I'd very much like an official shirt design for Serenity day (I loves me some shiny shirts!).
But here's the thing - they'd be brown. Brown shirts. Brownshirts, dong ma? Here we go again...

I was thinking about that earlier today, Agatsu.
Shirts with "Serenity Day" (or whatever the heck the vote is for this hour...) and JUNE 23 in big letters across the chest- and believe me, I have a big enough chest to advertise it! :D

No objections because of the BROWN SHIRTS?
If the slogan is on there somewhere, we're in analogy country again. But with the Serenity logo and al the other stuff on the shirt, it shouldn't be a problem, right?
I wants me a shiny Serenity Day shirt!

Btw, I ordered 2 Firefly shirts from the States yesterday, one is a light blue with a dark blue "Blue Sun logo" (hands of blue, shoobeedoo) and the other one is a brown one with the Independents logo on the front and "We've done the impossible / and that makes us mighty" written around it.
Shinyyyyyyyyy!
I'm also gonna get some of Jayne's shirts soon. I like it when merchandise has an authentic feel to it. I think something like that is always cooler than a shirt with a logo on it, and it's not so fanboyish. Although, if you think about it, it's even more fanboyish to wear an authentic shirt, but only other fans will notice, anyways, so muhahahahahahaahahahahahahaha!
But for the Serenity Day Shirt, I want one that says exactly that on it. Authentic would be too militaristic (and brownshirtish) in this case, anyways.

I bought my son one of the "official" Serenity shirts from Ebay. Brown with the Serenity logo. I was afraid he wouldn't like it - now I can't get him to take it off long enough to wash it. As long as it is a warm brown SHINY!

I am currently finishing up a couple designs for the June 23rd. However, the biggest issue I have is finding a company (like Cafepress) where it can be available to all but be BROWN. Does anybody know where a company similar to Cafe Press might be with Brown shirts. Also, if you are posting images through the net to create stuff, remember that the quality of the graphics will go strait to hell. The best you can hope for is prob around 85% maintained quality.

Knock yourselves out. I already told that seller that we're planning something for June 23rd and that it wouldn't be a bad idea to restock and come up with some new designs.
Note the note that says: NOTE! Do not buy this shirt here, go to my eBay shop and buy it there! It is much cheaper!, because, well, it's cheaper.
I guess now that a few of you may order from him as well, he might even take me seriously. Maybe he could make those shiny Serenity Day shirts for us, who knows. The shirts and printing quality seem top notch, judging by the photos, and they're not expensive (about 20 bucks I think). But I'll have to wait for my delivery before I can recommend him.

And in regards to the Brownshirt analogy- a brown t-shirt looks nothing like a Nazi uniform. Thank heavens. :)
Someone did a run of brown t-shirts that say "I'm a Browncoat" on them... who was it? Where was it? Someone must have brown t-shirts!

I can toss my hat (and business) into the ring. I still haven't seen the logo or anything but if we keep it simple I know I could turn out a one or two color shirt on BROWN ONLY for under ten bucks if we have enough people willing to order. 25 to 50 would be good but the more the better.

Someone point me to the design!

Go with Quality Logo Products.com. I work for them (and I'm also a customer), and they have outstanding quality shirts. The only problem is that they're not available through the site - someone would have to order them in bulk and then sell them via website with a Paypal link or the like.

However, I can guaranteee quality, quick delivery and friendly, competent workers.

Oh man, looks like some tough business decisions will have to be made.
So what's more important to you guys? Quality or price? I'd be happy to pay a bit more for a really shiny shirt, myself.
Then again, whoever isn't happy with the quality can just download the logo and have it printed on a shirt for themselves, so no sweat.

Ok, I think we are missing the point here. The purpose is to get the word out. To say that I can't print a QUALITY SHIRT for under 10 bucks is kinda mean. I'm not looking to profit from this. As a mass statement the shirts and stuff in general should be IDENTICAL so when the general public takes notice of all the items they will start to think that they have seen all this before.

Basic business MARKETING is not to be confused with ADVERTISING! They are two separate ways of generating buzz about your product/cause. In general look at the way Firefly, Serenity and Slither were ADVERTISED. Most spots on TV were skewed to mass appeal and really as a whole did not convey the actual property. This is fine if you are looking to hit and run -take what money you make and move on. Firefly was never MARKETED after it's debut - thus the poor return on the little advertising that was done and.... cancelation.

