Hehehe. I would hope he feels the same about our lost hour of Firefly.

(interviewer) What should fans do now that they’ll have an extra hour free in their schedule?

(Joss Whedon) What should they do with that hour? Write fan fic.

This is from the about.com interview with Joss about the end of Buffy. Sorry if it's already been posted, didn't see it anywhere.

It's a-comin'. Radegund and Channain haven't posted a whole heck of a lot, so their voices aren't as sharp as I'd like.

But: much conflict, maybe some smooching and a new character or three

I doubt that he does, though he may want to. If any fanfic/plot ideas ever resemble any episode/movie/book Joss comes up with, then the authors of the fanfic could legally challenge Joss as the originators of that story idea and sue for compensation. They might have to prove that Joss had access to the story ideas..I don't know. So, to protect himself, he probably does not even lurk on sites that have a fanfic section, and certainly wouldn't respond to a story idea from a fan.

Joe Michael Straczynski deals with this by only participating in groups that are moderated such that any plot ideas are filtered out. The B5 fans who like to discuss "what if" scenarios or publish fanfic have separate groups where they can do that.

Joe has gotten very upset when a fan sent him an email with a story idea. No matter how good it might be, sending that story idea guarantees that the story will not be produced.

Why can't Joe Michael use the story and give credit to the author?

That just seems silly that they would deliberately cut themselves off from a good source of ideas just because they're being selfish.

No one says that the writer of the series has to be the only writer. There are several writers on board for any TV show, I'm sure that if Joss saw Sarahetc.'s work, he'd hire her away from her little museum in a heartbeat.

As much as I love JMS's work the man is basically a d**khead. Just ask anyone that has worked with him in the past. Over at the worlds of JMS site there is a link to an interview with Jerry Doyle and he really rips on him. Same with Bruce Boxlietner. They wanted to get together and work on a B5 project and JMS got pissed at them. He is a very talented writer but thinks the sun revovles around him. From what I've read about Joss he seems a little more level headed so maybe he does poke around some.

I've been planning for a couple of days to post a thread that this one seems the right place to say my piece.

I want to thank all of you who do write fanfic - you are keeping Firefly alive for us all right now. I've written my share of fic over the years, but haven't found the right piece for Firefly yet.

And whether Joss reads or doesn't (due to legal issues) we know that he appreciates that we loyal fan(atics) value his work so much that we can't let it go. So keep on writing Browncoats. We lurkers love you!

Sir yes sir!!

Well, I did post the alert that Sean would be on CSI: Miami. Just doing my part for the cause.

If it's fanfic you want, I admit most of my fanfic-generating energy has gotten sucked into the two LiveJournal-based Firefly roleplays that are going on. I have a couple of short stories posted to http://www.livejournal.com/community/ff_friday as "rivertam".

Showrunners can't and don't read fanfic, for legal reasons (same reason why they can't read unsolicited spec scripts). So nope...
