I live in Western Australia, and I only know two other people who are browncoats... they are the ones who got me into Firefly. There must be many more out there, I know it, and so I want to talk to you all.

Even possibly organise a Shindig sometime!

If you use MSN, just add me:

We really are a lazy lot, although I signed up just to reply to your post lol. I'm from Melbourne myself, quite a ways from WA. I only know a few other Browncoats, but I'm very grateful I do because I'd never have heard of Firefly or Serenity if it wasn't for them. Now I'm trying to convert everyone I know.

I'm from Melbourne.

The only browncoats I know around here are the ones I converted myself. And there are a few of those.

But we have to be out there, the DVDs are selling like hotcakes and, last year, with the advance screenings of Serenity, those things sold out in a matter of HOURS.

We're subversive like that.

Yesterday, when I checked, Serenity was the #1 top selling DVD at JB HiFi. Yay us.

It's kinda funny to see so few responses to your original message, miagi. Typical Australians...

And I don't exclude myself I'm afraid. I'm from Hobart and I know there are a few browncoats down here (could not get a single copy of Serenity on the day of release for love nor money, ditto copies of the Serenity VC- sold out constantly) but do you think we've formed a club? No. I think we're all repressed. My husband is the only one who knows that I'm obsessed with this show and likes to keep it that way.

Good on ya anyway. Me, personally prefer the closet- it's nice and cozy in here. But one day it would be nice to go on a trip to the States for a fan convention, see what true fanaticism is all about.

Hey Aussies.....don't know if you guys would count me in this thread considering I'm across the ditch from you guys in 'peter Jackson land' AKA New Zealand... But I am a brown coat....and I feel kind of alone since I'm the only Browncoat I know about in the country so I thought I'd just say hi....

Apropos of nothing, I just thought I'd mention that the Ozzarian Browncoats seem to be a real cool bunch o' folks. I've yet to meet one I didn't like, which is odd because I can usually find all KINDS of things not to like in people.

Though I hesitate to throw my lot in with the Aussies (on no fault of your own - it's a rugby thing ), I'll jump into this crowd. I too am from "Peter Jackson Land." And though we may be Middle-Earth, we are yet to have a Flanvention of any kind, a Joss Whedon visit, a BDH tour...

Grr. Argh.

Though, there is someone down there driving round with a "FIRFLY" number plate, with "SERENITY" labelled underneath. That someone on here?

Whoah. Off topic.

Anyway... g'day mate. We're all browncoats, and in this together.

I think I turned into a browncoat over the weekend. We only watched Firefly on DVD while Serenity was leaving the theatres. We bought the movie the instant it was released here (last week) and watched it Friday night. I then started watching Firefly over again. NOW I WANT MORE!!!!

Sigh. Why do I find these things after corporate America has killed them?

I'm in Adelaide, which is a bit closer, but not by much...

I've been lurking here for a while and have only recently come out. I'm the only browncoat I know in Adelaide, but like the others here, I know there are others out there...we're just very laid back

My family find my obsession hi-larious and I while I don't advertise the colour of my coat at work, I am doing my best to convert more to our cause. One new person at a time

Any of you Melbourne Browncoats get to see Joss Whedon in Melbourne before the BDM? If you can believe it - shame if you don't, cause it's true - I was out of the country and about 500km from the nearest internet access at the time, so I didn't even know til now that he had come. Grr. (I did get back in time to see Serenity at the movies, though).

Oh, yeah - I'm from Melbourne.

I'm an Adelaidian too, though I only just moved here from Mount Gambier (a little country hole). I like going into JBHiFi just to see all the pretty Serenity DVDs and smiling. They were playing it on the tv screens on the 8th and when ... hang on this would be a spoiler... the bad thing happens with the red screen and the sadness...I cried right in the middle of the shop. Damn you Joss!!!

I bought my shiny copy from EzyDVD and got a collectors tin but only noticed the other day that JB sell them with LIMITED EDITION SLIP CASES SIGNED BY JOSS!!! I nearly cried. Does anybody know if they are still available?

They are over here in Melbourne (oh, dear lord, and they're so PRETTY). If you can't find them, you can order them online.

Go here--> http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvds

You'll see that SERENITY is the top selling DVD in JB HiFi right now... and you can see the slip cover. It's just *SO PRETTY*.

I'm from melbourne, brand new browncoat. When I went to Minotaur in the city, the woman who works there said that Serenity/Firefly fans are absolutely rabid, and that she hasn't seen anything like it in all her time through the startrek/buffy/etc phases of sci fi/fantasy. So there must be a stack of us here.

And I tend to agree with the other poster about aussie repression. It's deep in our culture that we don't get excessively passionate about things and hassle people with them. However I have made it my mission to annoy as many people as possible about firefly/serenity now!

Hi guys,

This thread has been done and done over the years but i'll play again anyway :)

I'm from Newcastle and I was the first Australian to ever see Firefly! Really! It was proven in other threads way back when.. I cant really prove it but I did watch Firefly on its very first run in the US so the chances are pretty damn good i'd reckon. Sheesh.. how long has it been.. something like 4 years now. Its painful to see all these newcomers saying lets get more Firefly happening, i've just about given up all hope except possibly for more movies, the timeframe with movies is just so damn painful.

It is good to see lots of people joining the Browncoat ranks but I cant help but wish they all joined the cause back in the beginning..

Pheew.. that turned out to be a bit of a rant didnt it.. Sorry bout that.

Haha, yes, I know what you mean.

All the posts like "right, this is enough - let's actually get a new series". People going through the same pain we all went through...

Perhaps there is some hope, I don't know. It sure seems unlikely though.

We can but hope...

Not our fault really ('tho I feel your pain). Never really aired in Australia, outside of cable this year. No one I know knows about it

Only started watching it when accidentally saw promo for Serenity on Fox (*spits*) Barely any advertising...all word of mouth.

We're doing our bit now. My kids and I rave about it to everyone who'll listen.
