So if you had to take a gander at Firefly's chances of revival of any kind at this point, what would you guys say? As far as I can tell it seems that Firefly and Serenity both have been doing very well with the DVD sales. Is that correct? Is there any chance at all that we can ever see Firefly again on TV or in the movies?

As I said on this thread:

I think our chances are good. It is a developing franchise and in the long run will make any company willing to make an investment in it a lot of money down the road. Now we just have to find that company that is willing to make that investment. Maybe Universal will decide to continue (our best hope) or another company will come around. Either way, it isn't going to happen today or tomorrow or even next year. It'll be a few years. One reason being that many of the crew and cast are doing their own thing right now. Whedon, Fillion, and Glau are doing other movies and I'm sure the rest are as busy. I'm sure all of them will want to come back to the franchise. It was just as much their love that created Serenity as ours. Another reason is that the industry is going to sit back and watch this franchise grow and I'm sure it is going to grow. If they see it grow then they will definitely see the potential in it for them to make some money.

I'm going to say it may be 5 years before anything new is put together. It'll allow time for the franchise to grow and for initial investments to make a shiny dime and for the crew and cast to explore other areas in their careers. Hopefully at that time the franchise will have more popular appeal and the crew and cast will be more known then they are now.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

The Series DVD did exceedingly great; got us the movie it did! But, the movie and it's DVD haven't done much better than breaking even.

So, I don't expect any more FF/Serenity.

Part of me is sad, part of me is happy about this. But, all of me is disappointed.

I think we'll see more movies and the announcement of the second one maybe by the end of this year and on the screen by late 2008. It makes sense to make another while the fan base is expanding and not wait for the fans to get too frustrated and leave.

I rather doubt the TV series will come back as the cast has gone on to other TV opportunies and movies. It would be very difficult to get everyone together for the length of time it takes to film a series but they are contracted for at least 2 more movies.

Movies can be made during the hiatus of TV series and for those (Nathan in particular)making movies it would be easier to schedule a movie shooting schedule.

Wow, this is exactly how I feel as well.

But I do have to say that I'm still optmistic about a sequel (even if I do rather want the Tv-series to return) because I think all the cast would come back for sure (well part from those sadly and wrongfully killed..) beacuse they are not the biggest stars (yet) and Joss is a great guy..

Also I felt the Serenity ending with River taking the pilot seat and all was an excellent opening.

I've had some days where I was despondent about what would happen to the 'verse, but on the days where I put on my businesswoman's hat and look at it squarely it seems obvious it will continue.

I am more than sure that the 'verse is coming back. I think it will be 3 years before the next one hits theaters or the tv screen as a miniseries or a tv movie, but it will be back. The fan base will grow and demand it. We all have to do our part and introduce this wonderful show and movie to as many people as we can.

Maybe, maybe not, time will tell. But, at the same time, I'm don't think that I want more given that I didn't like the new direction the movie took the 'Verse.

Opinions will vary though.

Yeah, I figure the fanbase can only grow. Now we've got the SciFi channel showing the reruns also, so that's always a good sign. (Not sure I know what it's a good sign of, but at least it puts the signal out there. And we all know you can't stop the signal :)

Part of me realizes that there's likely not much hope of seeing the series come back, but on the other hand you never know. Figure there's a pretty good chance of at least getting a sequel though. The BDM didn't exactly blow up the box office, but who goes to the theatre anymore, anyways? There's always DVD sales, too.

I have to think that given the Sci-fi channel's history, we're going to get a mini-series. And I personally think that it might not be a bad idea. Long enough to give us some good character development, but short enough to make it a little less risk for the producers. And I would guess that if the mini-series does well enough, they will continue the series (and hopefully stop tearing the sets down!).

I absolutely agree!! YES!!
As the fan base continues to grow it'll be a matter of time before something pulls together. Us fans will make it happen. I see so much potential these days in the likes of SciFi Channel, FX and so many others like them, and if the resurrection of BSG is any clue, then firefly/serenity fans and fellow browncoats should be assured that nothing is impossible. Believe. A mini-series would be perfect. And it's really not that far-fetched..
Look at it this way too: if there's an option for two sequels through Universal, who's to say that those wouldn't become "made-for-TV" or become a mini-series,and then go straight to DVD.. heck, NBC/Universal does BSG for SciFi, so there it is!
On a similar thought, my continuing part in promoting the 'verse has been sporting the 'official' browncoat and serenity T's, and love explaining curious folk.. and the surprise to get a shiny reaction from a complete stranger!

WHOME

I definitely see some made-for-t.v. movies in the next few years, maybe on sci-fi, probably as parts 2 and 3 of a trilogy. Firefly, the series, is gone, though. The time for it has passed, and all the actors and crew are on to other things. Going back to diong Firefly full time would be a step backwards for them.
