I know what I was asking what the new title would be on air.I do not like to be called names seen that I am a fan of Firefly and stuff that name up where it hurts I think the Caption would agree with the sentiment.

Oops. I didn't actually realize you were asking a question. I was just welcoming you to the board trying to be friendly and all but you seem to have looked at the signature that I use and taken offence. It wasn't aimed at you in the least it's a quote from this http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=19 a promotional feature from when the show was just starting up. I adopted the quote because of my experiences with trying to explain to other people what Firefly is about, "It's a space, western, noir, action, adventure, comedy, drama kind of thing." Sorry for the confusion.

To answer the question Serenity is a more likely title for a resurected Firefly series though I think a movie sequel is more likely than a series no matter how much I might prefer to see it return to the series form.

Anyway welcome again (and note the signature which remains the same is not directed at you.)

Why Serenity? Fox still has the television rights; any subsequent series will either be produced by Fox or require another player to make the appropriate licensing arrangment with Fox. Could the name Serenity even be used without further licensing arrangements with Universal?

Too bad we don't know the details of the licensing arrangement that Universal has with Fox. I've heard rumours that a series can't take place until Universal has exercised its movie rights on the sequels. Production of a series might well require a complex set of negotiations with both Fox and Universal; without details of the various agreements, it's all just hopeful speculation. IMHO, strong DVD sales leading to Serenity 2 seems to be the best bet.

Because I really don't see Joss working with Fox in the near future and as you pointed out Fox holds the rights to Firefly. This is also why I think a movie is more likely than a series but I suspect that even if a series does somehow come about I think it's more likely to happen under the auspices of Universal than Fox. Yes there would no doubt be a lot of negotiations involved but in the final analysis it's probably in Fox's best interest for Serenity to continue in some form even if somebody else is doing the producing because every new fan of the 'Verse is a new sale for the Firefly DVD.

Just my opinion of course.

Someone else on the board was suggesting that Joss's feud was with the Fox network and not the production division. If so, it seems possible that Fox could produce a new series, sell the screening rights to a third party (the SciFi channel?) and make up the remainder of the production costs on DVD sales.

My guess is that we are going to have to wait on Universal to decide whether or not to proceed with a sequel before anything will happen with a new series.

Off topic: Has anyone picked up the graphic novel? I found it disappointing...my sense is that the story would've made an OK episode of Firefly, but I found the experience rather joyless without the various nuances that the actors bring to their characters.

I have it. It's okayish. Not much as a stand alone but as a conecting piece from Firefly to the movie I think it suits.

Yeah, there's some good scenes in there. But kind of left me a bit heart-broken in the final analysis. Plus if felt that Joss was stuggling some with a different medium from film. Think it would have been better if he'd had a few more issues to stretch it out with.

Still, it's Firefly, and it's canon so I'm looking forward to more comics ;p

dude, we all know that the strereotypical Fox viewer is either sadistic, has a lowbrow sense of humor, or an extreme mixture of both. it should be put on one of the NBC/ABC/that other C noone ever pays attention to.
