I have read some interesting things about this MMORPG, some disturbing stuff as well. I really would like to check it out, but not if it's over-run by cheaters, and no good pirates. It's cold out in space ya know, and nobody can hear you scream...

"I paid 14.99 a month for this bs!?!?!?!?"

AM I NOT MERCIFUL?!?!?!?

I haven't yet tried it, but there is a 14 day free trial listed here

http://www.gameogre.com/demos.htm
That is how I am going to try it to see what it is like.
Hope this helps.

"You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. 'Cause as sure as I know anything, I know this: they will try again. ...they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave." - Mal

EVE Online stole my soul for about four months or so, not so long ago. ;p

IMHO, if you're looking for a space sim, that'd be the one to go for. Also, it's a pretty nice community over there, compared to other MMO's. (There's one heck of a learning curve on that game, so be forewarned... upshot of that is that it chases away the less-mature people I think :)
Basically it's the X series/ Freelancer/ Elite type of games done online with everyone together in one shard.

Also, not the most action-packing type of game. It's strength is in it's 'realism': player-managed economy, character death, and what I always thought was an interesting PVP setup. (Space is divided into security level. Higher ones mean anyone initiated PVP will be popped by the NPC police force, lower sec is a free-for-all regulated by the players. Of course all the good minerals and such are in lowsec, so it encourages teaming up and cooperation.)

Kind of a thinking-man's game. (Be prepared to spend lots of time going between systems... the autopilot is your best friend :) Combat is more about strategy and preparation rather than twitch.

I'd still be playing, actually, but it was sucking up too much of my time. (Basic trouble with MMO's: I plan on spending an hour or so online and the next thing you know it's the next day :)

(Oh, and far as pirates go: Sort of a mixed bag. Go into their territory alone and you're likely dead. Go with a group so it's not worth their risk. Also, I've known a few merchants that ended up making deals with a few pirate companies to act as escorts, etc... You're safe if you stay in highsec, just be prepared to die the first few times you journey into the lawless areas ;)
