Everyone but Gina, from what I understand.

Looking forward to meeting you, FollowMal!

It would be a kick to give YOU a browncoat, in person no less!

I was over 50 last year for Flan I -- and that was my first con ever. There were plenty of us "touch of gray" types there, besides me, so don't hold back on that account.

Hi, PR, of course I know you

Got a BDP this year, woohoo! Almost missed it but just barely squeezed in the back door

There are3 a BUNCH of us from the "other" board going, i can NOT wait to meet all of you! Of course we did t-shirts so we'd recognize each other, I guess I'll just have to walk up to all the attendees and go "Hi. Are you from FFF.net"?

Or come say hi to the person in the tan Mal looking at Firefly for the first time comic print by mphillips shirt....who has BelowZero on the shoulder...

Hey Browncoats, don't forget to pack away some money for shiny Firefly stuff in the dealers room. I have it on good authority that the "Lanyard Lady" from DragonCon will be there with the Browncoat lanyards and pins and maybe some new stuff. And don't forget ShinyHappyKlin's awesome t-shirts and stuff.

Well I know some actors don't like to make a commitment for more than 6 months out from an event. It makes them less likely to cancel, so now that we are less than 6 monthes out I think we will see a few more announcements about the guest line-up growing.

I was vaguely thinking about popping over to LA for the convention (not to make out that I have vaste pots of money, but it's a good excuse to visit some family) then I saw how expensive it was !!! Horrific!

plus only "eligible to buy photo ops, cocktail and banquet tickets"! Gorram - does that just get you in the door?

And to think we seem to get all that (ok minus a few guests) for just £80 at Serenity Cubed.

I can't believe they can get away with that. It's playing on people's passion for the series - well out of order if you ask me.

Out of line? No. Seriously misinformed? Yeah.

What did people get at last year's Flan? Eight of the nine principle cast members. Plus the Feldman twins, plus Christina Hendricks, plus Jonathan Woodward (and his Sunday morning church service) plus Tim Minear, plus Joss Whedon, plus James Leary, Camden Toy and Dennis Christopher. Plus Andy Hallett at the Karaoke dance. If you're interested in reading about the Flanvention, check out these articles from IGN & IF:

You can also check out a report on the Flan in the March Buffy/Angel magazine. (I think it was March- anyway, early 2006.) If you doubt our devotion to providing excellent fan festivals to fellow fans, you might also want to check out the Dec/Jan 2005-6 for a write up of our Booster Bash.

http://www.ifmagazine.com/feature.asp?article=1388

BE has raised and donated thousands of dollars to Equality Now (and tens of thousands for various charities), as well as donated approximately 15 weekend passes for various Browncoat organizations raising money for charity, it makes the assertion we're playing fans sound darned silly.

BE was formed to celebrate actors, fans and the special connection between the two. With attendance limited to 500 and our huge line-ups and great activities, plus our many surprise guests and events, everyone gets their money's worth.

woah! ok, fair enough! I'm sure it's an amazing event, I'm not knocking that.

It's great they donate to charity too, but in a way I think it's a shame they can't use some of those profits to reduce the ticket prices; I just feel sorry for all the people who can't afford that much.

It's impossible to reduce ticket prices and hire that many headliners & second tier guests. We specifically pack our line-ups to give our attendees a huge bang for their buck.

I'm sure that it is an amazing event. I would kill to go. But what I think Leaina is trying to say is that many Browncoats can't afford that kind of thing, especially considering the ones that will have to fly out just to get to Flanvention. I'm trying to make it out to DragonCon, and even though it's in Atlanta (I'm in Michigan), paying for everything is going to be a major stretch of the billfold.

No matter how you price an event, it will be out of reach for some and a drop in the bucket to others.

For those in the middle, it all boils down to: is it worth it to you? If so, then go if you can -- and look for ways to control costs, like room sharing, frequent flier miles, or skipping some of the photo ops.

