Not sure if such topics are acceptable in the General discussion section.

My question was two tiered. Firstly, what would the majority of you want to see from Joss (were it to happen *fingers crossed*)? Another TV series or a sequel to the movie.

Secondly, taking all into account. What do you think is more likely to happen? I know that all this is going to be pure speculation. I would still like some of you Firefly "vets" to present your opinions on here.

Hopefully this thread wont just disappear to the bottom of the list... I will avoid spamming it or bumping it.

I would prefer the show to come back. That would be the most shiny thing that could happen.

I BELIEVE we will get a movie (or a mini-series or movie on SciFi) before we get a series again.

But I will settle for whatever I get and will work very hard recruiting and buying to make sure SOMETHING comes next! I trust Joss, he will know the best thing to do.

Why pick? How about both?

Okay, okay - against the rules, say you.

I'm thinking that the parallels to Star Trek are too difficult to ignore, so I'm hoping for similar returns for this merry band.

For me I would like to see either of these things happen:

1) just pretend that the movie nevr happened and pick up with a season 2 after Objects in Space

OR

2) pick back up with a season 2 after the BDM
- in this scenario however Wash would have to come back to life (I'm still in denial LOL)

Either of these would be the ideal for me... but I'll take whatever I can get! As long as Serenity keeps flying

I'm with you Drace! I want both. I want the series to pick up right where it left off. I want to see River slowly grow into her kick a## self, and freak out the rest of the crew a liitle bit more. And I love the ackwardness between Simon and Kaylee. Then just as you have said, start season 2 right after the movie, clone Wash somehow, or release a special edition DVD of Serenity with an alternate ending where Wash doesn't die, and even if he were to just come back from no-where (just show up in season 2 like nothing happened), I don't think the fans would mind. (If a laser gun can have a BD 'check battery' signal, than Wash can have never died). And then have a movie after every season!

I would like a long tv series. But that's unlikly for now, here's my list of possibilities:

1. Made for TV movie
2. Made for TV mini-series
3. Small release motion picture (small budget)
4. Something else (itunes, online download etc.)
5. New tv series

I'm not counting the "murchandizin" options here. I think Fox/Joss/Universal might "test the waters" by publishing fanfiction or more graphic novels, heck they might even try action figures.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I'd much *prefer* a full season of the TV show. It just gives you so much more room to explore the characters, delve into each of their stories, and really pulls them all together into a coherent group in a better way than a 2-hour bang-em-up movie can do.

That said, I think the much more likely possibilities are (a) a sequel movie, or (b) a TV miniseries. For roughly the cost of one season of the show, we could have another movie of about the same budget as Serenity, and for probably less than that we could have a miniseries that would "test the waters" to see if this baby has wings. Given a choice between those two, I'd opt for the miniseries in a heartbeat. Serenity was good; I liked it, but I'd much rather have less CGI and more storylines and character develpment. It wasn't the effects that hooked me on Firefly in the first place; it was the characters and their stories!

Any of these would be fine by me, but I think a full-blown series revival is probably the least likely to happen. Doesn't seem too likely that any of the major networks are going to pony up the cash to bring the series back to the small screen, especially considering that it was a "failed" series in most network execs' minds. :(

I say either would be awesome. A continuation of the show would allow for further storytelling and character development than a simple sequel. A second movie would still be very limiting.

If the series were to pick up right where the movie left off, as unfortunate as it is that we will no longer have Wash & Shepard Book with the crew, new characters will be added to the flock.

My vote is for a new series!

Don't forget flashbacks with Wash and Book if the story continues where the movie ends.

I'd prefer the series to come back, but several miniseries would work for me broadcast on TV or direct to DVD.

I loved the movie, but the story plays better as continuing chapters.

Woah woah woah! Quality of films is better? I disagree. I thought the TV show was better. Did the film have bigger badder SFX? Sure, but that didn't make it any better. Characterization suffered, one of the biggest reasons i fell in love with the show. I don't care about budget & SFX. I want to see how the characters interact. I want the witty dialog & the odd looks they give each other & the tensions that ebb & flow & the spin of events that make the crew wonder why they got out of bed that morning, etc.

