I just finished the graphic novel. Its sad that I just got it today after being a fan of the series and BDM for...well ever since the BDM came out. This was it for me this was the very last new piece of fireflydom that I will get for God knows how long. It makes me quite sad. I had such joy reading the novel though. I could feel myself smiling and chuckling and as I got to the last few pages I got the same sadness that I got when watching OiS the first time. Anyway I wanted to let all of you know how I felt 'cause I'm sure you've gone through it too, I actually had a quesiton though. Does anyone know if and when there'll be more comics coming out? I had heard a series was going to start up. I'm very anxious for it now. I was afraid the comic wouldn't be as good as the series or BDM, but I was wrong it made me just as happy. So yeah any info on that would be great thanks.

Joss has started working on another 'Serenity' comic, he talked about it iFMagazine:
http://www.ifmagazine.com/new.asp?article=2920
I think we can hope for it later this year
(knock on wood)

edited to add: the pertenant remarks are here:
Quote:

“Comics BUFFY and SERENITY at Dark Horse are a yes," he says. "Brett Mathews is waiting for me to get off my butt, and we’ve been working on another outline for a three-part SERENITY story. I’ve written the first issue of BUFFY and we’re waiting for the artist to get free, and then that’s going to be in four-issue arcs that are going to take us over several issues. I’m going to try and dragoon several very talented writers into doing their own arcs inside of that. SERENITY will be a prequel story to the movie; it will be during the FIREFLY days.”

I'm glad you finally got to read the first one!

SPOILERS!!!!

yeah I was just wondering....? Did Book kill them? Is that what they were trying to imply? Or did he just hit them? I was a bit confused on that.

it is necessary to protect anyone from comic book spoilers? (it came out a year ago after all)?
if so then (highlight this to read it):

Select to view spoiler:

I don't think Book killed or even hit anyone (except Mal of course)
but he'd been used as a distraction to get the townspeople out of the way during a robbery,
and THEN he (Book) had stolen a vehicle to help with the get away...
and I think Book became convinced that he would constantly be used by Mal,
and he would be constantly doing wrong things in order to help keep this crazy crew safe...
so he decided to leave Serenity.

One of the important missions of the comic was to show how and when Inara & Book left...
and to show The Operative receive his assignment to go after them (to find River)

oh yeah, and it also sets up why Mal hadn't wanted Jayne to carry hand grenades at the beginning of the movie....
LOL

I really love that Joss can come up with a story like this, that brings in old familiar characters, and helps develop the crew's character profiles,
and bridges the plot from the TV show to the movie...
all in a really fun exciting comic book!

My impression was...

Select to view spoiler:

(assuming you were refering to the Blue guys) that Book didn't kill them or hit them...He was just ready to if they broke through the airlock again. (I think they were killed by their proximity to Serenity's full burn.) But the fact that he was ready to (and would probably find himself in similar situations again in the future with the crew, as he already has many times in the past), was the critical issue in his decision to leave.
