I was watching Our Mrs. Reynolds the other night and I heard something that I didn't catch before. When Saffron was in the bridge with Wash, alone, Saffron knocks him out, but before he was knocked out he was talking about how him and Zoe met. It sounded to me that he said something along the lines that the first time they met Zoe tried to poison him. I put on subtitles and it didn't register. I was wondering if I heard him right, and if there is any more speculation about it.

Maybe something Joss was planning on expanding upon. That would be a good way to bring Wash back is have a flashback when they started to like each other and maybe the wedding. Your thoughts please...

The script just ends at "The first time we -", I never heard anything about poison.

Eep, I don't remember that at all! It's probably to do with how, as we see in OoG, Zoe really disliked Wash at first.

Oh that wacky Wash! Always joking about the poison and the death.

Unless he wasn't joking :|

hey IS,
nope, zoe didn't poison wash. the line went like this: "you know, the first time me and zoe met, she tried to-" and he gets cut off. He does make an "F" noise before saffron knocks him out though. My guess is that she tried to "frisk" him. hee hee.

Thanks Engineangel for clearing that up. Didn't mean to create more rumors. I thought it was a poi sound then he was knocked out. It still makes me wonder what she did to him or tried to do. I think that could be an episode in itself after their first flight with Wash.
Another question I'd thought I'd throw out there since we're on the topic of Wash and Zoe. Why does even Zoe call him Wash? Maybe she doesn't say it too often, but it made me wonder the last time my mom called my dad by his last name...(doesn't ring a bell). Anyways just another thought to distract us all til Firefly comes back.

Well, if his name is set up in the Chinese style, than Washburn is his first name.

Also, it sounds a lot better than "Ho"

(Whores tend to have a bad rap on the show and that would be the nickname for Hoburn I imagine.) :)

Maybe he just prefers Wash to Hoban, crazy as that seems.

Touché lol. I wonder why Joss picked Hoban as his first name?

I don't know, in the days where Wash had that stasche I think he could be a Hoban. But don't people that have a horrible first name, usually use their middle name instead of last? At least to family and good friends? hmm

lol, yeah, they do usually call people by their middle names if there first names aren't very good, but hey! what if he doesn't have a very good middle name either? hehe. there's also that maybe in flight school, his nickname was wash and it just stuck. could that be it?

Keep flyin'

Washburn is a mouthfull so it would get shortened to Wash to be easier to yell when he messed up or was goofing off. It's Wash so you know he goofed off a lot in school. He probably just had a teacher who called people by thier last names or by Mr. of Ms. like teacher's who don't want to seem too friendly.

I don't think it is that much of a mystery. Think of all the MacSomethingorothers who go by "Mac". And there's a man in our town named Harmon. It's his last name, but I don't think anybody even knows what his first name is. Even his wife calls him Harmon.
