Joss gave us a real gift with Serenity. He used the movie to tie up all of the really important open questions that were remaining from the series. I guess I take comfort that if I must let Serenity be the last story of the ‘Verse, and just assume happily every after.

That being said, I l would like to try to do better than that. I want to see those adventures, challenges, and travel a little further. I know that there have been several different ideas to try and bring it back, but in my opinion, the biggest challenge facing this show is a lack of awareness. I know because six months ago I never heard of it.

Ever year I get the flu at least once through casual contact with other people. I have decided to spread my own virus (no, not a computer virus). Call it a virus of awareness. I have added a simple line to my e-mail stationary:

You can't stop the signal. http://www.fireflyfans.net/ http://www.serenitymovie.com/

It may be a complete waste of time, but it is a free easy way of raising awareness among the people I am contact with. Hopefully a few people I know when click the links and the next time the go to the video store will rent Serenity and fall in love with it like I did. Maybe we can start our on little epidemic that affects those who love original storytelling. Maybe my line is too cheesy and you need your own. Regardless, let’s spread the virus.

Murkymerc,
That's a very good idea. I think i'll do the same thing, or something similar if ya don't mind me doing so. Don't worry though, it isn't a waste of time, I'm sure someone along the lines will see it then spread the word to some one else. Any more converting ideas are welcome, espically if anyone can come up with an idea on how to convert my g/f. I'm baffled.

This is a great idea Murkymerc and I'm going to adopt it too. It's a nice subtle way to add the 'verse to the rest of my life.

Hey, if 1 or 2 people that I know click on the link and fall in love, it will have accomplished a beautiful thing, because they'll infect somemore folks too.

We know this spreads... look at all the new folks coming in the last couple of days! This is another good way to do it.

Thanks, Murkymerc

Is, just start her on Trash.

It begins with a very fine POA, our beloved Cap'n, right there in his birthday suit, nekkid as the day he were born, in his full glory...

Well, you get the picture.

Kaele,
Thanks for the tip, lol. I'll give it a shot. She's seen the pilot and the movie but so far she doesn't care much for it. Any other tips for converting would be appreciated from any other Browncoats.

GREAT Idea!

I had no idea what Firefly was until about a month ago... Same with a good friend of mine, my brother and his friend too... Now all 4 of us can't get enough of Firefly and serenity.

Can I put this idea on www.browncoatsriseagain.com for the top 10 things a Browncoat can do right now?

If you could send me how you want your name attributed to it as well that would be shiny!

And if you care to, a photo for an upcoming newsletter?

Thanks!

perseverance. thats the key to recruiting. i have a corner of my house with a dvd player. it always has serenity on. i get a lot of flow in and out of my house. recruiting is easy if they stop and are like, whats that? see i do tattoos in my house....(clean and sterile)...so i get al kinds of new people in and out. ive actually gotten a friend to play it over and over in his tattoo shop. who knows how many can be converted.

i love the pitter patter of tiny feet in combat boots

Hey all. If you like the idea then please consider it yours and do anything with it that you would like. You can also credit as you wish, unless you think there is a possiblity that it will bring Morena Baccarin to my house in her underwear in which case I want full credit. Mainly I just wanted to add another idea to the mix. Thanks for the positive.

Is, follow Trash with "Heart of Gold", she won't be able to resist the double whammy of our Cappy in his birthday suit and then him with Nandi and then to top it all off..... his face as he's tellin' Inara almost how he feels and then .....there's more..... his face when she says she's leavin'. I don't know any female in the world who can resist that!

Then have her watch "Safe" and she'll be sold.
When the Captain says " Chows in ten. No need to dress." and she sees them all gather at the table as a family her heart will belong on Serenity.

The other folk's ideas are funnier, but here's what I immediately thought when you asked for help converting your girlfriend:

* Make/buy her favorite food, buy chocolate, (flowers even?), light candles--the whole mushy nine yards and then ask if she'll watch with you
* Offer to watch figure skating or Fred Aistaire or Pride & Prejudice or whatever it is she wishes you'd give a chance--in exchange for her giving FF a chance. Watch her choice first, and make sure to be attentive and think of at least two positive things to say.

I'm a girl, and these ideas totally popped into my head as things that are fair and would probably work on me :-) Thankfully, my boyfriend was not as hard to convince. But think how great you'll feel when you finally hook her in! Then she'll always associate FF with tenderness and chocolate... what could be better?

Cheers, Amylisai

IsaacShepherd, try and show her the episode that will most appeal to her - never mind if it's out of sequence, get her to watch her "gateway" episode and she'll be hooked.

I converted a handful of people who were either tolerant, or puzzled about the whole Firefly phenomenon. We got together for pizza, and we watched my copies of the Firefly gag reel followed by Jaynestown. These people all have finely tuned senses of humour...and they're tuned to the same distorted frequency. Jaynestown was their "gateway" episode. A few had previously tried watching Joss' pilot, and it just didn't grab them. I found the right key, apparently.

I've had reports that three people have now bought the series, and Serenity on DVD. All because of me and my wee little idea. These folks are all fairly active in a local social organization. I figure by now they're making a few converts of their own. (All the better to drive up the sales, eh?)

Good luck with your recruitment drive!

If it doesn't work, I say get a new girlfriend. The only thing that kept my wife and I out of divorce court was two kids and the fact that she liked the show

Okay, part of this response is an attempt to return the thread to the original focus as well as a shameless attempt get it back to the first page or a few more minutes. However, let me also use this as an opportunity to ask if you if I can add your site to my e-mail signature as well. That way there is something there for the already converted as well.

An idea that spreads through a group like a virus is called a meme. They can be alone or in groups, they can pass through conversation or mass media.

As time goes on weaker memes (like weaker genes, the words are intentionally similar) die out replaced by stronger ones.

I believe our meme is strong, we only need spread it and then it will take care of itself.

Spreading it is the hard part. Your idea might not help, but it will not hurt, and it certainly is more than worth the effort it would take.

I love this idea and will adopt it as my own.

Has anyone in this forum ever talked about converting a vast resource of freeloaders that may not be aware of Firefly/Serenity through our local library system.

If not, I'm happy to be the first, we need to promote a system that encourages all Browncoats to beg, borrow or come up with some other clever way to make sure their own local library has both copies of our Verse.

OK, i'm willing to take credit for the idea and let others figure out the details of my system.

This part has been done, including people purchasing a copy of the movie and series and donating it to their local library.

Good one though! Take it further.

Perhaps you can search through a few major cities and check their library systems. See if they list Firefly and Serenity then compile us a list of which ones need them.

Expand:
Also look into local colleges. They have a video lending library as well.

Think you can handle that?
