Okay, so I finally got my W-2's and I figured I'd treat myself with some of my forthcoming tax refund. I had some errands to run anyways, so I figured I'd stop by Best Buy and pick up the Firefly and Serenity DVD's.

Now, I work nights, which means my sleep schedule is all messed up. Usually I stay up until about 2pm, and sleep until work at 10:00. Trouble is: the stores don't open until 10:00am anyways, which usually means by the time I get my shopping done it's almost bed time. I figured I'd go the extra mile and take a nap right after work so that I could actually watch an episode or two, take another nap and then make it to work in time. The point is this: I went the extra mile to change my sleep schedule just so I could catch some Firefly today instead of waiting until the next day.

Everything goes fine at the store: I like shopping in the early hours when no one else is up since the crowds are usually small, and the sales people are too tired to bug me too much. So... pick up both DVD's and head home, and look forward to at least watching disk one before sleep time.

But... I get home, open the box set, get a pint of Haagen Daas out of the fridge, and look for disk one...

But there is no disk one!!! There's disks 2, 3, and 4... but not the first one??? I check my room: maybe it had fallen out. Nope. No luck. So... I get dressed again, and head BACK out to Best Buy, to try to get a COMPLETE complete series Firefly DVD. (Luckily it was the first disk that was missing, or I might not have noticed until later on.)

Luckily they were real nice at the store, and didn't think I was trying to scam them. They go and check the shelves, and turns out that two more of the box sets were missing disks! Fate finally smiles on me however, as there is one last copy in stock that has all the disks.

So... go back home, pop disk one in the tray, and now I am finally a happy man once again. At least got to watch Serenity part one and two from the first disk, which I'd never caught when it was on the air.

Moral of the story: make sure all the disks are actually there in the box set!

(Oh, and near the end when the reavers are coming, and the federal agent has River hostage, and Mal shows up and... solves the situation? Comedy GENIUS!)

EMBERS

last year, when I was buying many sets of Firefly to send to friends and family, I put a set I bought for me in...and discovered that I had two disk 3!!

I had one, two, three and three....
luckily Amazon didn't give me a hard time, they sent out a replacement before I could mail that bad set back to them.

Luckily none of my gift sets were bad! But I've always checked carefully since then, because there is nothing as disappointing as missing a disc of the Firefly DVDs.....

except maybe for having your gorram show canceled,
and having the movie get poor box office,
and having to wait forever for a sequel....
