Does anyone have any information on the release of a Special Edition of Serenity? I just read on a post about an exceedingly shiny Australian Spcl Ed that was released in a sweet tin collector's box. Where can I find one of those, aside from actually going to Australia which I won't be doing until May.

I need to buy a second (or third) copy of our BDM to loan out to the yet-unconverted (we've gotta have new recruits after all) but I'd really like to have a keeper copy on the shelf.

Any thoughts 'Coats?

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

If and when it is released I will definitely buy it. Serenity is one of the first Universal films that will be released on the new HD-DVD format, but the date for that has not been announced yet. I'll even buy that version even though it might be a while before I would have a unit capable of playing it. Ideally, they will release a regular DVD special edition at the same time.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess this won't play on an American DVD player? I'd almost considering importing it just for that tin, either way.

I got mine from ezydvd last week and it's definitely worth it for the extras that we don't get here. There are quite a few cheap dvd players that you can get that can be hacked with a few key combos on the remote. You may alrady have one that can be hacked. You can check here...

I have mine, too, and the tin box and extra features are definitely shiny.

You can play it on your PC without any problems. You can also make a non-regionalized copy of the CD. It's only your TV that will choke on the PAL format video.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

One thing I don't understand is why all the special editions are made for overseas? Don't get me wrong, I know there are Browncoats all over the globe, but it's rather strange that those overseas should be given these little extras.

Ok, now I sound bitter and snarky, all my overseas Browncoats forgive me, I'm just trying to understand this.

The collectors Tin is an EzyDVD exclusive, I beleive they produce them themselves. But for the extra features, I don't know. Maybe this is Universal and Joss's Revenge on America for not enough peiople watching his show.

God I hope not, I want the tin, without the hastle of shipping and handling. They should call it shipping and gouging your pocket with excessive pricing.

Special E, Special E, I want a Special E.

Sounds like a cereal, okay, really have to stop with the pints. Maybe only Mudders Milk shots. Mudderkins, I can handle that.

Um... what were we talking about?

You sure you're not talking about the "Philips dvp 642"?

I have the shiny Aussie extra packed tin boxed collectors edition, the only complaint I have is that the tin box isnt sized or made to fit on a shelf amongst other dvds.

Judging from the extras once I saw them, I suspect it was more a matter of this: Regardless of whether or not Universal currently has any plans or intentions to release another edition here in the U.S., I think it's pretty clear that the original plan was to "double-dip" in that way.

Watching "A Filmmaker's Journey" especially, I find it very difficult to believe the extras somehow were produced only for the international market.

I think it's safe to bet that the original plan was for the U.S. to get this stuff, too.

It's just anyone's guess whether or not that's still the plan.

New Zealand also has the 2 disc edition, no shiny tin though, I believe that ezydvd does that with quite a few genre movies they sell. I found the "A Filmmaker's Journey" with all sorts of Nathan tom foolery was the best of the Aussie extras and as that was on the disc one can't understand why the US release didn't have it - unless it was about the timing of the DVD release, it hit the shelves so quickly in the States perhap there wasn't time...

I would like to see another audio commentary in edition to Joss', perhaps Nathan and Joss as they obviously get on so well together and are very entertaining. Hell the more commentaries the better, more excuses to watch the film ;)

There was also a Serenity related freebie DVD included with the Australian Empire magazine which had some footage from various conventions or the fan previews, that could also be included in a SE.

In fact Universal should have shot plenty of footage of the pre-release fan previews, surely they would have wanted them taped to try to analyse if this type of marketing ploy was worth the effort... Also more cast and crew interviews please, I could listen to Nathan and co waxing lyrical until the cows come home :)
