Question:
Aside from buying the Serenity or Firefly boxset DVD's, is there any other method of direct financial support for a Serenity or Firefly sequel?
If you buy a DVD, a portion of the sales go to the middle men (retail shop, DVD producer, etc).

Is there a way for Firefly fans to directly contribute to Joss Whedon's company to produce a sequel? (bypassing the middle-men)

Example: If 200,000 fans contribute $10 each, that's 2 million bucks right there for a sequel.

I think our efforts might be better spent in convincing the folks who already have the money that there's an actual market for the show in whatever form it takes. In order to make this happen, we need to make a concerted effort that demonstrates a large swath of global support for the resurrection.

There is no mechanism right now for fans to fund a sequel directly. The only way right now is to support the Universal Serenity franchise.

Universal gets a cut from all this stuff.

Serenity movie:

Serenity Dvd-Widescreen
Serenity Dvd-Fullscreen
Serenity VHS-Fullscreen
Serenity UMD Video for PSP (Handheld Sony PSP Game Player)

Books:

Serenity by Keith R.A. DeCandido (novel based on the motion picture screenplay)
Serenity the Official Visual Companion
Serenity the Official Movie Magazine --can still find some hidden on the shelves in Suncoast stores, book stores, Comic book stores.

Music: Serenity soundtrack CD music by David Newman

Comic Books: Serenity 1,2,3 (3 comics - 9 different covers - or the graphic novel )

Serenity T-Shirts at the mall Hot Topic stores.

Serenity My Turn 250169-004 XL
Serenity Logo 272754-004 XL
Serenity Browncoat 211458-004 XL

Serenity Movie Poster --saw two recently at a Suncoast store and you can buy on-line at allposters.com See the links on the home page of www.fireflyfans.net

Serenity Zippo Lighter from Dark Horse Comics
Serenity Ornament (model) from Dark Horse Comics

If you are close enough you can see Serenity in a theater. You might be able to bring Serenity to a theater near you. Got any beer theaters or University or Art theaters?

16th week of Serenity: CA NC OR VA London UK **over 105 days!** Whoo-hoo!

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=16589#232692

I have read that Universal gets $10 or $15 for every DVD sold. If 200,000 fans bought 10 Serenity DVDs, that would be 2 million DVDs and Universal would get 20 million.

The top selling DVD of 2005 sold 17,380,000.00 copies. The tenth top selling DVD sold 6,150,000.00.

If 200,000 fans bought 31 Serenity DVDs that would be 6,150,000.00. 86 for the 17 million figure.

Think that is impossible. Think birthdays! Think charity drives. Think libraries. And I think there are more than 200,000 of us. I read a while ago that Firefly DVD sold 500,000.

espcially think Libraries! People who won't risk the show turning out bad won't fork out the money to buy it, but people will check it out at the Library if they get bored and see it. At the Library my parents work at the Firefly DVD's are constantly being checked out. IF there are a certain amount of check outs, then the Library will say, hey this is a good movie, we should get more. But there are some cations if your going to try and donate to teh Library.

CHECK WITH THE LIBRARIAN FIRST! Ask if your movie will be entered into the computers if you donate it. For California at least, if not in other states, movies and books can only be entered if their in the central computers. So ask the Librarian to make sure your DVD's won't simply be sold again. MAKE SURE THE LIBRARIAN KNOWS YOU WANT PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO VIEW THE DVD. If you do, then she'll know to tell you if it won't be able to be entered in the system. Remember most people donate videos and books to the library because they don't want them anymore. Make sure the Librariens know this is a different case entirely.

Thanks.
Bowie.

If you play Nationstates.net check out the region Firefly.

Those are a lot of resources to purchase from but maybe the more important ones should be purchased. If Universal is in charge and owns Firefly and Serenity, then they would want to look at the numbers that directly affect them and give them the biggest money amount, which is probably the movie and the books, the materials that keep the story going. People want the story to continue and Universal is looking for where the actual money is going, which we all know, but they probably don't care if a poster makes money or the lighters make money. Some of that merchandise goes to Dark Horse and Joss Whedon I know and they need money as well to help the story along so I am grateful for their merchandise but they can't get the okay unless Universal gives it to them.

Twentieth Century Fox owns Firefly. Universal owns Serenity. I agree the Serenity DVD is most important. And the idea of buying things that continue the story is real good. I am sure Universal gets a cut of everything that legally has these magic words on it "Serenity c Universal Studios, Licensd by Universal Studios Licensing".

I would hope Universal would have a computer database that adds up their cut. US Box Office. International Box Office. DVD sales. DVD rentals. Merchandise. And all the costs. And eventually, Serenity will be out of the red.

I think Dark Horse comics realized with the sale of the Serenity comic, that there was a untapped market there. Or it could just be that someone at Dark Horse wanted a Serenity Zippo lighter and Serenity "model" ornament bad enough to find someone to make it. And remember, Joss has said there will be more Dark Horse Serenity comics.

What do you think about all of us on one day go out and buy one (1) Serenity dvd each. You can either keep it or give it away. We all pick a day that means something to us or to Serenity or Firefly and pick it. Everyone and I mean everyone, go to the store or order online on that specific day and purchase one copy of Serenity. If you want to go ahead and order more. Also firefly is a good catch too also. Perhaps the date that Firefly aired on television. I'm not entirely sure when that was, but I'm sure most of you do.

The problem is I would rather people see firefly first before Serenity. Thats if you plan to give it away.

I think that's a great idea. If someone didn't want to keep it or give it to a friend they could donate the copy to their library or send it to the entertainment desk of their local paper. Unification Day would have a certain irony to it wouldn't it? (though I don't know what actual date that would be)

Of course you will now get people saying to save that money to finance a fan funded dvd subscription model...

In order to get Firefly back on the air....has anyone considered acts of terrorism?

1. Train 100 rabid Firefly fans with nothing to lose, at a hidden, volcano base in the Pacific for a whole year.

2. Kidnap the families of some of the Fox's executives, lock them in a room and force them to eat Top Ramen, and watch reruns of Gilligan's Island 24/7.

3. Demonstrate that we are serious about wanting Firefly back by having one of the FOX executives, defiled sexually by a genetically altered rhino on live TV, and then make our demands to the remaining FOX's executives. Let them know that the same evil shall befall their families if we don't get FF back.

4. Give them 1 month to get Firefly back on the air, AND write a belivable story that would enable Wash to return.

I think THAT would do it.

If someone could find out the date and if there was somehow we could set up a poll of member that think it a good idea without creating 1000's of threads but to keep it contained. It might just work.

I'd say that today would be a good day to go out and buy more Serenity, although it's probably a little to late to bring in all the troops. But here's why! Serenity was #9 on the DVD sales charts last week. That means (unfortunately!) there's a good chance we will no longer be on the Top 10 sales charts next week. I really believe (and I'm sure others do too!) that the longer we stay on the Top Ten then the more attention Serenity will recieve from folks who haven't heard of it yet and of course from Universal! Thank I'll go buy a copy now! lol!

Just out of curuiousity, does anyone know if browncoatsriseagain.com is actually connected to Joss?

A WHOIS lookup of the site shows that all contact information is for an Andrew Shultz <kandrewnet@yahoo.com>.

If I'm gonna do this, I want to make sure it's going to the right cause.

This is not the right cause. This is "Save Enterprise" all over again.

Well, since I wasn't involved in "Save Enterprise", could you elaborate?
