I'm actually thinking sort of bubble gum pop music. Bouncy and breezy, like her. Maybe some 50's Connie Francis and Beach Boys, things like that. Also, definately sweet little love songs that she could just sit in her room and sigh to!

"If they've got guns or brains at all."
"They've got guns."

Yeah, how about

"You can't hurry love"

or

"Momma said there'd be days like this" with Diana Ross.

Something simple, Johnny and June Carter Cash are my votes. Also upbeat top 40 stuff too. Whatever those prissy girls on Shindig would listen to, she'd try to emulate, bless her heart.

i think of Japanese pop or Korean pop music. really bubbily, makes american pop sound harsh.
also american indy girl pop-rock. THings like Cub, Hoku, the Murmurs, things like that.
Basically anything from the ten things i hate about you soundtrack.
Please don't ask how a 21 year old man knows so much about girly music...

Damn you Ani Difranco.... damn you...

Wash: Yeah, but psychic? That sounds like science fiction.

Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You" (Is Easy 'Cause You're Beautiful). It'd be her ode to Simon although maybe not quite syrupy enough...

Tha' lyrics:

Loving you
Is easy because you're beautiful....
Making love with you
Is all I want to do....
Loving you
Is more than just a dream come true....
And everything that I do
Is out of loving you....

No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring....
Stay with me while we grow old....
And we will live each day in spring time....

Because loving you....
Has made my life so beautiful....
And every day of my life
Is filled with loving you....
Loving you....
I see your soul come shining through....
And everytime that we.... [implied: 'ride the hobby horse']
Oh I'm more in love with you....

Tell me that's not Kaylee. It's even got little birdies chirping in the background...

Lyrically,

zoid

P.S.
"La-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la-la, La-la-la-la-la Lala-la-la-lala... Shoobedoobeedeedoo! [Ultrasonic piercing note that drives dogs frantic and scares cats into hiding under the bed; sounds like] *Whee-ee-ee-aaah-ah!*"

P.P.S.
For younger listeners, it's the same 'suprasoprano' upper register Mariah Carey employs (sounds like a teapot boiling or someone whistling); but Minnie was the first to record it, as far as I'm aware.

Sugar Sugar by the Archies,
Steal My Sunshine by Len,
Sunshine Superman by Donovan,
Turn, Turn, Turn by The Byrds,
Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In by Fifth Dimension,
anything by Prozzak,

"Strawberry Fields Forever"

For some reason, "99 Luftballons" by Nena comes to mind. I'm not an expert on the subject, but I figure general Euro-pop, as opposed to American pop.

And "Float On" by Modest Mouse.

I second the J-pop suggestion.

Maybe T.M. Revolution, Two-Mix, The Pillows, L'Arc-en-Ciel, or Puffy Amiyumi.

Also some Brit-pop: queue up some B*Witched (if "Get Happy" doesn't sum up our Kaylee, then nothing does).

I am furiously taking notes. All of your suggestions have been excellent. Well...maybe with the exception of hard-rock. I just don't see it.
Y'all have even given me band names which is a big
help when Amazoning...because remember..when you
select a certain CD they always add at the bottom:
"peole who bought this CD also bought/liked....

then I get more band names! Shiny!

She'd probably be all over the place on music. Kaylee seems like the kind of girl who'd listen to a type of music depending on what mood she's in. You know how when you're in the right mood for a certain kind of music, you can feel in through your whole body and it kind of takes you away? I bet she loves that.

Her tastes would be eclectic. Very.

I'm thinking she'd listen to some bubblegum pop, but not the stuff that's on the radio now. I'm thinking... she'd like music with good, beautiful voices. But nothing too depressing.

I also think she'd like some classical thrown in there, for the romance of it all.

I think Kaylee would be more of a country gal. But not REAL country like Gillian Welch or June Carter. More along the lines of Nashville pop, or anything you'd hear on your regular country station.

One song in particular sticks out in my mind. Sarah Evans "Suds in the Bucket". The story that's told in the song is pretty much what Kaylee did, so that would be, in my mind, Kaylee's anthem. Also, Shania Twain. She'd probably have Shania Twain on a loop.

I know this is too late for Simon, but I always thought that Coldplay is the music that fits Simon's personality.

Anti-folk is a type of music that is urban NYC folk music. It is amazing. Not that all the artists in the genre sound alike, but the mentality and community are there.

Oh yes! I've thought that before too!!! The song "The Scientist" especially. Nice Simon song, for people who like Simon/Kaylee.

The Shins always remind me of Firefly. There's a song, "Saint Simon" (yes, that's the title) that always makes me think of Simon...

What Firefly can do to a person listening to music.
