First of all, I'd love to hear ideas for massive multi-player on-line game set in the Firefly/Serenity 'verse. I know this has been talked about before, but let's talk about what the game might revolve around, the plot, the goals, the characters, etc.

Now, I've never played a MMORPG myself, although I've watched a friend play a little WoW, so let's try to be a specific as possible for us laymen. If you tell me it would be a cross between Star Wars Battlefront and World of Warcraft, it really doesn't tell me a whole lot, since I've never played both, and many other Browncoats probably haven't either.

Now to the plot. Do we fly across the 'verse in search of Reavers? Are we all "petty theives" or are some characters trying to make an honest living? Can we play as the Alliance and if so, are out rid the 'verse of the scum like the crew of Serenity?

Or maybe the game doesn't take place after the Unification war, but takes place during the war. Would that be more appealing? Alliance verses the Browncoats? Could there ever be a winner in a MMORPG if that is the setting?

As mentioned, I don't know much about playing games on-line myself. I was an avid Medal of Honor player on-line, but I think it would be cool to hammer out ideas for what us Browncoats think would make a really cool Firefly/Serenity game and why. Could a game in this setting really work, because after all, what really makes FF/S work and appeal to us Browncoats are the characters and their relationships with on another. (IMHO)

I have a friend who works for a software development company, and, while there is a 1 in a trillion chance I'd convince him to get his company to work on such a project, I'd love to pass along any of this input to him just in case ...

Also, what would it take to get the rights for a game? Could a game work on another level like INTO THE BLACK is trying to, by creating only new characters and never use the words Firefly or Senenity or any known cast or crew? That would mean the game would be set in the 'verse, but not "officially". Could that work?

So let's hear those ideas! Come on Browncoat gamers!

Well the story would have to open ended like Morrowwind, or Elder Scrolls. It could have a main story, but you don;t have a set path to get there.

Also it has to have a lot of ship and NPC's. The jobs will need to be able to come from anywhere. You could buy your own ship and hire a crew [either npc or pc] and then go on jobs.

All our favorites would have to be there; Niska, Badger, Fanty and Mingo, YoSafBridg, and etc. With those people their respective planets and/or space stations/ships.

You could have random reaver attacks on planets and in space, as well as Alliance cruiser constantly hunting you if you have a bounty on your heads. You can choose to help the Alliance by being a bounty hunter or just regular joe. Or you can choose to go against the Alliance militarily. Or you can choose to just keep flying.

The battles in the game will need to be at least two ways. Space battles can be much like the Ace Combat series on PS2 type stuff. Fast and reactive more than smashing buttons. And the 'land' battles, like gun fights or fists fights, will have to be much like syphon filter. Have a lock on target and different skills that need to be upgraded.

Each Character will have to be made from scratch and the game will need to have a indepth character creation process so everyone looks different. The player can pick everything from what nationality the character is going to be to what color his teeth are.

After that you'll have to have a skill distibution process much like KOTOR. Some of the skills could be;
Quick Draw
Mechanic
Pilot
Weapons
Personality
Street smarts
Medical
Computer Skills
Sensuality
Class

To just name a few.

You will also need a few attributes that help the above skills. All the standard INT, STR, DEX, DEF... etc, etc.

Background of the character. The player can write a background of the character if they want to or just have the computer randomize one for them.

You should make this game 3D, and have the space scenes look a lot like EVE [It's online if you want to check it out]. Every planet should be much like a town in a normal MMO. Travel time between planets should be variable, based on speed and how many times something goes wrong or you have to detour.

You should be able to stay on the planet if you so choose and still be able to live a productive life.

There is a lot more, but that's all for now. If you would like to hear more or have me elaborate more on any of the ideas here send me an email at Firestalker2005@hotmail.com.

I hope these ideas help you.

Well, you know that this has been discussed before. So, I'm rather amiss as to why you haven't gone through the archives. There are tonnes of very specific ideas answering what you are asking.

Also, when it comes to getting a commercial MMORPG, I'm sorry to say, but that's a pipe dream. No-one is going to take the chance on doing that. Just look at how much it costs to make one of these games and you'll see why. Way too much risk. Hell, even an established franchise like Star Wars is having problems. And look at the problems that WoW is having. Other examples abound.

I'm sorry to say this, but the archives reveal a great number of people talking about making a game, with pretty much no-one actually starting to make said game. So, if you or anyone else is actually willing to do actual work getting any FF/S game off the ground there are several in the making already.

An Oblivion mod is starting:

An EV Nova mod has been going on for a while:

And I've started one, but I'm not accepting help yet. Though I've had an offer that I'll be taking up shortly.

@Guywhowantsafireflyofhisown:

Dream all you want, but just think of this.

Would the Wright brothers dream of flying have succeeded if all they did was talk?

How about Martin Luther King's dream?

Basically, dreams don't happen without people willing to do the work.

I have listed three projects, and I know that the Oblivion one is accepting help (I imagien the EV Nova one as well). So, if you want something, anything to happen, start helping that/those project(s) in any way you can.

After all, it's the only way any of this is going to enter reality.

I have had some ideas floating around in my head for a while. The only problem stems from HOW IN THE 'VERSE do you capture the true essence of the game without bottom loading the player sides. Most fans will flock to the Independants or neutrals. Die Hard PvPers will of course flock to the Alliance for their added technical edge.

If anyone is interested in seeing some of the ideas that I've put on paper, let me know.
