She would be excellent.....but I thought Joss said someone younger (early 20s maybe?).

She is beautiful and tough (and an excellent actress)....what more could you ask for? She would definitely look good in the outfit (my husband certainly wouldn't complain if it were Gina.)

I read somewhere that Lindsay Lohan really wanted to be Wonder Woman. NOT!

Gina would be great and Morena is my second choice

yes, we all love Gina Torres and we all want to see her do well. Her caharacter in Firefly is definitly in the same group as Wonder Woman, but I don't think she would make the ideal Wonder Woman, nor would I like to see her as Wonder Woman, for one reason, and one reason only. Wonder Woman is white, Gina Torres is not. Does this make me racist? No. I love Gina Torres, but I also love my comics. I wouldn't want to see a spanish superman, even though I like spanish actors.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to get all huffy and puffy over this post, even though there is no reason to. I'm not racist, or hold some grudge against anyone, to stay loyal to the character of Wonder Woman, you can't cast Gina Torres, even though we all love her.

There, get your flames out of the way.

but WHY is Wonder Woman white? Because she always has been?

If you are a comic fan then you KNOW that the Kingpin is white. Always has been white. Unless you saw the movie DareDevil. Now you know that Michael Clark Duncan is the Kingpin. There is no-one better for that role... whatever race they happen to be.

Let's not be closed minded just for closed-mindedness' sake.

I suppose she could be another Amazon who becomes Wonder Woman, like James Rhodes become Iron Man or John Stewart became Green Lantern.

BTW I think Gina sees herself as more of a latina than blackwoman.

Goldy, according to your...er logic, I guess every character before 1970, is to be considered "white", and could never betrayed by a person of color. The fact that you see "color" at all, makes you "racist", don't fret, most people are. I don't think I'll ever live to see the day, but one day man will only acknowledge the only "race" that matters, not just in a "Tv" show. That is all I wanted to say about that, you may return to wallowing in your "ignorance".

The same logic goes that just because Abraham Lincoln was white, it doesn't mean that he couldn't be played by a black man if he was the better actor. Or a man couldn't play Wonder-Woman if he more embodied the role. Doing either would be moronic, as that's not who they were, or who they were designed to be. By all means, tell the story of a black president, or Wonder-Man, but don't change an already existing character to fit that mould. It doesn't make sense and there's plenty of originality to go around.

Well, I think she would be a kickass Wonder Woman, but the character is white.
Kinda lame that Kane in Kung Fu was played by a white guy(Carradine)who beat out Bruce Lee, of all people, to play the role.
The remake of the Honeymooners was a great idea, especially with Cedric the (self-proclaimed)Entertainer as Ralph.
Oh yeah, and there is a Welcome Back Kotter film in the works, and guess who is playing Kotter??

Ice Cube,......nice.

Abraham Lincoln is not a valid comparison. Abraham Lincoln is a real historic figure. It would be like casting a short fat white guy as Snoop Dogg. These are real people and, yes there is a responsibility to prtray real people as they really are or were.

News Flash!

Wonder Woman is a fictional character. Somebody made that character up. She could just as easily have been ice-queen from Norway, but she wasn't... She was an Amazon Princess. Now, whatever amazon origin mythos you prescribe to, they may be portrayed as greek, persian, scythian, or other... but not caucasion... until fairly recent times.

So what we have is a mis-representation of the legend to start with. It would be akin to creating a comic book character based on the Irish legend of Cú Chulainn and drawing him as a pacific islander... then 50 years from now being up in arms when someone suggests an asian person playing the part in a movie remake. Neither is true to to the original legend...

Is it right? Is it wrong? I don't know. I'm just saying let's not automatically rule Gina out because Marvel was lilly-white back in the day, and because she doesn't look like Lynda Carter.

Movies really screw things up on a regular basis. I mean lwts just take X-Men, great movie, but my god what did they do to Rogue. Not to mention that Mystic is Rogue "mom" and Nightcrawlers real mother. I mean things are changed for movie sakes.

And you're saying that responsibility isn't there with fictional characters? Because I feel it is. Very much so. Why does a real person deserve to be portrayed correctly, but there's no responsibility to a creator to portray their creation as originally intended?

You're right when you say Wonder Woman is an amazon princess, but she's not designed to be true to our universe's legends. She's a part of the DC universe, which has its own laws and histories and doesn't prescribe to the non-white origins you mention.

If this were a parody of Wonder Woman, then the writer/director has carte blanche to do what they want with the characters and the universe. But this isn't a parody, it's not a re-imagining, it's not even a movie inspired by the character of Wonder Woman. It's the movie of Wonder Woman, and as such the character deserves as much respect as any living person.

I'd have to say no, because Wonderwoman was white, and because of the costume. Gina's too dignified to wear it. (That's not in the sense of too full of herself - I mean it just wouldn't suit the general cool she's always chucking out.)

I've never seen her in anything except her Zoe togs, and I'm not sure I care to.

Even the dress at the end of Serenity didn't look quite right - or in fact was exactly right. You know when you see soldiers wearing civvies?

Folks,

None of you have seen Gina in Cleopatra 2525? A younger version of the Zoe we know and love. The program was a little campy, but serious fun for Gina fans (me):) I do agree with you though, Marston created the character as a white woman, black hair, blue eyes. While minor modification in the uniform or hair style is acceptable, you can't change who she is, it wouldn't make sense.

I don't know, she was pretty scantily clad in Cleopatra 2525 and on occassion as Andromeda in Hercules the Legendary Journeys oh and as Cleopatra on Xena

(sorry it's not the best pic)

What I'd like is to hear her sing. I read somewhere that she majored in vocal in high school.

Yeah Indy, Bruce should have had the lead in the show he created. I haven't seen the new "Honeymooners", is it funny? As far a "Gina" being too dignified, she just bared her arse on national tv, and according to Vick Mackey she taste like "Sweet butter".