If not, seek out other, less costly ways to celebrate all things Firefly. There are other cons, mechandise of every imaginable kind, shindigs with other Browncoats in your area, and the absolutely free bliss of FFF.net.

Those of us fortunate enough to be able to afford the Flanvention will be happy to share our experiences with you... although some probably find that more frustrating than fun. In any case, last year I (and at least one other attendee) posted daily reports here about the doings. I'll certainly be willing to do the same again this year.

Are these luncheon tickets sold out as well or is this the first time we're hearing about them?

How do you 'normally' get tickets like this? Do they come with those super expensive admission tickets, sold separately, only sold via ebay?

I've never been to a convention that does this sort of thing so forgive all my questions!

Most likely they will be sold out. The only way to get the luncheon ticket is through their ebay auctions. I think you need at least a weekend pass to bid on a luncheon ticket but I'm not sure. You might want to try emailing Vicki or Denise at boosterevents.com. They should be able to answer all of your questions. I'm just worried I might give you incorrect or incomplete information.

And if you haven't been to this type of convention, you might want to think about going. The FLAN was awesome! So there will be high expectations about FLAN 2, being awesomer!!

No problem with the questions. I'll try my best to answer them but like I said, it's best to email Vicki or Denise or even PM them. Or you might want to post your question on the booster board in the FLAN2 forum for a quick response. I just don't want you to miss out on something because of incorrect information that I might have given you.

Since you already have a Flan ticket, you should be able to bid on the luncheon.

the banquet (tickets for which were sold at their website) is different from
the luncheon (which is much smaller and tickets are only available through eBay and will end up costing a fortune)...

don't worry about not getting to go to the luncheon though,
it would be cool but you'll get to meet everyone in the autograph line,

>the banquet (tickets for which were sold at their website) is different from

Yeah, I have absolutely no intention of paying that astronomical ebay amount for those tickets. The cost to get into the convention is plenty high enough.

>don't worry about not getting to go to the luncheon though, it would be cool but you'll get to meet everyone in the autograph line, AND they will all be on stage for Q&A (think up some cool questions to ask!)

Oh, I'm not worried about not being able to go. I was just curious as to what it was since I'd never heard of it.

>I've got tickets to it too! I hope to meet up w/folks from fff while I'm there

Oh, great! A bunch of friends and I will be having a room party on Sat night so I'm looking forward to that almost as much as the convention itself.

Hi everybody!

I'm Yann (F, age 36) from NYC and only recently got into Firefly - watched Serenity the movie in the theatres and had to get the Firefly DVD.

Watched 'done the impossible' and now I'm a confirmed fan - so I'm gonna do whatever I can to get a vacay from this bughouse I work in, get an outfit together (companion? browncoat? citizen?) and see y'all at the Flan!

I'm not with the official welcoming party (they have food); but, the least I can do is say, "Glad you're here, friend!"

Note to self: Must edit and post something about Flanvention II.

EDIT: My note worked.

Be nice if there was some way to measure one's love and devotion for Firefly and use that as currency.

Sorry to hear that the finances aren't working out.

Oh, and Yann -- costumes are entirely optional. No need to spend a lot of effort on that, unless of course you want to.

thanks for the welcome, y'all!

Yeah - costumes are fun but it might just be fun to blend in too :) And as far as credits is concerned, Mal said it best in the pilot:

"You're right, though. The last two
jobs we had were weak tea. We got
nothing saved, takin' on passengers
won't help near enough.

We don't get paid for this cargo, we
don't have enough money to fuel the
ship, let alone keep her in repair.
She'll be dead in the water."

Just like that one fan in 'Done the Impossible', I have yet to watch the 14th episode, just to keep it 'fresh' somehow... :)

But I'll be writing Universal (in a supportive, mature and non-attacky way) about this great series! - Winner of the Hugo and the Nebula - Firefly / Serenity!

See you at the Flan!
