British and bitter...

I watched Firefly last week when it first aired in Britain on the Sci-Fi channel - and I thought it was absolutely brilliant...

Although I'm a big fan of Joss Whedon's other shows Buffy and Angel I didn't really know much about his latest - and it wasn't until the day after it aired here that I went on the web to get some more info - and that was when I found out it had been cancelled...

What was the problem? No 'Aliens' (people with slightly different foreheads / ears)?

No-one going back in time (either 1945 or mid-late 90's as a rule) every other episode and making wry comments about fashion, dishing out moral tales about the environment, or both?

It gets to me that original, compelling shows like this get cancelled while shows like Star Trek not only run and run - but generate newer, even more pointless spin-offs...

Apologies to any Star Trek fans but like the subject line says I'm bitter. And..err..British.

I'm beginning to think that maybe it's me - I really enjoyed 'Space - Above and Beyond' and they ditched that after 1 or 2 seasons. 'Birds Of Prey' debuted here on CNX roughly the same time as Firefly, which, although not in Firefly's league is better than most of the rubbish on T.V. these days - and I just read that Warner Bros. are cancelling that too...

I just hope it gets made into a film some time down the line...

the problem boiled down to poor promotion and a bad time spot which meant less people watched which means less advertising dollars made by the network.

Welcome to the party. You did miss the great wave of bitterness against the stupidity of Fox executives, the ratings systems and the world in general when the show was cancelled. Do feel free to rage against the dying of the light though, because the vast majority here are in full agreement.

We British get everything late, good shows and bad news...

I can only hope that Firefly does indeed fly again - but at the moment the only way I can see that happening is if it's retooled as:

(a) a 'reality' show in which the crew of Serenity (suitably replaced by a bunch up wash-ups) face both the hardships of space, and a weekly public vote to see who is shot out of the airlock...

or

(b) a 'makeover' show in which the crew of Serenity (suitably replaced by a bunch up wash-ups) bring velour drapes and / or a splash of colour to newly terra-formed planets...

Grrrrrrrrr....

Anyway - in other news, does anyone know where I could get a decent picture of the decal that is on Serenity's hull? I mean the WW2 Bomber nose art style pic of the scantily-clad reclining lady (Serenity?)

Thanks in advance for any help you could give me on this.

It's the third from last picture. That's the only place I've seen that pic. The picture is of the original Serenity model(the boxy one). The Serenity model used in the series is more streamline. It doesn't have that on it anymore. Which is sad cuz that added to its character.

Thanks Talrius, that's the one - although I did get sidetracked checking out the Morena Baccarin pictures!

It's a shame they didn't use the emblem / decal on the ship we see on the show though because it is a nice touch.
