I was reading up on some trivia on IMDB about the show and I noticed this in the trivia. If you haven't seen the episode of Trash yet because you are new to the 'verse, then this would spoil it for ya perhaps.

SPOILER: In the episode "Trash" when Saffron looks out the window of her husband's estate , Jubal Early's ship can be seen flying past (he had been following Serentiy since Ariel.)

actually, if you listen to the commentary, joss says that early knew something about book just by listening in on them "so intuitive as to be nearly psycic" was the term he used.

early knew that book couldn't be a shepard by the way he acted and spoke.
