HI,
There have been threads about Mal's pistol, and Jaynes machinegun Vera, but no one has brought up Jaynes Knife. Ya' see, afew weeks ago I started thinking about making a knife. I was originaly thinking of modelling it after the Rambo First Blood: Part I knife. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, theres a picture of all three rambo knives at http://www.swordsdirect.com/rambo_knives.html. Then on one episode of Firefly, Jayne took his knife out and I desided to try to make one like it. The problem is I can't find any good pic's of it. It looked kindof like the Rambo First Blood: Part III knife except mabey with a different handle. If anyone could post some pic's of Jayne's knife, or one like it, that would be great.

Also, I hate to open up a can of worms, especialy since this ones been opened so many times already. But does anyone have any idea about Mal's gun? I have heard everything from "it was a Taurus .38 'CIA' model 5-shot revolver" to it was a single shot to it was custom made by the prop company. Now, I think if some one wanted to get a gun simalar to it but that actauly works, I have one idea. You might be able to take an old WWII Mauser pistol, either the C-90 or the M712. Afterall, it has a magazine in front of the trigger gaurd instead of in the handle. It wouldn't be Mal's pistol, but you could probably buy one of resin paint-and-assemble-it-yourself kits of Mal's pistol and put some of the parts on to the Mauser. That would be for looks only probably becouse if you did replace the barrel with the one from the kit you would have some pretty bad problems. Any whays this is just an idea that i had, probly wouldn't work, but if it did, and you used the fully automatic version of the M712, you would have some pretty serrious firepower and an intimidating weapon!

Hi Mac!

You can find some decent photos of Jayne's bowie knife on my website:

It is a Rough Rider brand RR225 Patrick Henry commemorative bowie knife with a custom made sheath. The knife seems to be out of production since the only distributor has had them on backorder for at least three months now, though you may still be able to get one from Smokey Mountain Knife Works.

Afraid I can't tell you much on Mal's gun except that my understanding is that it was a real revolver encased in a metal "shell" that completely changed it's appearance. I don't think you could do much with the resin kits that are out there currently since they are basicly a solid chunk of resin in the shape of Mal's gun (the only real "parts" in the kit are two knobs that have to be glued on).

Edited to add: Be sure to click on the "Other Stuff" link at the top of the page - there you'll find a template of the knife if you really want to try your hand at creating a replica yourself.

You've got the light...from the console...keep you, lift you up. They shine like...little angels...zzzzzzzzzzzz.

My life just got easier, except for the fact that the peice of steel I have is about 20 feet long so I can't really get it on the chopsaw, but thanks A BUNCH for the pictures!!!

The Leslie Nielsen aproach to Law Enforcement:

Mayor: Now Drebin, I don't want any trouble like you had on the South Side like last year, that's my policy.
Frank: Well, when I see five weirdos dressed in togas, stabbing a man in the middle of the park in front of a full view of 100 people, I shoot the lunatics, that's my policy.
Mayor: That was a Shakesphere In The Park Production of Julius Caesar, you moron! You killed five actors! Good ones!
