Having just discovered watched the series over a week or so, and having seen the movie all I can say is "arrgh!!! why???"

I'm another condemned soul. No hope of true happiness until another series is made.

When I watch tv these days all I can think about is how perfectly crap it is compared to these Firefly DVDs sitting here.

Frankly I'm over watching TV, bring on TV over IP so we can truely watch what we want.

Sorry for the predictable post but it is the only thing I can think to do in this time of grief.

If it helps we all feel exactly the same way.
I haven't watched tv since I got my Firefly DVD set, the only thing I've watched in addition to it is the BDM. I ordered BSG at the same time and it's still in it's wrapper. Sigh....

I compare everthing to it, and of course, nothing compares. So... I'm back to square one, which is watching and rewatching the series and the movie and wishing, ah, wishing for more. But.. I do find something I didn't see before each and every time I watch them. Which is fun!

Fanfic helps...I was a reluctant fanfic reader and it still has to be as close to canon as I can find for me to like it much, but it does indeed help.

No apologies needed. It's always good to be reminded I'm not the only one who feels this strongly about a TV show. About a week ago I watched "Out of Gas" again and got choked up over the beauty and sadness of it more than the first time I'd seen it. The fire being sucked silently into the black, Wash at Zoe's side in the infirmary, Kaylee in shock that her baby the ship was dying, Mal and Wash arguing over the distress beacon, the shuttles heading off in opposite directions, the dining room in disarray - every scene magnificent. The credits rolled and I was floored by the awful deadening realization: They cancelled THIS!!! Of all shows, THIS?????

I'm a newbie, too, who got here after the party was over! The best way to get through it is to watch them again. And grab a friend. It always seems that when you watch something with someone who has never seen it before, its like you are seeing it for the first time, too. You might be able to re-capture a little of that magic, and you may even bring another recruit into the ranks.

I know...it sucks doesnt it? We all feel your pain here. I came onboard a little over a month ago and it still hurts (and still rewatching eps and movie almost daily...when can you say that about a TV show? The same 14 eps and movie? over and over...)

At least you can get a fix on the websites/boards. I would go mad if I had no one to comiserate (sp?) with.

My first post....

UNREGISTEREDCOMPANION

Things to do until Serenity 2....

1. Convert all friends and coworkers by inviting them over for Movie nights...the only movie you ever show being Serenity.
2. Learn how to knit a Jayne hat.
3. Get the comics and the paperback and the Firefly DVDs...view repeatedly.
4. Redecorate your bedroom in "Classic Companion" style.
5. Plant a patch of strawberries in the yard.
6. Take lessons in Manderin Chinese.
7. Begin slicing all your apples before you eat them.
8. Tune in to www.mruniverse.net every day.
9. Start checking Whedonesque daily in case his holiness posts.
10. Pimp your SUV to look like Serenity.
11. Steal all the plastic dinosaurs out of your kid's toy box.
12. Start wearing combat boots with your floral cotton dresses.
13. Experiment with recipes for Mudder's Milk.
14. Yeah...fruity oaty bars too!
15. Find a necklace with a leaf on it and wear it every day.
16. Know your day is complete when someone sees it and mutters "I'm a leaf on the wind..."
17. Begin martial arts training so you can fight like River.
18. Get a Serenity tattoo.
19. Try to convince your family that there is nothing wrong with you after you follow steps 1-18.
20. Enjoy the quiet of the nice padded room and the shiny new coat with the ties in the back you now wear.

AUNTYCHRIS

Don't forget Firefly/Serenity literature!! I just got my copies of Serenity: a Visual Companion (complete with unedited movie script), novelization of Serenity, and Finding Serenity essays by prominent writers, including Jewel (Kaylee). This stuff is so shiney I almost have to wear shades to read it.

Welcome here, we're weird.

If you want more convert people to the point that they will both buy the DVDs and convert more people.

That's the formalities, there is no initiation.

You're among family now, we're a big strange family with an assortment of philosophies, religions, lack-of-religions, tastes, and other things. But we all have two things in common:

We all love Firefly.
We all belong here.

It sounds corny, it sounds stupid, but this is home, and we are family.

The San Francisco Chronicle said this:
"Some people might question these fans' devotion to a series that ran a total of 13 episodes (of which only 11 aired). Some people have never been in love."

Other than getting the number of episodes wrong, which is a common mistake actually, that is what I think we all feel.