So first, we need to MARKET our cause. A "branding" that is recognizable from a distance. Same color, same style. Hmmm, Browncoat..... brown shirt...... well, that seems pretty easy. Since we are a group of individuals, we do not have deep pockets that some big business would have to force feed the BRANDING into our brains and make the general public WANT to know who, what, why and such. In order to get our message out, we need to make ALL items affordable so that everyone can get their hands on something to further the cause but, it needs to be a CONSISTENT message!

In order to make the BRAND consistent, things need to be consolidated to a central location. We have the website for that now. Very good start. Now, we need to MARKET that branding. The best brand/logos are usually the simplest. i.e. - Coke, Chevrolet, Ford, General Mills (the big G). Something that can be seen and recognized from a distance. Something that you don't have to think about - it just clicks in your brain. Over complicate the BRANDING and the unfamiliar folk will gloss over the details of who, what, why and such and the MARKETING will be a failure and you are left with just ADVERTISING to get your point across.

When you are watching TV, do you pay attention to the commercials? Ever see the SAME 15 second commercial run two or thee times in the same break? That is how ADVERTISING works, force feed your message over and over until it sticks. Do we have that number of folk or the money to do this? No. If we did, we wouldn't have to do this campaign - word of mouth would have us back on the air or in a theater.

We have a SHORT time to get this done. A quality affordable and consistent product will garner more attention and demand than some high priced item that has a ton of colors and costs a days pay. It's a numbers game. Do you want a fancible shirt to watch re-runs in or do you want to get the word out to as many folk in the Verse as possible?

Just my two cents.

Sorry, must have been a misunderstanding. My statement wasn't a direct response to your kind offer (no sarcasm), but a general question. I'm aware that t-shirts that are supposed to advertise something do their job when they just look new and shiny for one day - I'm just a fan of shirts that last and are comfy, and I feel awkward wearing shirts with a stiff print on them. I was also planning on proudly wearing that shirt on many, many occasions after Serenity Day.
So I didn't mean to disrespect you in any way, I was merely asking what the general opinion on this matter is. No offense.

EDIT: For the record, I would have ordered an Independent Army shirt from you 2 days ago if it were still available in medium.

That's fine, sometimes it's hard to judge where stuff is coming from and I have been takin' a few hits here and on other boards in regards to my wears. I wouldn't mind so much if it was from folk who have actually ordered from me, such is life.

Now, the "comfy" factor. We can do a huge print on both sides of the shirt and still keep it soft and flexible. Quoting our favorite Captain, "It's what I do darlin'. It's what I do". Your wanting an Independents t-shirt is a fine example of that. It's a big print with a lot of ink. The process and design is set up to be SOFT from the beginning, and it is. Plus, it only gets softer the more you wash it. Things can be done to make it feel good from the get go without compromising quality and durability.

The four or five that I wear have held up GREAT the last six months. I put that into everything I do. The purpose of this marketing is to have the BIG PUSH for one day but we still need to spread the word after the 23rd. If we design a shiny shirt and don't pigeon hole it with the year 2006 I garauntee you can wear this thing for next years Serenity Day.

B-T-W, I do have one or two Mediums in stock. I pull stuff from the site when stock gets low to avoid over selling and makin' folk wait for re-runs. Drop me an eMail and I can PP invoice you if ya still want one.

I'd go with a brownshirt from bluemoonstuff.

The stuff they do is great, affordable, comfy, washes well, good quality and generally looks great. Plus he's got the shop all set up so it'll be easy for anyone (no matter what side of the globe) to get hold of a SHINY browncoat/Serenity shirt.

Just my opinion. Please, please, please. Need one now! *stamps foot and folds arms*

The star is tilted because that is the way it was in the Pilot Episode - right in the begining when Mal tears the patch off of the radio operators arm to get the codes. It is about 3 seconds long! I just love doing the stuff that only the real obsessive fans like myself will notice. The TG Freight logo was only seen a few times also so I just had to do that one.

I have four more designs that I am hoping to get out by summer that I'm sure nobody has seen at all. One of them was on the sceen for just two seconds. I'm going to do a little contest when I get that one done and give a few shirts away to whom ever can tell me where it was in the series. Should be fun!!

Any how, just sent you a PM but I need your email addy to get ya a PP invoice for the Independents on Medium. Thanks again, and don't sweat the comments from before. I know that you weren't makin' any cuts on me or my wears - we're good. Dong Ma?

