Hello all. Over this past weekend, I watched the Firefly series and Serenity movie on DVD. I was completely blown away by what I saw. The action, the stories, the characters...the humor. What an amazing casting and writing job. Joss Whedon and his crew came out with one hell of a story and drew me into it unlike I ever thought I would.

How this show ever got cancelled is a mystery to me. Well, I guess the ratings were bad at the time and in hollywood, you need ratings. There's a lot of crap on TV (including most reality shows) and it's a shame that the extremely talented team that put Firefly together were shunned by such mediocore crap being aired on TV today.

I can't say enough about the characters and what each of them brings to the TV and movie screen. You get so involved with them and root for them to get out of every bad situation.

I can go and on about this, but I will stop there. I just hope another movie is made soon. Take care all. Looking forward to reading all of your threads.

Welcome. And you are absolutely correct about Firefly, Serenity, Joss, et al.

You mentioned that most reality shoes are crap, but I have to think to myself....

....Aren't ALL reality shows crap??? And when you compare it to Firefly, well, reality shows are something that I really should not say on these forums.

But anyways, I'm really glad you found Serenity (the ship of course. Figure of speech), and all I can add is for you to try and convert AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE!!! We all want another movie or series (or anything) and getting more people hooked is the best way to do it!

Just don't forget about the Serenity comics, they fill in the gap between the series and the movie, and it reads just like another awesome episode! On the plus side of that, Joss Whedon and Dark Horse have commmisioned MORE Serenity comics for sometime later this year (and more Sin City).

Have a good one,
Y'all stay shiny now.

I was also blown away when I first saw Serenity and Firefly. You are also correct about reality tv, sad thing is if people keep watching it, then it'll stay on tv and some people just watch it cause it's something on.
Oh well, anyways there is still hope for us to get a new season or movie so take a peek at the other threads and see what you can do. It has been done once. Perhaps this sin that Fox has commited of taking Firefly off the air can be reversed, although never forgiven.

Welcome.

We've all discovered this series/movie at different times, but we've all felt the same way -- how could something this entertaining (and addictive) have been so short-lived?

Welcome njutfan. It is by far the best isn't it? I never had such a reaction since the original Star Wars movies came out in the 70's. I went the extreme getting the toys and cards, and transfer prints. Had a Luke Skywalker shirt I wore to death. Well Star Wars and Superman. Ohhh, that Chris Reeves was poured into his suit.

Though this show caters to the more mature audience it can be appreciated by all. It's surprising the age varients of the fans. This show was thought provoking, heartfelt, well written well acted, and funny as all gorram hell.... thus the reason it didn't last. Not that people don't have the intellegence to follow a briliant show as this, more like tv execs don't have enough brain cells between them to recognize a brilliant show like this.

I'm reminded of a Simpson's episode, Bart brainwashed into killing Krusty with a bomb. At the last moment it was stopped and the bomb was thrown into a room full of Blue Han.... I mean tv execs and it went off. But instead of killing them they turned Terminator and morphed into a new exec saying in threatening tones something like "You cannot kill us, where one dies hundreds will follow" Very loose paraphrasing. Bout says it all right there.

I'm nursing a headache but please let me offer you some refreshment.
Mudders Milk; All the carbs and protiens of your

Someone will be along to offer you a shiny new brown coat and nibbles. I made coffee for later if you like. You'll enjoy yourself here.

Yeah, editing was the right thing to do. I originally thought everyone had seen both the series and the movie who are registered with this site. Hmmmm, maybe not. In any case, I will hold my "type/tongue."

See, the thing you have to take into account with the Big Damn Movie (BDM, get used to that term, you'll see it ALOT ) is that it didn't get much of a theatrical release in the US, to say nothing of internationally. The DVD hasn't even come out in several countries. Long story short, a good chunk of the fanbase hasn't even gotten the briefest taste of the film.

Anyhoo, welcome!

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

I love learning about this "monster" that's building up to hopefully bring in a new movie or better yet, another shot at the TV series...monster being a good thing. Do you think any TV execs are aware of this website of devoted followers (browncoats)? I am amazed that I see over 150 people have read my thread. That's incredible and everyone who has responded has been so welcoming. Thank you all.

MAGERA

I Went to the movies to watch Serenity for the first time late last year in Australia...

My Goodness was THAT one of the best Sci-Fi's of late to be released..

I had no idea about the series Firefly until I spotted them at the local video store just over a month ago. I decided to hire them to see what they where like...

My Goodness aren't THEY one of the best Sci-Fi series of late....

Just 3 weeks ago Serenity was released here in Australia. As soon as I saw it I picked it up to buy.... Then I spotted the Firefly series so I bought that Too...

WOW... that's all I have to say...

Oh and hi to all you other fans! Here's hoping there's a HUGE comeback to this series or movie... it's just been SOOO refreshing to see something that meshes so well together as firefly and serenity does.

Magera Welcome. Seems I've been saying that a lot. Now, you see, if Fux had actually TRIED to promote this show instead of placing it on death night (Fridays) and played the 2 hour pilot first instead of last and played the shows in proper order and had... grrr never mind, I'll go off in a tangent and I'm here to be cheerful.

I'm the official bartender it seems, so have a pint.

Almost forgot, look out for Followmal to give you your official Browncoat. She's our requisitions officer. As for munchies, Kaele should be around somewhere, she makes damn fine dumplings.

KAELE

Well, seeing as it's breakfast time...

Pei Tarn Chook, so grab a bowl and a spoon. The breakfast of sou xi theives. We're glad to have you.

Njutfan and Magera, seeing as how Followmal's a tad busy, I think I can speed up that process and hand over your Independence Issue Browncoat. (When asked, the official story is that I got promoted to supply clerk assistant. Got it?)

I believe she's off somewhere trying to rustle up a few more boxes. We're a bit strapped for supplies and she coulda run into some Alliance trouble, seeing as how these particular coats are not exactly available in stores. Not even on sale or nothin'.

*brushes off the shoulders of the two coats and hands them over*

Wear them proudly.

...and watch that Mudder's milk hangover. No stumbling around the ship. One of you falls and dies, I'm not cleaning it up! Gonna have to speak to the Cap'n about that Misstressahara, can't go having crew drunk all the time.

Wacky fun :)

NUCLEARDAY

/me smells food. Must mean there's more recruits afoot... ;p

There's just been a veritable calvalcade of new recruits coming through here every day. Still pretty green around here myself, but it's definately more noticeable than when I stowed away out here a little bit ago, so word must be spreading.

So a great big howdy to all the fresh recruits. There's always room on the lines for a few more. Keep the faith, spread the word, and know that we'll all be holding here when Mal returns.

*grabs a plate of Kaele's famous Pei Tarn Chook* (Really just came for the free food...:) I'll be in my bunk... ;p
