Hey, all: Old member (2002!) of the site, but I mostly lurk these days. But I know there are Utahns out there, so I figured I'd extend this invite:

Here's how it is: Message boards and the like are wonderful, but I'm missing the ongoing storytelling that makes the verse all manner of captivating. I'm putting together a crew for a weekly RPG session in the Salt Lake area, and I still need a few more players. RPG knowledge doesn't matter a tic. If you're the type who can spin a yarn makes ordinary folk get all starry-eyed, don't much else matter -- you're the right fit for this type of work. You bring the humanity, and I'll help with the rules of the 'verse.

If you're interested, nearby and think you're up to a weekly session, drop me an e-mail at joshawtry ((at)) yahoo dot com.

And, of course, if you've got questions, go ahead and holler.

I'm a Salt Lake City resident and this sounds fun, but I don't know if I could make it EVERY week. What exactly does this entail? You can email me some more info at alliemmoyes@yahoo.com, or you can just respond to this link and I'll get a notification. Thanks!
Mattie

Wacky fun!

Mattie,

Thanks for being interested! With the right type of folk, a Serenity/Firefly RPG could be all manner of engaging.

As far as all it entails, schedule-wise: I don't know yet. I'm still assembling a crew and figuring out the details. I'm trying to keep the group size to no larger than 6. Once I get a list of names together, we can all exchange addresses and figure out how to get half a dozen busy people in the same place at the same time!

I'm guessing it'll end up being a weekday evening, but we'll have to wait and see.

In the mean time, whether you stick with it or not, you may want to brainstorm what sort of character in the 'verse you'd like to be. Character creating, times and the like will all come once we get a crew together.

More details will follow! If you have questions, post 'em here....

I have a question,
Are you a smelly underage varmint living
in your parent's basement? (lol j/k)!
Now for the real questions:
Will there be drinking? Song-singing? Smoking?
Do you enforce LDS standards (eeeeek!)?
Will there be muscles? Sex? Humor and Thuggery?
Arm-wrestling? Games of Twister? Shirt removals?

I take it you plan to create characters from
scratch? Seems like with only 6 people, we could
emulate the crew of Serenity, no? Our own "original"
characters might be fun though.
How is your idea of an RPG different from a LARP
(Live-Action Role Playing)?
Are you planning to use the retail RPG game? Would we dress and act the parts, or would the action
be mainly cerebral? Would we act out scripts? I am
a newb to RPG's since I stopped playing D&D when I
was 12-ish -can you tell? ;]
One fun game might be where we watch a given
episode with no sound, and each play the speaking part of a character on screen (and do a tequila shooter for each line we screw up)! Actually, booze is not my preferred poison. Anyhoo-
I live by Liberty Park.

P.S. Juggernaut,
Do you remember Searcher and Stallion?
You have no info posted in your profile so
I can't tell how old ya are. Anyway, the
Galactic Mega Empire is making a comeback!!!

I know - I freaked out too ;]

Stdoubt,

Good questions. I'll lay them out:

I'm not an underage varmint in my parents' basement, although I suppose smelly is always up for debate. I'm 30 (which, depending on your view, could be more pathetic than 16), and am a media guy in the Salt Lake area (my ethics agreement says I can't blather on more about my workplace online).

My guess is that there's going to be a mix of LDS and non-LDS people in the game (and, no, I won't enforce those standards). There will be plenty of in-game drinkin', cussin', sex and brawlin'. As far as drinking around the game table -- I'm a hard person to offend, but there are a lot of people in this area that might be uncomfortable about it. In the end, I'll probably leave it up to a consensus.

LARP vs. RPG? Honestly, LARPs tend to creep me out a bit. I envision a group of people around a table playing Serenity-esque characters, probably not dressing like them, but definitely trying to pick up the unique patois of speech that makes the 'verse so cool. I'd guide the groups basic, overarching storyline, but there's no script reading involved. Players will have deep backstories for their characters and role play on the fly.

SCOHO

Hi STDOUBT

This is Scott from S&S. I did a vanity google search and found your post. I thought I'd say hello.

Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to myself, so its nice to get feedback from listeners.

On Sunday Jan 15, I aired all of Ep 1 of the new story. I'll invite you to visit S&S.com and sign up for the mailing list. Next week we're making the episode available for download to list members.

Also, I felt like the firefly univers was a rip-off of the S&S universe, until I realized that the chance of JW even knowing I existed was pretty remote.

Scott!
Wow -worlds collide!
So glad to hear about the download.
It would be great if S&S could gain a wider
audience. IMO it has the makings of a cult classic.
(Heck -for me it already is)
Rather than gush here, I think I'll go start an
S&S thread. Thanks for saying hello!
I'll be listening ;]