Shhhhh. I'm quietly working on a Independents flag using the same artwork (less the distressed look) that is on the shirt that I sell. Right now all I have come up with is 3x6 on nylon for about 45 bucks, kinda pricey for nylon. I'm holding out for the right price on a cotton/poly flag - since most folk would just be hangin' them indoors, I figure it would be better looking on a fabric than nylon. Still checking around though so don't expect anyhthing for a spell.

Okay, so where are we on the t-shirts for Serenity Day?

Two different people said they could do it.

Do we have someone willing to spearhead this one and coordinate with Kaele, Maxrim, and our other generals to get the graphics and whats-nots?
If not, I suppose I could step up, unless Agatsu wants to, since it was his idea.

Anybody?

Giving a little bump here. I was just assuming that we already had some artwork to start with - we had enough trouble just gettin' the name picked so if we all have to decide on artwork..... I have a feeling this might not happen until Christmas. I have a few ideas of my own that I will put together but will hold out for some official word from our Generals as to what they are looking for.

It would be nice to have the design locked in by the end of the week (4/28) so that I can get it ready and burn the screens early next week for the test prints. Then, get a few pics of the actual shirt and get the order process going so we can have some of these in circulation by the 10th.

I'll try to get a page up on my website ( www.bluemoonstuff.com ) sometime tomorrow with what has been going on in this thread and any designs that our Generals have chosen or are being considered.

I think you are right to wait, especailly if you have seen the artwork that Seba has done over at the main site:
http://serenityjune23rd.com
That main graphic would make for a pretty smokin' shirt.

And it would be nice to keep the message and look as consistent as possible across all mediums imho, my 2 cents. Maybe send an email to the email address on the site and see what's up?

From what I can see in the samples it still looks like I can keep them close to what we were talking about even with printing on both sides of the shirt. I don't want to get into offering a ton of options/ colors/ styles etc. For this price I need to be very consistent across the board when I order my blanks and supplies.

Since the sample was on a white shirt, not to sound like a wet blanket, but the whole Cafe Press idea talked about previously might be a better way to go for this project. You would be able to offer the different styles of shirts that they have and thus appeal to a greater audience. I was really working under the impression that this project needed something that Cafe Press couldn't offer. I'm not backing out mind you, just voicing my opinon before things start getting hairy here.

Kaele - sent you an email yesterday with about the same stuff said above so I'm not sure if I honked you off or not.

If I'm honked off, it'd help if I knew what it meant. LOL

I'm not angry or nothin, if that's what your asking? Annoyed? Aggrivated? Nope, not those either.

Looking forward to doing something, yup. That'd be it. Just wish you'd call me, or send me your number so we can hash some things out...LOL

Yo, Blue!
Got the shirt today, absolutely shiny. Shiny feel, shiny fit (although I gotsta lose some of my love handles, I noticed. Gorram winter time!), shiny shirt quality, shiny print (it's soft, looks like it really can take its share of rides in the washer, and I love the weathered look). Shiny, shiny shiny.
And shiny stickers and notebooks for free, woohoo! "Hey look! Free soup!".

Thanks!

P.S: It would feel wrong to use the "Original Browncoat" stuff, though.
I forgot my (white) belt one day at an Aikido workshop with my sensei's seinsei, who himself was the last student living with O-sensei, the inventor of Aikido (how cool is that?), and someone could only give me his BLACK BELT for that lesson as a replacement for mine. I was so embarassed and tried to hide it as good as I could with my Hakama. I prefer the belts I earned.

Thanks for the love Agatsu! Damn straight on the "rides in the washer" thing also. I have one Independents t-shirt that has been around 'bout eight or nine months now and it looks better every washin'. I do a lot of test prints and then run 'em through real life stuff, like smugglin' jobs and gun fights, so I know that my wears will hold up. Hell, I still have the first Blue Sun t-shirt that I printed over three years ago and it isn't even close to seeing the "rag bin" anytime soon. They just get softer......

I got lots of love to give.
Thanks again! I'll try and take a picture of myself with the t-shirt on (and probably a pair of trousers) and post it here.

Uhm... yes, please add the trousers. That DOES NOT apply to all the Kaylee's, Inara's, River's and Zoe's though. Trousers are completly OPTIONAL for the women folk.
