It's gonna happen ain't it? They know the fans want it, and the studio wants our money, so it's a win-win. There has to be a lot more behind-the-scenes stuff they can give to us. I know there were some documentaries on SciFi that i missed. And I know we'd love to see more bloopers. There has to be some Adam Baldwin bloopers. My man Jayne was seriously lacking in the bonus material on the DVD. And all the stuff I've heard about that was cut from the early screenings, some of that was missing as well. I'm assuming they left this stuff out for a special edition. am I right?

Well, the upcoming Region 2 DVD (and other Regions) features additional bonus content and is therefore similar to a special edition. It will be released in the UK at the end of February.

Some people expect this "extended version" to be released in the states as well, but this is just a rumor at this juncture.

I hope they do and put the River Tam Sessions on there in better quality. I want TONS of bonus material.

Mal would kick Han Solo's ass.

It does make sense though:

Let people know there are more features out there.
Tell them what they've already purchased is bottom of the line and the entire world has a better version.

Then tell them they can get the good version.

Honestly I don't know if I would buy a second DVD if I were American. It's a hard decision you'll have to make there (if there will be a second release).

You could also look at it this way:

It's like buying a book and then finding out that a few chapters were simply missing. Later that mistake was fixed but, so sorry, no refund.

Wouldn't you still want those extra chapters?

I will if one comes out, when I will is a different question though.

There are definitely more outtakes that could be added to a Special Edition. Some of them are, shall we say, unsuitable for younger audiences. But not all.

For example, in the gag reel shown at the Flanvention, there was a clip taken as they were shooting the scene near the end, when Mal and Jayne are removing the gun from the top of Serenity. You could see the set: a section of the top of the hull, surrounded by greenscreen. And somehow, Adam (i think) loses his balance and slips down the rounded hull. And for just an instant you find yourself thinking, ohmygod, he's gonna fall off and break his neck... except you suddenly realize there's only a foot or two to fall.

There's also a series of clips of people (cast and crew) being asked who's the biggest screwup in the cast, and all answering "Summer!"... except the last.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ain't about you, Jayne. It's about what they need.
well myself I really want (and would buy)
1. cast commentary
2. River Tam Sessions
3. Universal's taped footage from conventions, the premier, and any interviews etc
Fact is they rushed this DVD out, and there is a lot more they could have included, and personally I wouldn't resent it if they do (maybe in time for NEXT Christmas) come out with a 'Special Edition'
watch the R. Tam Session vids: http://www.hittarivertam.nu/
and buy the 'Serenity' comics published by Dark Horse
I'd buy a Special Edition! In a heartbeat. For all the goodies that are missing from this one. Money talks when we are talking about having a BDS. So, yep, I'll contribute. Think about all the shiny stuff we'll get!
I was shocked at how quickly they got this DVD out and you guys are right: There SHOULD have been more stuff added to it. The River Tam Sessions would've been awesome, as well as an extended gag reel.
DATALESS
I am getting sick of the studios releasing a "special edition" of a film when it's the only version avalable and then relaesing a "extended edition" 6 months later. I'm getting quite annoyed with this (thanks Peter Jackson) but like a complete sap I would so buy an "extened edition" of Serenity. It just feels like they are just toying with us. It seems like they know when they release he "special edition" that they will release the "extened edition". I wish they would just give me the choice right off the bat or ideally give me a disc that has both verisons in it. I will still stand up and be counted in the group that wants more.
In most cases, they do know in advance, and usually are very public about a second edition coming. The Lord of The Ring DVD's all came with a little flyer and coupon for the extended edition, so it wasn't too much of a surprise if you looked.
Sin City, as a more recent example, was another one where they said up-front that the initial release would be followed up by an extended edition.
"Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."
There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.
I think it makes perfect business sense for studios to release multiple versions of films on dvd. There are many people who only care about the film as they saw it in the theater (or would have seen it if they went to the theater anymore), but they also know there are enough people who want the extras for it to be profitable to do both. I think it is the same reason they continue to produce full screen and widescreen versions of the same films. The fact that there are still people stupid enough to buy full screen is best left to another discussion.
Check out the latest on the Australian Version of Serenity. There are exclusive extras and a tin cover for the first 6000 if bought from this retailer. Very shiny indeed!!!
