About six months ago I showed Firefly to my Mum and Dad.

Now my mum got into it straight away! She's a big western and sci-fi fan , and she's a writer also, so I knew she'd appreciate the writing in the show, so I wasn't too surprised at her reaction ans subsequent love of Firefly

However to my great surprise my Dad also loved it! Now it's a surprise because my dad loathes anything to do with sci-fi. He hated Star Wars, he hated having to take my brother and I, to the flicks to go watch ep 4,5,6 when we were kids. He even hates Marvin the Martian! So to see Firefly be granted his approval was astounding to me! Let alone the fact that he'd push me to put on the next disc!

Anyway as a treat I took 'em to go see SERENITY and this garnered the same results: Both pezs' loving it with a fury!... Result!

Well I'm with my dad yesterday and he's talking about the fact that he encouraged one of his work colleagues to go see SERENITY. The guy knew nothing about it. Anyway he sees it and loves it! Cannot believe what a cracking film it is and thanks my dad for urging him to see it! This work colleague is hooked.

So my dad says well what you wanna do now is go watch the cancelled TV series it is based on....Firefly...

Well last night about 10 at night my dad got a call from his friend, who on the strength of my dads approval went out and bought a copy.

(and I paraphrase here):

David (my dad's name), that Firefly!!! I've just watched the first two discs !!! I can't go to bed!!!! It's too good not to watch!!! Thank you!!!

So there you have it. My dad is now converting the uninformed!

Personally I'm chuffed to bits at that. The fact that my dad, ever the sci-fi cynic is now converting anybody and everybody he knows to the brilliance of Firefly is a major achievement.....

I'd never have believed it :D

That is awesome. Im currently converting my sister and my mom. My mom seems to take a fair liking to it, she is an old timer for xfiles and certain sci fi related shows. My sister is very much into japanese anime, so i was not too sure how she would take the show. They both seem to like it, not as much as i would like, but they're getting there. Now i need to convince my cousins (who are very closed minded and only do 'mainstream' things), and my girlfriend(who should be fairly impressed by the show).

Lovely, lovely, lovely!
Too bad this didn't happen in '02 (TQ, Fox, for your care and concern in showing the series out of order and only if you couldn't pre-mpt it for a ballgame) with all the US falling in love with our heroes and then spreading it overseas, for if it had, we'd have more seasons to watch and just think how long the marathons would be.

Hey that's good going! I've not tryed to convert me bro'. He would love it but to be fair to him he has four kids and just hasn't the time to engage in a show. Perhaps when we're both in our twilight years and the kids have all grown up I shall take him to one side and dust off my copy of Firefly and say:

"Hey bro.... There's something I want you to see..." For old times sake :)

Good luck with converting your girlfriend! My girlfriend puts up a helluva fight when I try to get her to watch any Sci-Fi. As a consequence I've yet to convert her. She's a stubborn little cookie. Thing is I know she'd love it if she gave it a chance, but y'know coz It's 'my' thing it's met with resistance... But she'll come around I'm sure

Cheers

Oh so true.... But we love SERENITY over here in the UK y'know. We voted it Film of the year for 2005! So you have spread the word :D....But of course it would have been great to have had the show on prime time TV.

*Sigh*

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Congratulations Somnambulist! Glad to see that your dad is not only a fan, but is out converting others too. Firefly & Serenity sell themselves if you can just get someone to give it a chance & watch.

Hope your dad keeps spreading the word. We need all the browncoats we can get.

Way to go! I think there is a massive wave of new Browncoats getting hooked every day(I'm one of them). Just look at the reviews on Amazon...the majority of the latest reviews are not from "fanboys", but from folks like me that got hooked long after the BDS was cancelled, hooked via the DVDs and Serenity.

This despite what Amazon's Firefly/Serenity/Joss review-bashers are spewing. It never ceases to amaze me why these BDIs go out of their way to bash Firefly and Serenity...not sure what they have to gain by spewing their snotty vitriol.

But I digress. Way to spread the word! I'm confident that we'll get our Big Damn Show back on the air someday, despite what some of the wet blankets out there say.
