Now is it just me, or has the quality of television slowly spiraling downward over the past few years? I recently saw a commercial for a new reality series call "skating with the starts" or something of the sorts wherein a number of washed up television stars learn to figure skate. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? How can a show like this see the light of day and a show like Firefly get flushed half a season in? There is some sort of grave injustice in the world, and I say that we are the ones that set it right. Although that might sound a tad bit overdramatic, considering that I'm ranting and raving on about a television show, I seriously believe that many others could be as opinionated as myself. Now, fellow Browncoats*, I ask you this, am I the only one that believes this?

*I have, only recently, started calling myself a Browncoat. A friend turned me on to Firefly mid-October, and I was lucky to catch Serenity before it left the theaters. This is this first post that I've actually started. And after I bought a Blue Sun sticker for my freggin' car, I realized that I become the part of some crazy obsession.

I'm with you.

How about 'Skating with Serenity?' Watch River skate, Wash fall on his ass, Simon try to teach Kaylee but wind up cuddling, Mal looking all macho 'til he slams into the side of the rink...

They only have that show b/c that Dancing contest with washed up celebs did good. People are stupid. They'll watch anything that doesn't require them to think (those bastards). They also don't realize that when some form of entertainment works the first time, the creators will try to milk them more out of them money.

I think the good TV gets better, the bad TV gets worse.

Before 1981 (Hill Street Blues) there was almost no incredible drama on television. Now, something comes along every year or so. True, it's usually cancelled after half a season, but thanks to some networks investing in quality writers, sometimes we get something as good as Sopranos, Deadwood or Veronica Mars.

All I can say is thank goodness for the internet letting me watch good programming without the need for a TV license to pay for the rest of the crap.

OK, my opinion is, reality shows are cheap to make, use no real talent and they make big bucks off it. Real shows, the good ones, require talent, sets and misc other things. Therefore the good shows cost them more money to make and they get less profit. It seems to me like the same people that bitch and moan about people downloading music and video are the ones that couldn't give a rats ass about the talent losing those profits, they just care about themselves.

If you get my drift, that's not the greatest explanation.