Cast my vote for a return of Firefly! Even 3 years after Firefly would jump-the-shark, it'd still be the best thing on TV. I'll take a Serenity sequel if that's all we can get. Comics? Bleh, useless. Oh, sorry, "graphic novels"

I think a next series would be great, but think it should be after the movie took place, with maybe flashbacks including Wash and Book. Maybe they'd run into someone who knew Book or Wash before they got on Serenity, and explains things about their past. Maybe even add some new characters, who knows. Probably there will be a second movie, but maybe if we got enough people interested, they'd give us the next series.

Even if they were to bring the show back as a series, it would still be at least a year to two years before we started to see new episodes.

I was really happy with how the series ended and how the movie complimented that and I'm very happy to see that there will be more comic books to continue the story.

I would just like to see the storyline continued. Be that through another movie, a mini-series, or another television series.

I’d say the consensus is that most brown coats would prefer the return of “Firefly the series” as a first run syndication deal with ALL the players brought back to pick it up right after “Objects in Space”. I figure that timeline wise we could get maybe a season or two before the time line caught up with the BDM. That would present for all kinds of opportunities for twists and turns that could be woven into the BDM and then picked up right after the infamous:

“I’m a leaf on the wind”… Kerrrtunnk!!!! Yeah, I was stunned… actually I went WTF!!! I had to re-watch the movie from that point on because even though I was watching it “ I understood but didn’t comprehend” if you know what I mean. Yeah, I’m still in denial. And that after I had already been thinking “ well hell, they didn’t have to do that to Book.”

Hell, But they could even do a season of “Firefly, the early days” or something. I see lots of opportunities for many “Shiney” adventures in the verse.

Don’t get me wrong, the movie was very, very cool, (thank you very much Universal) it just didn’t resonate with me on the same level as the series did. I also wish Greg E had been able to do the BDM score.

And Guys, I believe it really is feasible for it to come back as a series. Why?? Because, if it can be determined to be “economically feasible” and “profitable”, then it’s just a matter of putting all the part together to make them work. Which at this point appears to be the major hurdle.

Anyway, that’s my two cents. Be good

I would love a new series, but it would be wierd without Wash or Book. However, Joss has said that Firefly will probably not make it back to the small screen, and that Serenity will only fly on the big screen again. So...who knows.

It is in my opinion, within the guidelines of what was said, that they should keep Serenity flying on the big screen and finish it out with 2 more movies to complete the trilogy...

But... within the same breath I think that the Universe should be carried on as a TV show... maybe show the aftermath of what Serenity does and see how it affects a new crew... I don't know. And then get Guest Apperences... or something...

I am all for a show, preferably on a network that knows how to properly advertise the jewel that is Firefly.

Another movie would be nice, but I'm a fan of the one hour drama, and feel that the crew of Firefly crammed into two hours just doesn't cut it. I'd rather see how things play out, see what happens with Inara and Mal, with Kaylee and Simon, with River and whatever else she might know, and maybe in her new role within the team... how will Zoe recover from losing Wash? What about Mal's problems with opening up and trusting people?

See, you can't cover all that adequately in a movie! Yes, Serenity hooked me into this show, as I'm sure it's doing for others... but I would love to have a show again. Find someone who can properly advertise this show and put it on at a good time and day of the week! Please! :)

Tough call.

I saw Serenity first. Fell devoutly in love with River Tam (but that story is all air through the engine, as Mal would say, so I won't bore you with that). Then I saw FireFly. So, which one?

Serenity, the sequel? The potential for story line with River and the Alliance is sheer endless.

The series? With the series, when situated properly, to have it continue where Objects in Space cut off, we could get Wash back! It's really hard to picture him not being part of the crew.

Or Serenity, the prequel? Might be really interesting, not to mention: moving -- to see Simon prepare for the big day he breaks out River. Of course, then the entire movie would kinda be about River. But, somehow, I do not think I would necessarily mind. :) The downside of this plotline, of course, would be that we would then not actually get to see River! Oh, my gawd, I can be such an idiot! Okay, let's don't, and say we did. In fact, let's not even say we did. :)

So, I dunno, maybe the series. Or the sequel? Sigh. River Tam needs to be in it, though. And it better be Summer Glau; else I'm walking (and then I'll find a sword to fall on).

