Hey Wash, have we got a job today?"

"Nope. But Kaylee says we need to swing by Persephone to pick up a couple of synchronizers."

...To swing by Persephone and pick up a couple of synchronizers. To seek out new jobs and new ways to avoid civilization. To boldly go where the Feds ain't.

Okay, put your own appropriate montage of images from the show here, but I imagine the music being River's sad violin theme from "Objects in Space."

This is Simon's narration:

Earth was gone. We accepted that… We moved on.

We reached the new worlds, but some settlers lost everything. They had to start over with nothing.

There was an Alliance who won a war for control of the worlds. For some this meant government, order… For others, the Alliance was just another oppressor.

Captain Malcom Reynolds lost the war against the Alliance. On his ship Serenity, he keeps the sky between himself and law. He’s a hard man, but decent. He found a crew; soldiers, a pilot… A mechanic. A companion lends Serenity some respectability, and a shepherd tries to guide them.

I guess I’m the doctor, but I’m also a fugitive. Because the Alliance also took my sister from me until I rescued her.

I still don’t know what they did to her, but we lost everything we had. We had to start over.

But like the Captain says, we’re still flying. That’s something.

Somebody else do one!

River:

Earth-that-was, isn't. We're all just floating. The day is a vestigial mode of time, no longer applicable.

They were hurting me. My brother took me away and brought me here. He takes so much looking after. Now they'll never stop trying to get me back. Two by two, hands of blue...

We crawl inside Serenity, and carry our oceans with us, only 8.6 seconds away from the black.

The Captain lost his way, but it's right in front of him. He just doesn't see it.

Some fight to fly, and some fly to fight. Some have faith but don't believe, and some are listening to hear what they already know.

I met the real River, but I couldn't look. No power in the 'verse can stop me.

Keep flying.

Wash

They polluted Earth-that-Was all to hell, then moved out and started polluting a bunch of new little earths all to hell. Then there was the war and it's none of your business where I was or what I was flying. Now I'm the pilot on Serenity. Captain thinks a lot of himself. But it’s cos of him, I guess, that I found and married my beautiful wife who could, by the by, kill me with her pinky. The two of them hired some huge sack of guts to tote a gun for them and the best mechanic in the ‘verse. We’ve even got our own companion. Now there’s a doctor and his poor sister and some shepherd I don't think's a shepheard. You got a job, we'll do it. Unless it’s too respectable. Wouldn’t want to make any easy money or anything.

Thanks, the IRC crew inspired me to it. Here's my Simon attempt, in desperate need of appropriate scene shots (and possibly some trimming):

Simon: In school they teach you about Earth-that-was. It got full, resources got thin. So we moved on.

We spread out over a whole galaxy, settling everywhere we could, and terraforming the planets that needed it. Some of them made it big...some never will.

The biggest and best formed the Alliance, looking to bring us all under one government. The outer worlds resisted, for a while, and there was war. My sister and I had our own battle to fight with the Alliance. We escaped and fortune or fate led us to Serenity.

It's a good ship, a Firefly-class transport, with a captain, who sometimes borders on the psychotic, and an able, if psychologically abnormal, crew. There's a preacher, a companion, and, when I'm not looking out for River, I even do my part as ship doctor.

I guess the two of us are fugitives now. We're still running, probably always will be. But we've found our old freedom again, and maybe, a new home.
