If you're interested in organizing in your city or town one of my proposed same-day nationwide charity screenings of Serenity to benefit Equality Now, please see the Can't Stop The Serenity website.

I have updated the cobbled-together FAQ page with the proper contact information for someone in Distribution at Universal. Once you've got an interested and willing venue, that person is who you will need to contact to discuss film rental and public performance rights.

I've spoken with the Universal person in question via email. So this isn't something I'm just suddenly springing on them. If you contact him, be sure to tell him that you're doing so because you're organizing in your city or town for the benefit screenings proposed by the Can't Stop The Serenity website (though make sure he doesn't get confused and think you are actually me).

I should also say that the costs apparently vary rather dramatically in terms of the range of figures. I am not sure at the moment what criteria goes into that determination (some of it, I believe, relates to size of venue and expected attendance) -- but it's another good reason to secure a venue first, and then talk to Universal in conjunction with your venue contact person. Having an actual film-related venue likely will make it clear to Universal that they are dealing with serious people who know how to deal with showing films.
