Hey everybody! I reckon I'm just lookin' for some decent folk in my neck of the woods. I'd love to try and set up a Serentiy/Firely filmfest in the area sometime and maybe convert a few unbelievers while we're at it!

Yo!

I live in La Crosse and Madison (at once! See, half my body is...no just kidding.) I attend college up here in La Crosse, but I go home to Madison about once a month. Whereabouts are you from?

Yes, indeed, there are Browncoats here - I've converted a bunch of people to the cause already, but always willing to get more. I'm in the Shorewood area of Milwaukee. Drop a line and let me know if you get anything set up for this view-a-thon.

I'm in Green Bay. I'm in college at UWGB and that's where I'd like to set up screenings if possible. I haven't looked into it at all but it sure would be fun. Are there any good facilities for that type stuff in the Milwaukee area? I'm afraid the only movie-going joint I know of down there is The Oriental (which is gorram badass I might add!)but I don't know if they would support something like that or not.

The big problem you'll run into with showing the episodes or movie in a movie theater is that Fox isn't real keen on giving out permission to do that. I don't know what Universal's take is on it, but Fox is being downright prickish about the whole thing.

I think you'd be better off trying to get a gathering going at a university film room or someone's house than any large venue. As for location in state, well, it seems we've got a pretty widespread bunch. GB is about 2 hours north, Madison about an hour west and LaCrosee 4 hours NW of Milwaukee.

I would recommend Milwaukee as the best meet-up site, and not just because I live here, but if it happens elsewhere (or at all), I won't have my feelings hurt.

New Berlin Browncoats Represent! I am in if you got plans on a filmfest, I'm more the Jayne type, so you'll have to do the planning but if you need some muscle my cut is 10% of all profits. (lets see 10% of nothing is nothing so...) Don't mind the drive time where-ever this goes down cause I can listen to my shiny new Serenity soundtrack.

I live in Green Bay & if you're looking for a theater to show Firefly/Serenity, you can rent the budget theater De Pere & show anything you have on DVD. My husband did this last year for my birthday & it was terrific. I'm not sure how much it was, & we could only have the theater till 2 pm. but if you had enough people interested & willing to pay a couple bucks,it could be a fun time. They serve food, too, pizza, burgers & the like & also beer.

Best way to skirt veiwing rights is to make it a private or members-only kinda' showing. I conjure that wouldn't be too difficult seein' how we're all 'Coats and all. I'll look into the theater thing...

BTW, welcome to the boat Psyborg. I reckon FollowMal will be around to issue you your regulation duds. She's the one to talk to if you want yourself a proper browncoat (virtual, that is).

Looks like we have a good bunch of Browncoats in WI. Anyone who hasn't yet should probably put there dot on the Browncoat World Map, off the link on the main page. We need to show the world just how many beer drinkin Browncoats we got in this great state.
Hows that theater lookin into going BrownCoatRecruiter?

These theaters showed Serenity in November 2005.

WI 53154 Oak Creek Marcus Value Cinema Oak Creek
WI 53713 Monona Marcus South Towne Cinemas

Maybe they would be interested in having a Serenity/Firefly filmfest.

I too did not think this was possible because of Fox and such. BUT A FIREFLY/SERENITY MARATHON IS HAPPENING AT A THEATER The Del Mar theater in Santa Cruz, CA

They are going to show Serenity at midnight on March 31. And every episode of Firefly followed by Serenity on April 1, 2006.

Serenity midnight show March 31, 2006
http://www.thenick.com/comingSoon.html#midnight_serenity

Serenity Marathon on April 1st.
http://www.thenick.com/comingSoon.html#midnight_fireflyserenity

I do not know if humans answer their phones, but here is The Del Mar's contact number 831-469-3220
If you reach a real nice person or maybe a Browncoat they might be able to tell you how to arrange a Firefly/Serenity screening that the public can buy tickets for.

First, you need to find a theater in WI that does film fests or midnight marathons or even midnight shows.

There is a yahoo group set up to discuss charity screenings of Serenity. theonetruebix has
"relevant contact information at Universal (for those planning charity benefit screenings of Serenity this year), in the database section of the CSTS group on Yahoo!"

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cantstoptheserenity/
He is trying to get Browncoats to arrange charity screenings of Serenity on June 23, 2006 (Joss's birthday)

I think the first thing he recommends is to find the theater venue.

Here's another one in Madison!
As far as theatres go, the Orpheum seems like a possibility. They've shown anime on DVD, the Rocky Horror Picture Show is a regular there, and they had a one night showing of "We Jam Econo", the Minutemen documentary, complete with local bands doing Minutemen covers afterwards. Maybe this is something they'd do.

I haven't got any info on the De Pere theatre in Green Bay yet. Sorry for the delay folks but school has got me pretty busy at the moment. However, I'll be looking into the matter this Wed., Mar. 1st. I like the idea of a charity event but I don't know how many people we would have to contribute to it. So, if that's the case then a free screening would be nice too, but I don't know if we would have enough time for a marathon event. If anyone else has any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks.

So here's what I know so far. The DePere Cinema in DePere WI can be rented on the weekends typically about 2mo. in advance for 2hrs and 15-30min. before 1:00pm. So unfortunately no marathon there. We would need a minimum of 16 people at a charge of $5.00 a head for a total of at least $80.00(not too bad) and each person would recieve a free soda and popcorn with that entry fee. They also serve pizzas for $7.00 a pop.

I could certainly set this up if there is enough interest but it really sucks that our time would be so limited and so early in the day. What does everyone else think? I do have the option of setting up an all day event on the UWGB campus as I am the co-chair of the student film society on campus. I could do this for free but the facilities are considerably smaller, the sound is nowhere near as good as a real theatre, and we wouldn't have the snacks and beverages option (execpt for vending machine stuff).

I need so feedback on this folks, so please let me know what y'all think about this. If anyone has any other ideas or inclinations, let's hear 'em.

Certainly sounds like you're doing a bang-up job with this thing. I guess it really depends what people ultimately want to do. If we just want to watch Serenity on the big screen again, I'd go with the $80 theater. If we wanted to do the marathon, I'd nab the university screen.

My 2 cents

I am shiny with just watching the movie again on the big screen. I think the main point of this whole thing is to commune with fellow Browncoats. 16 people shouldn't be hard to get (could probably bring 2 or 3 besides myself) and we could always go out after if we really feel the need to continue the day. $5 a head is real cheap, plenty of cashy money for brews after. If people really want a marathon I would be game for that to though.

GRIZWALD

This is the first time I have noticed this thread, but I'm in the very NE corner of Iowa, and Mr. Grizwald works in LaCrosse.

The Rivoli in downtown LaCrosse would be a fun place to do a private show (they do them). They do midnight shows, AND they serve pizza... beer... cappuchinos... etc. It's one of those places where they pulled out every second row of seats and put in tables instead. I love to see a show at The Rivoli with my kids - just keep throwin food at 'em and they're happy. It's where we saw Return of the King and even the littlest - she was 4 then - stuck the whole thing out.

The idea isn't dead but we need more interest to pull it off and I don't know if the De Pere Cinema would be the most convienent place for everyone. I like the Rivoli in LaCrosse idea but if we want this to happen, we all have to start throwing ideas out there.
