So I was looking on Monkey Shines Beadery ( http://monkeyshinesbeadery.com/serenity/jayne/) and the lady there says that Jayne wore a Saint Christopher’s Medal in the movie. Does anybody know if that is true???

It kinda makes sense, and um if you don't know Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travelers. It is also said that he was 18 feet tall, you know big guy like Jayne. He is famous for carrying the weight of the world in the form of a small child across a dangerous river to safety.

But anyways enough about Saint Christopher, does anybody know if Jayne really wears that medal?

Yeah! If you look carefully, you'll see he's wearing something on a necklace - that must be his St Christopher's medal. I think you see it on him when he's drinking and then he goes to get River to throw her off the ship, just before she hits him with can of peaches..... See in this link:

I noticed it because I don't really like men wearing jewellery - but if it's that, I don't mind so much!!

He's also known in some circles as the patron saint of Werewolves (due to sometimes being portrayed as a dog or a human with a dog's head, after being conflated with an English folk legend about a sainted hound).

Not exactly a "Man-Ape Gone Wrong," but close.

Which makes his connection to River (both dangerous, and a small child --a potential messiah figure, just as the child in St. Christopher's legend is said to be baby Jesus) all the more meaningful. And the ominous "nice shuttle ride" all the more chilling.

He is definitely wearing a Saint's medal. I noticed that and thought that it wasn't quite right. But some of the explanations here helped with the reasoning. It helps to know one's saint history.

I noticed it right away in the movie, and even asked about it here at one point.
He's only wearing it in two scenes. I had thought at first that it might have someething to do with Shepherd Book, but he's wearing it before Haven is destroyed.

Joss does nothing without purpose, so I was surprised there wasn't more debate on it.

HELL'S KITTEN

As everyone else has already said, yep, Jayne wears it. I just figured it was something Book had given him, maybe before Book left Serenity.

Anyway, it was on display at Universal's Serenity Fan-Fest; I tried to take a photo but my camera sucks, so it turned out blurry and dark. Adam also wore it to Dragon*Con prior to the movie premiere (that picture turned out fine ). You may not have always noticed it in the movie because sometimes it was under his shirt.

Cheers.

Yes, Jayne wears a St. Christopher's medal.

Apparently, in an interview, Adam Baldwin says that Jayne stole it from the Alliance guy he drops in the Payroll Office they do their initial heist in, but that little bit of the scene is cut.

But he did steal it off the guy then wear the St. Christopher's medal throughout the rest of the movie.

Gimme a few minutes, I'll see if I can hunt up a picture for you.
