I'ts been asked before, but forgive me for forgeting the answer.

Why not the USA Network?

They have a very intellegent and respected genre show in "Dead Zone" which seems to be getting nice ratings;

They have a high profile and highly popular original series in "Monk";

They now are commited to a weastern staring Tom Berenger who surely is not working cheap;

So how is Firefly NOT exactly the kind of show they ought to be all over?

Handled in a similar manner, it could very well put up the ratings of DZ, and with Joss' high profile name it has the "respectability" factor which the other shows are drawing from recognized actors;

Here's an excerpt from an AP article back before Monk premiered:

"When you program a cable network that aspires to reach a big, general audience, you have to hope that the broadcast networks overlook some things.
That's the case with the USA Network's two new original series, "The Dead Zone" and "Monk."
Based on a Stephen King story about a man who wakes up from a coma with the ability to see the future, "The Dead Zone" was developed for UPN but never made it on the air. USA snapped it up.
Similarly, the crime-fighting drama "Monk" was written for ABC, but never cast. When an ABC executive joined USA recently, she brought the project with her.
"I don't care where the stuff comes from," said Doug Herzog, who took over as USA Network president a year ago. "I just care about finding good projects and getting them on the air."
"The Dead Zone" on June 16 drew the highest ratings for a premiere than any other cable series in television history. "Monk" debuts Friday night at 7 MDT."

Serenity had a rating of 2.7/4.2 according to the source I'm looking at, and this after everyone knew it was going off the air and after Fox had ceased to invest anything in promotion.

Heck, that 2.7 would have put it in the top 10 cable shows this week, and I think most of us figure that's a bout the worst that ratings for Firefly could get.

What am I missing?

Yes, I know it's more expensive than these other mentioned shows to produce, but with all the sets already bought and paid for that wouldn't seen to be a MAJOR drawback.

I know it does little good to talk about it but there's no place else to go for an answer, so I move the previous question:

Why would USA Network NOT be interested in Firefly? IS there a reason beyond production costs?

Well... can we do something about this? A postcard campaign or something?

It's a great speculation, mad props to you!
Let's do something with it!

Well, the past history has been that everyone waits for word from Joss and Co. before going off on a tangent.

Sems to me the first course of action is for one of those among us with connections to Joss or Tim or whomever to inquire as to the viability of such a campaign or whether they have already tried and failed with USA or what.
Once we have that sort of information, I'm sure a campaign can be mounted. The track record of response to such calls to action is pretty good.
