I recently informed the SoCal browncoat community of southern california about Serenity Day, which started a thread. It was suggested that we all buy through the link here at fireflyfans.net and then, if we could get the moderators to agree, donate most of the earnings through commission to Equality Now as well. I know there was a thread about not buying from only Amazon, but it was also brought up that buying from the ma and pop stores might not be recorded as sales. Im not saying not to, but it would be nice to get some feedback on this idea.

Well, I just saw in the other thread there's a Serenity Day site being set up. Why not run it there?

Given the sig of the person who started this thread, I think they're aware of said day.

It's a good idea. In fact, it's an excellent idea. A most excellent idea.

I'd very much like to see the conflict between these two paralell events reconciliated, if not resolved. I think it's creating confusion, and for me, much uneasiness.

Who would we have to talk to about donating proceeds? Amazon? Is it likely (i.e. is there a precedent...not that that's likely to stop an effort!)?

And anyone brought it to Kaele?

Not that anyone asked, but I'm throwing my 2-1/2 cents in here anyway.

My guess is that Haken loses money every day on this website as it is. Just keeping it running is an act of Browncoat charity. I would not feel comfortable asking him to turn around and give the small funds he earns from click-through sales to another charity. What he gives and to what charity is his business, not mine.

While supporting the Equality Now charity is a very worthy cause, you make an excellent point about the cost it takes to keep this website going.

Since so many of us use this website, and it's providing a vital connection for fans, and been instrumental in organizing the charity screenings and the DVD campaign, we really need to throw some coin Haken's way. The reason for clicking through to Amazon through this site is to contribute to supporting it.

Supporting this website is also a very worthy cause.