I think a series picking up where the movie left off would be very exciting. The story could move forward instead of catching up to the movie, and flashbacks could somehow be used to fill in the gap and move the series forward. Maybe they could do the series after the movie and go back to do a miniseries after the new series runs a while. In any case I would be afraid to take on the events between the series and the movie first because events after the movie would, in my opinion, be able to bring in a wider audience.

I agree, the characters and story and a fresh take on sci-fi w/ the 'verse are what first drew me. Also I thought the special effects in the show were pretty great (along w/ the creative camera work BSG has picked up on). A series would give better story telling opportunities (plus give us more of our BDH's). A sequel to the movie has the potential of a poor response (compaired to the fair response to the BDM), and could ruin future attempts (sorry for the neg. vibes). I could easily see a two or three part mini-series to test the waters, pulling in even more fans.

I don't know if anybodies read the new DVD Review/DVD Monthly magazine - the one with River on the front.
Well it says that Serenity has 2 (two - count 'em) sequels 'lined up', which Whedon will be working on after Wonder Woman (or Super Girl or whatever he's doing next).

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned that, but thought I would just in case.

Seems I with the concensus in this. News of the series starting back up would have me cackling with mad glee as I ran rampant through the streets. With that many characters to focus on (even though we're 2 less now :(... I think a series is still the best fit. Hard to cram everything into two hours without pushing some of the characters to the background.

Still, it was the movie that got me hooked on the 'verse, and I'll take whatever I can get.

I'd be happy with "Simon and River Tam's Dance Party Variety Show" to be honest.

'Course, even if we get five gagillion movies, I'll still be pushing for the series...

In my opinion I hope Firefly or Serenity is not placed into the same scope as Star Trek. Don't get me wrong, they are both S.F. but there is alot in FF that does not appear in any Star Trek or any of the spin offs. Whether its a TV series or Motion Picture again rests with Joss Whedon, his staff and the Executives of either Fox or Universal. Personally, I prefer television, things are changing, we have already seen the cancelation of the West Wing, Monday Night Football aired its last ABC showing, UPN, WB are going away to make room for the WC. eventually the reality shows, prime time crime and how you categorize Lost and Desparate Housewives.. is anyone guess but they too will lose their luster. Movies are judged by 1. ticket sales and 2. DVD sales, why buy when you can rent.. but do rentals count? if I want something I enjoy to return I would hope so. To get this off the ground, and we did, we sent letters voiced our support and wham.. September 2005 aired Serenity on the big screen.. just repeat that again and show the real numbers of the audience to grab sponsorship attention and you have a second chance comeback for a TV series. No matter what is done, the real effort must come from Joss Whedon without him and his staff FF is dead, Serenity came and went. If his interviews are something, hopefully all of us and our support will change that. Times are changing, so are audiences, perhaps this is the time.

I would prefer years of the TV series, but think it more likely that a movie sequel is made (if at all).

Does anyone else have the crazy fear that if another movie (or season) is produced it won't be as good as what we already have? I've had the experience of loving an author/book so much that I go out and read more by that author only to be disappointed by other works that it leaves an emotional scar. At this point, expectations are so high (in regard to quality of show) - and I can't stand to think about Wash not being a part of it...simply said, I'd hate to see something done that wasn't up to the standard.

Well, I would be grateful for whatever I can get: movies, comic books, novels, audio plays or anything. But in the best of all worlds, if I could choose, I too would definitly vote for a new series. It leaves more room for character development and for that comfortable family feeling on the Serenity that I have grown so overly fond of.

It is mean to start something like this and get you all hooked on it (I mean, really, I am emotionally addicted to those people...) and then take it away from you.

So pleeeeassssse! Let it go on!

But it does go on in a way, as long as we stick to it. Even if there is no new canon stuff, there is always the fan base, constantly creative. Keep flying! They can't take the sky from us!
