Does anybody know where I can get a 3 shot of Serenity? Or who I could contact to get one generated.

I"m talking blueprints of the Model used in the show, or very close shots of it.

I"m a hobby 3d artist and have been -very- interested in re-creating the model for personal/public use. However I"ve found less then no shots of it.

Thanks guys.

Don't know about the 3-shot thing, but there's no model. All CGI.

All I can offer you is some relatively good screencaps from the eps in bmp format if you're interested. That's the only way you'll be able to build a model. Unless I missed something?

ya thanks, I guess that will have to do.

I"m going to try and contact the CGI place that created the model, maby they will be good enough to generate the shots, its not unheard of places doing that so we will see lol.

I love this show, and I -really- love the Serenity, such a cool design.

Hey,

Hope you don't mind me asking but why did you choose that handle? I use Damoclese on the Fox board and I'm curious why you choose it. Just curious here.

Later,

ME.

Hey, I'd be very eager to see what kind of results you come up with. I've been thinking of trying to tackle an actual (physical) model of Serenity, but resources are scarce. I'm not even entirely certain I have enough to block out the rough shape.

Best of luck to you!

The "Blueprint Conundrum..." seemed to deal primarily with the interior of Serenity and this one with the exterior.

What I have been doing is to go through the entire series and the movie, doing stills on my computer of the various angles of the ship. In the Special Features on Disc Four of the series, It has a piece called "Serenity, the 10th Character." They do a full screem side-view, blueprint line drawing, which adds to the info I'm gathering.

The ship is 190 feet in length, so one can figure the other diomentions from there. Takes a bit of geometry and trig to work it out, but one could get all the dimentions to build a rather accurate model, if one has that skill.

One could build it using styrene and acrylic plastic parts sold it a good hobby store. Lights can be installed in the appropiate and it would be very easy to have a rotating disc that's seen in the front of the engine section. It's very easy, but will be time consuming and could be expensive, depending on what features you want to add, such as retracting landing pads, a cargo door that opens and shuts, and rear engine panels that will open. Gears, motors and everything you'de need is in a hobby store and Radio Shack. It will be a rather fun project.

I found this, hope it helps (should do, looks bitching) has high def cgi pics of bottom, top, side, front and back veiws of the shpi we all know and love, plus cut away interior maps of side and plan view, both decks. Sadly no dimentions but this is probably the next best thing to blueprints

Hope it helps!

I seem to recall there is a discussion thread somewhere that covered the development of a Lightwave generated model of the ship. It even had intermediate pix of its development. I'm a relatively new user in this discussion board and haven't mastered the search feature to find it (I have it bookmarked but on a different machine).

I, too, am interested in getting my hands on a model of this specifically for developing a physical model of the ship. I use Bentley's MicroStation product to read the model geometry. There are Lightwave to 3DS converters so my plan is to "beg" for the model and, using a cool built-in MicroStation feature, generate several accurate cross sections of the model and essentially build ribs like an RC airplane wing or fuselage (I've built my share of these). Skinning the skeleton could be tricky but not impossible. The best thing is I can build it to any scale I want using this technique (hmmm, how's 1 meter sound?)

As an alternative to this method but one that limits its size is to create the proper geometry needed to go out for development into a rapid prototype model (aka stereo lithography)then using a tried and true modeling technique generate a hollow resin model of the results. A little airbrushing including simulation of the wear and tear on the ship and I'll have a nice model to hang in my Sci-Fi themed media room.

Of course, the biggest problem is carving out enough time in my schedule to do all this...

Y'know, there's a truly amazing FREE spaceflight simulator called ORBITER...
http://www.orbitersim.com
...which has more realistic physics (and is more expansive) than anything I've seen available commercially!

A talented individual named Jon Marcure has been creating vessels from popular science fiction.

"Serenity" update continued BIG pictures
http://orbit.m6.net/v2/read.asp?id=27546

He accidentally deleted the directory with his WIP shots, so his images don't start until page 8.

Fortunately, I saved a couple of the early ones...

His earlier version, an "Ought 2" called the "Freefall", is in the background.

He's even created a smaller variant, called the "Sport Model"...

does anyone know what that little room under the bridge is for?

you can see the door leading to it in any episode (out of gas sticks out in my mind, the scene where wash is introduced, when mal and zoe talk in the hall you can see the door clear as day because of the lighting)

as far as i can tell, they never use that room.

originally, i just thought it led to the lower part of the bridge, where the commentaries say the lounge used to be, but the side-view blueprints make it look as if it's its own room. with windows?

My 3D Studio Max (untextured) model can be found here.

You can use it however you wish, just give me credit and I wouldn't mind seeing what you do with it.

The little room under the cockpit? It's used for ... well, it's actually to give the cameramen somewhere to stand, but it can also be used as a place for Wash or River to get some downtime while the ship's on autopilot :)

Yeah, that room is called "Ten-Forward" right? In one of the commentaries in the Firefly DVD set (War Stories I believe) it was mentioned that in the early stages of the show there was a couch down there but that was changed to a bunch of shipping containers. Pity, I kinda liked the idea of a sleeper couch for that special married couple to play in when everyone's asleep. Could've made for some interesting escapades had the show continued!
