Okay, I just watched the movie for the first since who knows when (the eps have been enough recently), but I have to ask, what were all those dream sequences River was having all about. I figure they're kind of open to interpretation. Or, are they? I've watched the movie at least ten times now and i'm still perplexed by all these surreal little dream sequences.

I think that her dreams where her trying to sort the information that was buried in her mind.

As for her classmates I have a suspicion that they are her former school chums still locked at Blue Sun. Who knows maybe they made some sort of telepathic Uni-mind to warn her that things where coming to a head.

Just saying.

Well, the first one is pretty much an easy way of introducing people who haven't seen the show to the 'verse, and to River. As for the rest of her dreams, I'm with Bookie (can I call you Bookie?) Each one helped River remember what happened on Miranda, piece by piece, so it wouldn't destroy her mind completely.

Are the kids the others still trapped at Blue Sun? Interesting idea! Not one I'd thought of before.

With a cool name like that you can call me anything you want Kimosabe.

Actually the thought of those other kids stuck in the tender cares of Blue Sun saddens me a bit. Because you just know that Rivers escape only acclerated the program.

The problem with the war against Jihad is that it was around a thousand years before the Bush administration. And it will be around a thousand year after it. Bad ideas tend to do that, stick around.

They're all too young to have been her Academy colleagues -- River went to the Academy when she was 14, remember?

Actually, it's possible that she was remembering a class when she was younger (she seems to be around 6/7 years old) and perhaps the whole Miranda issue got mixed up in that memory, so what she'd gleaned of Miranda was buried in her psyche and mixed with another memory of hers. Remember she first experienced the classroom memory when she was in the Academy, in the movie, before the whole Miranda debacle came to the surface when she was triggered. We really don't understand how River's mind works (e.g. Objects in Space, where what she saw was not what was real, at least concerning the twig/gun, for example), so mental confusion is to expected and memories tangling with one another.

That's what I think, at least.

If you were to take the novelization as somewhat canon, this episode is described as a genuine memory of her earlier education, which River recalls during the robbery to keep herself entertained while Mal and co are out stealing stuff. :)
