I think it's The Train Job, I'm pretty sure I can come up with a scene where she talks in all the other eps.

Ok A question in case I'm right.

Is it Our Mrs. Reynolds?

And Jayne calls Wasn "Little man" In Objects in Space (You wanna go, little man?) and in Bushwacked, when they're playing Spaceball.

As for the animal in Serenity, if you're talking about the Pilot episode, there are horses and chickens at least. If you're talking about the movie, there's an inguana/lizard-looking thing. (I know because I looked for it after seeing the "Animal Wrangler" in the credits )

dianaspr out of curosity, when does she speak in Train Job?

Here's what I've come up with trying to remember eps where River speaks.

In Serenity(the pilot) she screams and says "Simon"

Bushwacked : she screams a lot and tells Simon they're coming back as he leading her to the gally where the reaver is.

Shindig: "Sad little king of a sad little hill."

Safe: Talks to the cows, the teacher, Sioman, Mal

Jaynestown: "His brains are in terrible danger!"

Out of Gas "Day is a vestigial mode of time measurment . . ."

Ariel "Copper for a Kiss"

War Stories: "No power in the verse. . ."

Trash : "Also, I can Kill you with my brain."

The Message "My food is problematic."

Heart of Gold: "I wonder who's in there."

Objects in Space: "Serenity is not happy Early"

so that leaves Our Mrs. Reynolds where River dosen't talk.

Jayne calls Wash "little man" in Train Job when he wants to go to the rendezvous without the Captain and Zoe: "And these are stone killers, little man. They ain't cuddly like me."

And wow, I totally never noticed that River doesn't talk in Our Mrs. Reynolds. That's nuts!

And: You wanna go, little man?
Wash: Only if it has candlelight...

So I was way off on that one. Cooooool!

A+, soapboxer. For your question:

"No it ain't. Ain't nothin' wrong with you grav boot. I seen the problem plain as day when I was down there on my back before..."

The problem is some other part (damn, can't remember!), but Kaylee figures you don't even need it, as it tends to get tacked and gum up the works. So why have one? Just connect the G-line straight into something or other, and it works like a dream.

She fixed it (wasn't really broke).

Here's one:

Back to River not speaking in "Our Mrs. Reynolds", she did have a scene but it was cut. If you haven't "scene" it, watch it - very, very funny because she is "in the family way".

Ah, yes, the couple-thing! I heard "rate couple," but "reg couple" is plausible as well. Anybody know offhand what the script says?

As far as I can tell, there was exactly one East Asian actor with a speaking part in the series (as noted, in Heart of Gold) and exactly one in the movie (one of the assistants in the lab scene, who had one or two lines).

As hard as it is for Asian actors to find good roles in Hollywood, I find this to be a pretty serious failing of our beloved 'Verse. But anyway!

Yeah, that cut scene in Our Mrs. Reynolds is hilarious.

Caper, as I understand it, the magistrate was "taking every dollar and leaving five cents."

No idea about the number of federals or the non-screwing-up BDH, although I did find it weird that the alliance soldiers in The Train Job, who are stated to number around 20, are referred to as a "regiment."

I believe that the sign in "Shindig" originally said, "Not responsible for mechanical failure," or something like that.

The only official source I've been able to find regarding Shadow's destruction is in Joss' Memo "A Brief History of the Universe, circa 2507 A.D." found in the Visual Companion. In it he says that five years into the war, Mal's homeplanet was "destroyed."

Sunday, cuz they hit town during Sunday worship, so there wouldn't be any crowds.

And also, to the question of what characters our BDH played on Joss's other shows, Summer played the Prima Ballerina in ep 3.13 of Angel, "Waiting in the Wings".

Throughout the series, how many times do we see Kaylee in a dress? Bonus points for naming the episodes.
