I get Movie Central (the Canadian equivalent of HBO) and on one of the encore stations, they're showing the first season of HUFF. And I read on Jewel's page on imdb.com that she guested on the pilot. So I sit through and I watch it waiting in anticipation for her part.

She's in one scene where she's the wife of this brain dead guy who was supposed to die one they took away the breathing tubes, but he doesn't die. And she's pissed off that he isn't dead and she wants a divorce. So there's nothing really to latch on.

And it kinda got me thinking about our BDH's and their post FIREFLY/SERENITY careers. You'd think that on being on such a high profile franchise that their careers would be somewhat bigger now than before. But aside from Nate, I guess they're all in that "guest star/genre" ghetto that's so hard to bust out of. I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't mind them being in something non-genre. Not Shakespeare or anything too fancy schmancy. But like an indie flick or an HBO show or something to prove their legitimacy as actors. As much as they love doing conventions and all that, I don't think they'd be wanting to do them for the rest of their lives or to be saddled doing guest bits on genre shows.

I realize that this sounds like badmouthing, but we all know the potential all these guys and gals have and we all want them in parts as satisfactory as the roles that endeared them to us. And I think the best way to do that is to move away from that kind of stuff.

One of my goals for this summer is to write my first real screenplay. Something that I can submit to an agent and see if it gets me work. And if it does, and I actually have enough leverage to cast whoever I want for like some cheap indie or something like that, I'm determined to get at least one of the BDH's in it. I figured, hey, instead of waiting till I'm blue in the face for SERENITY 2 or THE NEW ADVENTURES OF FIREFLY or whatever that might never come, write or make my own damn movies for them to be in. It'd be easier.

So what do you guys think?

"There's only one "Return" ok, and it ain't "of the King", it's "of the Jedi."

"Maybe we should start calling your friend 'Padme' because he loves 'Mannequin Skywalker' so much, Right? (imitating robot) Danger...danger...my name is Anakin...my shitty acting is ruining saga."

Excerpt of internet teaser for CLERKS 2.

Sounds like a cunning plan that cannot fail.

Seriously, I really hope it works out, and that you get the perfect BDH for the role.

I don't disagree on any particular point.
