Okay, this has nothing to do with sci-fi but it IS a fantasy movie. Anyway, I just caught the trailer for the new movie "Dead Man's Chest" and it seems like it would be worth seeing. I always fancied movies and games about pirates (Goonies, the Monkey Island series) so when the original Pirates of the Caribbean was coming out, I was pretty excited and had to *beg* some friends and my sister to see it with me (who subsequently all loved it and bought it on DVD as soon as it came out). The point of my post (who says I need a point?!) is are there other people who are looking forward to this movie coming out? Maybe not drop everything and run like we all did for "Serenity" but at least thinking they will drop the $5-$15 (depending on where you live) to see it in the theater?

I think it looks like a movie worth seeing.
$15.00 for a movie?! I gotta know where people are paying that. I still pay $6.75 for a matinee and $9.75 for a night show. How much is popcorn at the theatre that charges $15.00 for tickets? LOL

I honestly don't know. I think the first one was great but I fail to see the necessity for this sequel/trilogy (besides money).

Yup can't wait for the movie to come so see where I am ie state side or in Japan at that time frame etc. Oh by the way someone was wondering about movie prices being in $15 range, in Japan its $15 if you have a student discount and a bit higher if you don't etc. Hope that helps.

Whatever, it's going to be wicked. Even though it's going to be a money sucker, I don't think they're going to make it bad. Johnny Depp was so good in that movie.

/But why is all the rum gone?

I'm in. First movie was just such incredible fun --on par with the old Indiana Jones movies. (Why don't they make adventure movies like that anymore? It's all about the CGI and the spectacle --where's the fun?)

Sure, why the hell not.

Even though I'm currently writing an essay that lambasts ARMAGEDDON, I enjoy a Jerry Bruckheimer flick as much as the next guy. So bring it on.

And since we're on the topic of pirate movies, I think CUTTHROAT ISLAND is a severely underrated film. I know when it first came out, it was one of the biggest bombs, but when you're a ten year old boy seeing it unbiased in a small town theatre, it's the stuff of dreams.

I have walked along the path of evil many times, it's a twisting, curving path that..actually leads to a charming plot garden, BUT BEYOND THAT EVIL!!!"

Mmmm...Orland without shirt in water all soaking wet. That's a pretty image to conjure up.

I may be biased because I am completely in love with Pirates of the Carribean, but it just looked so darn cool. I'm looking forward to what they'll do musically. I really enjoyed the score to the last one and hope to see the old themes return and see if they added some new ones.

Orlando,in a commentary on the Collector's Edition of PotC1: "Swash, swash, buckle, buckle!"
Didn't think I'd be a fan until I heard they had signed Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush. Said to myself there must be something going on here.
Then someone I know went to the Caribbean to work on the crew.
So I had to get the DVDs.
The someone has been back in the Caribbean for months (except for Christmas), filming PotC 2 *and* 3, and said the writers were working on 4 and 5.
From the commentaries on the discs I'd gather that most of the people involved are in love with it, and I know Johnny Depp has said he'd do 9 of them if given the chance.

Yep... I always had my student ID or international student ID with me in Japan, which got a ticket about US$10 (likely US$15 in Tokyo). London has just as atrocious prices for movie tickets. The US meanwhile typically gouges you on popcorn and drinks to charge a slightly less price (which is why I don't feel bad about smuggling in some Reese's Pieces and a can of Sprite before I go).

Anywho, it has made me more picky about what I watch. Though Dead Man's Chest is likely going to be near the top of my list for stuff coming out this year (it is this year, right?). KF

Lord, I'm walking your way. Let me in, for my feet are sore, my clothes are ragged.
Look in my eyes, Lord, and my sins will play out on them as on a screen. Read them all.
Forgive what you can and send me on my path. I will walk on until you bid me rest.

Yeah I was in Nagasaki in 2004 for about 9 months and even with the student discount, I think it was $15. A couple times I paid it cause I had nothing else to do. College over there -- way too much free time, which was good and bad. demo zannen ne. And of course a couple times friends ended up treating me. Nothing like Gaijin charm

damn, my $3.50 per movie ($2.50 matinee) is looking really good now...........I guess it pays to live in a small town.

Wash: Yeah, but psychic? That sounds like science fiction.
Zoe: You live on a spaceship, dear.
